scrolling game list with selected always centered?

Hi there folks!

Although my cabinet supports many emulators, and I bought gamepads to mimic those of nes, snes, n64 and psx... I find myself always going back to arcade games.

They're possibly the games I play 95% of the time spent on my arcade, so I was thinking about creating or choosing a theme that would focus on that. Just arcade, just mame.

So my idea was to focus on a big preview on one side, with the video preview and marquee of the game, and a list of the games on the other side.

It would look better if the selected game would be fixed on the center of the visible list, rather than going down the screen and scroll when it reachs the bottom. I mean, the look I want to get is to look as if you were not moving the selected item, but the "wheel" with the list of games. Don't know if I'm explaining it clear enough?

something like the hyperspin's wheel?

now second thing... as I don't want to lose my other setups just in case I have the mood for nes games ;D

would it be possible to show just the favourites on startup, and pressing back or any other combo go back to the main menu to select all mame games, or console games... and be able to add them to favourites (opening game details) BUT on the favourites menu on startup just click on the game name and launch the game without the game details popping out?

I understand exactly what you mean, but unfortunately it can't be done at present. That's not to say it won't be a feature in the future :)

If i remember correctly, there is an option somewhere that will tell GameEx to remember where you were when you exit, so if you were in Favorites when you exit it will load Favorites when you next boot. I can't confirm this 100% though so i apologise if my info is inaccurate :P

But again you can't have the Favorites act in a different way to the other lists - it's either show info on select or launch on select. Currently you can't choose how each menu behaves individually.

If I'm following you correctly basically the highlighted game would be "locked", in a similar fashion to a header bar in an spreadsheet, and emphasized in a manner that would bring attenion to it. Likewiese that title's preview video (or MAME extra's material) would remain in the preview area while you browse up and down the rest of the games in your library. It would stay this way until such time you clicked another title, which then would become locked in the center.....and so on.

That would be really cool, you should put in a feature request.

Take a look at the Ex Nano theme that Celly submitted a while back. If memory serves me correctly, the list is limted to one item displayed at a time. An example of the display can be found here. It might be a decent source of inspiration.

There was another theme submitted by Chazz based upon the XMBC Confluence theme that had a wheel like list, but the link is dead on his page and he never uploaded it to the Themes section.

The centred selection option is in Evo (along with much more).

Not much help currently I know - but..... ;)

... i will not move any of my lazy fingers to create a theme, until Evolution is released. That high are my hopes and expectations for Evolution.

Not that is impossible to do really nice themes with the current GameEx setup, but in my case, i want less "limitations" ;) .

Oh well, I'll have to wait for echo to fit my project then :) I wanted to click and play on that list as a quick option to play but also keep the option to add games to favorites too, and that option is only possible on the game details, otherwise I couldn't find it...

I'll check that theme for inspiration though :)
