noiseprisoner
Update- I just disabled SNES in my GameEx config and MAME games are working normally now. It definitely seems to be something with the SNES setup.
tthurman
I'll be the first to admit that I don't currently run this, but can you provide your emulator config? It could prove helpful to those that are familiar with it.
noiseprisoner
I'll be the first to admit that I don't currently run this, but can you provide your emulator config? It could prove helpful to those that are familiar with it.Thanks for the reply. I'm not sure which config you're referring to...is there another config file in GameEx that might be helpful? What's odd is that I used to run the SNES9x emulator in my previous GameEx setup with no issues. If I have time, maybe I'll try installing on another machine to see what happens... The SNES9x emu runs great outside of GameEx btw.
Draco1962
If you go through Setup Wizard to the Emulator Selection page, highlight the emulator, then click the button (White paper with right-pointing arrow). This will generate the emulator config file for posting in reply to this thread.

Draco1962
To be honest I don't run this emulator either, but I am sure someone does that may be able to help.
Draco1962
One thing to try would be to delete all files with cache in the file name and extension. Then reenable the emulator and start GameEx.
nullPointer
I'd give it a shot with clearing the cache files as Draco suggests. The other thing I'd suggest is reinstalling with a fresh download from GameEx.com (your settings will be fine). We've had a couple of weird issues lately where we kept on making troubleshooting suggestions but that were ultimately solved by a simple reinstallation.
DazzleHP
Hi there,I too am not runnning this emu currently, but something is standing out to me in your Emu Config - in the command (highlighted in red):Command=snes9x-x64.exe "[ROMPATH]\[ROMFILE]" -fullscreenThe dash (-) in your executable might be causing problems. You can try rename your snex9x executable excluding the dash, to something like snes9x64.exe for example and then changing your emu command to:Command=snes9x64.exe "[ROMPATH]\[ROMFILE]" -fullscreenI think that for a while now GameEx automatically "double quotes" the entire command which would make this change ineffective - but hey, i like people to have options just in case
RedDog
I use the exact same emulator/executable for my SNES setup and it has been working fine. I can navigate into the menu, select a game, see it's info, and then launch it. Our configurations do not differ by much and when I took the time to set up mine similar to yours, it worked as expected (ie no reloading of screens or 'jumping' to other modules).I do not think it's your SNES setup. I think that the issue just happened to occur there. Try setting Enable/Disable Features > EnableOtherSystems to False. If this 'fixes' the problem, then perhaps we can look closer at why the EnableOtherSystems functionality is doing what it is doing.EDIT: Also, as suggested, do clear the cache for the emulator. No harm can come from it and it does resolve some of the more quirky issues.
noiseprisoner
Thanks for the replies. I failed to mention earlier that I previously cleared the cache files and that did not help. I just set EnableOtherSystems to False as suggested, re-enabled SNES and the same problem(s) occurred, then GameEx crashed suddenly.I think I will try a reinstallation of GameEx over the top of this one next to see if that helps...Thanks again! noiseprisoner
I reinstalled GameEx. The MAME games seem to work normally now but when I go into the SNES section, the same weird behavior occurs. I launched an SNES game, it reloads the game menu, I launch the game again and it launches and plays. When I tried to exit the game, GameEx crashed again. Here's the crash log if that helps: GameEx Support File Data 21:03:11.3 11/25/2015: Opening Configuration File21:03:11.3 11/25/2015: GameEx: Version 14.41: Starting Log21:03:11.3 11/25/2015: Windows 7 Ultimate Service Pack 1 64-bit21:03:11.3 11/25/2015: Aero running21:03:11.3 11/25/2015: Initializing Vista/Windows 7 volume control21:03:11.3 11/25/2015: Getting CPU and RAM info21:03:11.3 11/25/2015: Intel® Core i5-4690K CPU @ 3.50GHz, 16333MB21:03:11.3 11/25/2015: 3.5Ghz - 4 Cores or CPU's21:03:11.3 11/25/2015: Running Randomize()21:03:11.3 11/25/2015: Loading PlugIns21:03:11.3 11/25/2015: Checking for applications to Launch On Startup21:03:11.3 11/25/2015: Setting default net connection limit to 1521:03:11.3 11/25/2015: Running Misc startup tasks21:03:11.3 11/25/2015: Setting Menu types21:03:11.3 11/25/2015: Getting Configuration Values21:03:11.3 11/25/2015: Using Theme: ConfluencePort21:03:11.3 11/25/2015: Checking for alternate Image Directory for Theme: ConfluencePort21:03:11.3 11/25/2015: Launching HideOS.exe21:03:11.3 11/25/2015: Initialising Video/MNG DLL's21:03:11.3 11/25/2015: Hiding Taskbar21:03:11.3 11/25/2015: Is Media Center running?21:03:11.3 11/25/2015: Checking/Creating LCD Registry values21:03:11.3 11/25/2015: Check Media Center Exit/Start Mode21:03:11.3 11/25/2015: Media Center Mode 221:03:11.3 11/25/2015: Video previews on. noiseprisoner
I tried changing GameEx themes as suggested in the crash log, same results.Going to check my video drivers but I'm pretty sure they're current.
noiseprisoner
Hi there,I too am not runnning this emu currently, but something is standing out to me in your Emu Config - in the command (highlighted in red):Command=snes9x-x64.exe "[ROMPATH]\[ROMFILE]" -fullscreenThe dash (-) in your executable might be causing problems. You can try rename your snex9x executable excluding the dash, to something like snes9x64.exe for example and then changing your emu command to:Command=snes9x64.exe "[ROMPATH]\[ROMFILE]" -fullscreenI think that for a while now GameEx automatically "double quotes" the entire command which would make this change ineffective - but hey, i like people to have options just in case Tried this too, no luck
DazzleHP
Just out of interest, have you tried the good old 32bit version instead? I know i've used it in the past with no problems, and to be honest the gains you'll get running the 64bit version won't be noticable to any human. That's the paradox of a good emulator - it will run the best it can to the limitations of older hardware

