Scooby1
Hey guys,I have many tables now launching smoothly from PinballX and have really been enjoying playing pinball. There are so many great tables and PinballX is awesome. The one table I am having an issue with is ACDC (Stern). This table plays great directly from Visual Pinball, however when I launch it from PinballX, it crashes. This is the only table that does this.I thought maybe it was an issue with how my Stern tables are set up, however I don't have any issues with other Stern tables from PinballX, such as Transformers, X-men and 24.Attached is the crash box that pops up whenever I launch ACDC from PinballX.Any ideas what I can do to fix this? Thanks in advance! Draco1962
Have you tried upgrading to VP 9.9.1? Also, we need to see the log.txt (right after the error) and pinballx.ini files to assist. Thanks!
Scooby1
Thanks Draco. I'll try to get the log and ini posted shortly. As for VP 9.9.1, the ACDC table is a PM5 table and runs great from my VP PM5.exe directly. All of my other PM5 tables run great from the PM5.exe (from PBX as well).Do you think running this table in VP 9.9.1 instead of PM5 will work? Draco1962
Not sure as I do not run that system currently. Have you tried installing a fresh copy of that particular table to see if it may just be a problem with the table you have?
Draco1962
If you search the web for keywords ACDC Stern physmod 5 you will probably find a few threads in the various pinball forums that reference some issues with this table and some recommendations as to what version ROM needs to be used, etc. The issue does not appear to be specific to PinballX from the evidence presented thus far, even if it is working well outside of it. I would think that there would be an issue with all tables if that were the case.
Scooby1
It may not be an issue specific to PBX. When I delete the nvram file for this table, it launches okay...the first time. After that, if I launch it a second time, it crashes.I'll poke around to see if there is a fix for this.Thanks.
Draco1962
Do you have VP running as adminstrator?
Scooby1
I checked and I do have VP running as admin. I've been reading and trying everything others have suggested, but none change my issue with launching this one table from PBX. I have tried new versions (were actually the same as what I had) for the rom, dll, pm5, naming structure, made sure zip file is exactly as others have instructed works.I also now have this table running every time outside of PBX. I even got it to run a couple of successive launches from PBX, but then it crashed again from PBX.I'm convinced it is a conflict with something within PBX (or my settings are conflicting). This table is one of my favorites, but if I can't launch it from PBX, it won't ever get played. That would be a shame because it's such an amazing table. Here are my PBX files and I'm hoping something can be found that I can change. Jannek
Hey Scooby1,if this table runs fine outside PBX, this may be an issue with your available resources (ACDC is very hungry for resources...).You may test if the table runs fine with the "Lite Version" of PBX (you will find it in the same Folder as the regular exe). This won´t help you in total, because the Lite Version does not show BG and DMD in the PBX menu, but maybe this hintpoints you in the direction for a suitable solution.Kind regards,Jannek
Scooby1
Thanks Jannek. I tried the PBX lite version but the ACDC Stern table is still crashing every launch from PBX (regular or lite version). This is the only table that does this. Here are my system specs:AMD A10-7850K Radeon R7 Quad Core 3.70 GhzSapphire Dual-X Radeon R9 280 3GB 384-Bit GDDR5 GPUGigabyte GA-F2A88XM-D3H FM2+/FM2 AMD A88X 6Gb Motherboard120GB SSD (C drive)256GB SSD (D drive)8GB RAMWindows 7From everything I've read, I should have plenty of horse power to run all tables and PBX. Is this correct or do I need more RAM?If this wasn't such a great table, I might just forget about this one. However, it's one of my favorites so I really want to figure this out and launch it from PBX.Any other suggestions? I would greatly appreciate it! Draco1962
Maybe redownload the table? I am at a loss here. Can you provide your log.txt file from right after the table crashes? That is the only file you haven't provided that might provide a clue.

Jannek
Sorry Scooby,I´m out. I like this table as well, but it´s always crashing on my System. So I will have to wait until I get a more powerful PC and will my own tests later on. Therefore I´m not able to give you further hints...Kind regards,Jannek
Draco1962
Was the log.txt right after attempting to launch ACDC?Also, you may want to "google" the following key words "acdc table crashing" and check the two threads that show in the top of your search. I have a feeling that, even though you can get it to run outside of PinballX (although you did not state clearly if you ran it mutliple times back-to-back), I do not think that this is necessarily a PinballX issue. If anyone else has this table running OK via PinballX, please chime in.
Carny_Priest
Yes, AC/DC launches fine from within PBX.
Scooby1
I did grab the log.txt after launching ACDC. It shows both the ACDC table and MM table attempted and one thing I notice in the log is MM shows Exit System Control Pressed (since I pressed the exit table button). The ACDC table shows Exiting, not Exit System Control Pressed (I did not press anything, it just crashes). Is this because VP crashed after launching ACDC or is this a normal log entry? It sounds like this might be the most resource intensive VP table (at least of the tables I have). There is an ACDC non-rom table, that plays great. It's just this amazing Stern version from Javier15 that is giving me so much trouble. Are there settings I should look at to be sure my system has enough resources/horse power to run this table every time? Draco1962
I don't think that your system resources are insufficient. I may be a matter of how this particular table was written.
Ginsonic
Scooby1,I had troubles with that table too. If I remember correctly, I compiled (script) and saved the PM5 table using Visual Pinball (regular EXE, not PM5 !) and then started it again with the correct PM5 VP version.Worth a try ! Scooby1
Thanks Ginsonic. For someone like me who has not done this, how exactly is it done? I open the ACDC stern table with regular VP, open the script, then what do I change in the script before compiling?
Ginsonic
Open table file in "normal" VP.exeOpen script editorNo need to change anything !Select "compile" from menuClose Script editor windowSave File (Ctrl + S)Then close VP.exe and try to start it in VP_PM5 using PinballXIf this does not work, try to repeat the steps above using VP_PM5.exeI once tried some combinations compiling/saving, but I do not exactly remember, which worked finally. But it worked ;-)
Scooby1
Thanks for the suggestion. It could have been this (probably was), as I can now get ACDC Stern to launch from PBX, well, most of the time. The table still seems to have trouble sometimes if I have any other program running in the background. For example, if I have been making changes to PBX and the Game Manager open or a web browser, then this table sometimes crashes on launch. For the most part, it seems to be running more consistently. I still consider this an unpredictable table, as I never know if it's going to launch or crash.Since it's now launching more than it's crashing, I'm going to leave it and see how it does when it gets more play. Thanks for the help! Scooby1
Update: This awesome table now plays every time it's launched from PBX (all other programs need to be closed).
