Hahah I do have 64bit. Thanks for checkin, I feel stupid I can't figure this out, but fortunately I'm not THAT dense! Lol. Usually always ends up being something dumb like that though doesn't it?

PHEW ^_^ Sorry if i seemed patronising there, but stranger things have happened! I've done some silly things in the past and had to publicly facepalm myself :D

It's better to get these things out of the way sooner than later though right? I wish i had a few times :P

No offense intended though katuuuz - apologies if it came across that way.

Oh absolutely not!

This isn't my first mame cab rodeo. I'm no stranger to late-night stupidity hahaha.

Watch I'll get home later and be like, "oh, I'm a fucking idiot, THAT'S what was wrong" haha

Really dazzle, no worries, I appreciate you looking at all angles, and mostly for your time.

Yeah, something went south on you for sure. Perhaps like Dazzle suggested, you had a failed partial compile that hosed it up.

Just re-installed mc64, downloaded build tools via mc64, downloaded a fresh mame0163src, a fresh mingw-64, fresh hi-score0163.txt, renamed to hi-score0163.diff, placed them in the folders mc64 would download them to:

Mingw::::C:\buildtools\mingw

Source Folder::::C:\buildtools\src

Hi-score::::C:\buildtools\patch

Mamesrc::::C:\buildtools\src\mame

Been compiling w no errors for 5:50 so far. Wish me luck.

P.S. How long SHOULD it take? I know when I woke up and it was 7hrs in that wasn't right.. Just so I can abort if need be

It depends on your system really and the options you chose. If you took my my advice (you should have :P) and chose the single thread option it will take longer - an i3 for instance on single thread, depending on system will probably take between 1-2 hours, an i5 slighltly faster and an i7 faster still. But if you use the single thread method it will be slow no matter your CPU.

But for now, speed is not the issue - we just want a successful compile. You may see it freeze on occasion but don't do anything! Normaly it will resume after some time.

If it compiles, using a single thread, you know that was the issue. Many people aren't really sure of what their CPU is capable of, or just assume - using a single thread we can at least determine whether there are other problems halting the compile :)

Dually noted Dazzle. I actually couldn't see that threading option you were referring to unfortunately. Hopefully the clean dls and fresh mc64 do the trick... 40 min in, still rollin

scooorreeeee!!!!

Hell yeah! Thank you so much guys for your help! It must have been bc my files werent fresh, or I also noticed I didn't rename the hi-score to .diff, bc when I downloaded through MC64, it didn't appear to have a file extension..((See Dazzle... STUPID mistake)) my guess is it did, just wasn't displaying in explorer. Didn't even think of it until I went through it again tonight.

Well, on a good note, I'm compiled. Going to test. Will write back.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!

Hi score patch never took :angry:

put it in the patch folder, and then extracted hi-score dat to mame folder and made a new folder called hi... nothing. Just when I thought I had it.

You say you're not using HK's compiler? If you are you need to apply the patch prior to compiling.

adultery what's up! was wondering where everyone from 06 went! Hope things are good! And, you are right my friend, I did not apply the stinking patch in the GUI of Kaze's compiler. Total loser!

I know you were the wizard at the theme editor, that's my next stop once this is sorted out. Thanks for the input, and nice to see ya again friend.

Awesome, we'll take that as a win

Hiscore patch needs a few things to verify. Firstly you need two folders in your base MAME directory - hi, and nvram.

Secondly you need to make sure that hiscore.dat is located in your base MAME directory too.

Get a high score in any popular game and exit. Reload and your score should remain.

PS: yes you should apply the .diff before compile, whether using the compiler or not, plus make the directories i mentioned coz it won't be done for you :)

Ok guys, 12:30 midnight and I've finally got my 0163 hi-score patched working! Zipping it up as we speak and putting it on a back up hard drive safe and sound.

Thank you all for your help.

Next orders of business, epsxe, chankast and theme editor. After that, time to build
