[RESOLVED] Pinballx Displaying Playfield In Small Window on my Cab

I don't really know what the issue could be and unless I can duplicate it, its tough to help. I am just trying to help you troubleshoot. I don't know what app/driver etc is causing the issue though.

I've helped a lot of people with setting up their cabs and usually when something this strange is happening it's a setting in windows or something in registry a windows reinstall would more then likely fix it or have your monitors recognized by windows correctly 1-2-3 playfield-backglass-dmd.

I think the monitor config would depend on what ports you have them plugged into. Not sure if you can change that without switching the plugs which would mean using a lower quality connection for the playfield. I will need to google to see if it's possible to change the numbers around without switching the cables.

from a quick google search, it appears you can't just make each display the number you want. it comes from whatever port they are plugged in. my playfield is correctly set to 1. the backglass and dmd work fine so I don't think this is a display orientation thing since it works fine from VP. and it did work previously so it remains a mystery as to what changed. The only thing I can think of that would have changed was running the setdmd utility against all my roms but that only affects the dmd as far as I know.

still working on getting things running on the other drive getting pinmame error. probably need to update the pinmame version. will report back once I have it working and if it still shows the same display issue

Was the other drive you mention a clone of the one with the issue or a fresh install of the OS?

well, the drive I have been using as my main drive is a solid state drive and was actually a clone of the 2tb HD drive. But keep in mind that this was all working fine for the longest time. So whatever triggered this behavior is on the SSD drive, not the other drive. I'm going to just focus on trying to fix the SSD b/c I'm having multiple issues on the other drive. Not as stable and won't connect to internet etc etc so it seems like it will be more work than just sticking to the SSD for now. Once I finish getting all my DMD screens postioned, I'm going to pull the pc from the cab and connect back upstairs to see if the issue continues on the pc monitor. I have a bunch of BG videos to redo and it will be much easier to do it upstairs vs on this cab.

Just so it's clear, this is not resolved. Still have the small display in playfield. Just not working on that right now. will revisit when I have other setup done

Since you don't have a reinstallation disc, have you ran system file checker, fix-it, restore point, or anything of the sort to attempt to repair something corrupted in the OS or otherwise by chance? You seem to be faced with an uphill battle with a problem that is seemingly unprecedented, or at least one that nobody else has posted about.

You ready for this one? So I moved my pc back upstairs and connected the orig monitor that I was using for playfield. At first, it appeared to still be an issue. Then I played a table via the editor and noticed it still displayed in the small window unlike previously when it was displaying correctly when played from the editor. So I checked the video options and for some strange reason it switch to a smaller size. So I switched it back to windowed full screen and now it works correctly in both the editor and pinballx. I had checked and double checked when it was connected to the cab and confirmed it had been set to fullscreen. Perhaps it for some reason was showing that setting but behind the scenes it was really the smaller display? Who knows? Hoping that moving to the pc monitor display triggered it to correct itself. Will be interesting to see if the issue surfaces again when I eventually move it back to the cab. Thanks all for your input on this rather bizarre issue. We shall see what happens.

OMG After days of searching and testing I found the solution:-)

I had the same problem as above.

In the compatibility menue (windows) for the pinballx.exe file there is an option / checkbox "Disable display scaling on high DPI settings" .
Uncheck this option and the playfield screen will go to fullscreen again.
I don't know why the option was turned on and by who.

FWIW, I just spent the afternoon fighting this issue. I realized, after careful inspection, that I had pointed pinballX at the wrong executable for visual pinball. I had accidentally pointed it at the visual pinball.9.2.1.exe that was the compressed download file for the visual pinball install file(s). After fixing this, I immediately got the proper screen size while playing an actual table.

Lesson learned: Much frustration from user error during configuration.

Pay attention to detail.

Thank you for a nice front end and helpful forum!