That's the paradox of a good emulator - it will run the best it can to the limitations of older hardware Good point, I'll have to give that a shot.Unfortunately, my entire PC (the motherboard I believe) totally died tonight so I'm dead in the water until I deal with MSI and their RMA process. I'll report back when I'm up and running again. Ugh...stupid computers. It won't post/boot/nothing. Cleared the CMOS jumper and still nothing. I hate motherboard issues...this thing's only 2 months old too.
tthurman
Just as good a chance this won't do anything as every thing else you've tried, but I've had machines suddenly die like that when it was bad memory, but if it works it beats RMA'ing a MB. I don't know about MSI, but ASUS sends out refurbed MB's under warranty. I once got one with some dudes heat sink back plate still glued to it..... I've got these back posting by pulling the RAM, then CMOS battery for a few minutes. Add once stick back only, replace battery and boot. Repeat for other sticks staying to just a single each time until you find one that works or the bad one...which ever may come first. I had some ASUS motherboards around the P35/P45 era that required this to get running again even though there was nothing wrong with them. They just sort of hung during post after a failed stick of memory.
noiseprisoner
Good point, something like that is a possibility. I'll try everything I can. Doing an rma is usually a long, drawn out nightmare. Thanks for the suggestion! Sent from my LG-H810 using Tapatalk
Draco1962
Be sure to test your PSU. A failing PSU can also cause some weirdness.

I think it's the motherboard
tthurman
BummerHopefully MSI will treat you better than ASUS, and just send you a new board.Good luck man!
RedDog
The joy of troubleshooting a PC that will not post...ah the memories...You sound pretty knowledgeable, but be sure to check your mobo manual on what diagnostics it has for posting. Some use audio beeps to report how far in the post process it has gotten; others use one or more leds. That may provide some useful info at any rate.Good luck with it.
Adultery
My last board was an MSI, had the same issue. Sometimes it would POST, sometimes not. Then it just wouldn't at all. Got a new Gigabyte board in the cab, haven't had an issue since.Probably won't ever buy another MSI based on that one experience. But it's more about how reliable this board has been vs how the MSI pretty much died immediately after the warranty was up.

I usually buy Asus motherboards but this MSI was a good price and also had a decent rebate. Hopefully, the new one works well...we'll see.
