I consistently get this error today all day

Status: Connection established, waiting for welcome message...
Response: 220 Microsoft FTP Service
Command: USER joeyh
Response: 331 Password required
Command: PASS *********
Response: 530 User cannot log in.
Error: Critical error: Could not connect to server

I saw a previous locked post with the same issue, which was apparently resolved. But for love nor money am I able to sign in to the FTP site :(

I havent signed in to the FTP site in over a year and only trying again today for the past couple hours.

I have tried both my username and my email address. Same result.

The password i'm using is indeed the right password

I tried using the IP and the name.

Also tried using port 21 and port 22 (SFTP)

I even tried resetting my password.

It almost seems like my forum account doesnt have access. Is that possible?

If your using Filezilla, make sure your encryption level is set to 'use plain ftp", Circo mentioned newer releases had TLS enabled

You do have your client set to "account" with your user and pass configured in these areas of your client?

If you have any non-standard characters in your password, you might want to consider changing it to see if that's causing the problem.

Since your member level is basic member, you should be able to connect and browse on port 22

I don't think your account could be singled out in such a way that it didn't have ftp access.

Odd, how your password would suddenly be rejected, then work.....then not. If you're using FileZilla, you might want to check this.

Credit to yournerdness from the FZ forums.

CliffNotes:

windows explorer, %appdata%, look for Filezilla, then sitemanager.xml

Hi

I signed up just to create a few posts to hopefully help others experiencing this issue

Problem
--------

->You cannot connect to ANY ftp server via filezilla or any other program
-> You get a 530 incorrect password error after every attempt despite using correct login info

Solution
--------

Go to %AppData%\Filezilla if you're on a PC and double check that the password is correct
Correct it if necessary and try to log in again..

Reason
--------
Bizarrely Encoded / Truncated (an expert on this subject ought to chime in)

So people after 2 days of on/off research I'm glad to have found a solution .. sure its a pain to modify this file each time but it helps a hell of a lot right now and I hope it helps you guys too ..

Could be it's just easier to change your password, and see if that resolves it for you.

Tried both suggestions - Resetting my password and checking the password was entered correctly in the files at %AppData%\Filezilla.

Neither worked :(

Oh well - guess I'll just keep trying. Thanks for the potential fix though.

Seems like newer releases have been prone, or more prone to some issues I'm running 3906 without issue. May want to try an older version.

Any possibility of getting this fixed today :)

I was actually able to connect one time about 5 minutes ago - now same error again every time

Reason i ask is its weekend - need to download the remaining files today so i can start updating my cabinet all weekend - wont have a stable internet connection this weekend to download the remainder from home

Please B)

UPDATE : Managed to login again - downloading now. Not sure if the issue is an intermittent one or the problem was isolated and fixed. Thanks
