[RESOLVED] Exiting Visual Pinball back to PinballX

This must be a pre-noobie question. I can not get Visual Pinball to quit without getting the pause menu first (that has the options - Resume Game, Debug Window, and Quit to Editor). I then have to click 'Quit to Editor' which takes me back to Visual Pinball, which I then have to quit as well. I see lots of forum posts about getting everything else to work properly, but I can't get this basic function working. Can someone tell me what the basic setup is? What files do I need, where do they need to go, what settings need to be, etc.? And, sample files (if needed), where they go, etc.? And if changes are needed to settings file somewhere, exactly where I can find that file? I hate to ask such stupid questions, but I have been struggling with this for a long time now. I had it working on a previous PC, but since I upgraded I can't get this to work. I am running Windows 8.

Thanks in advance.

What key have you mapped to escape/quit VP?

Check this thread and see if it helps!

Sounds like you may have a case of the same key performing a different function, one in VP, while a completely different one in PBX.

If this doesn't help, it will most likely be beneficial if you provide some info for others to review to assist you in your troubleshooting.

See this thread for more info.

Thanks for that direction, Shuwatch! I checked the link, and that did help. I am using an X-Arcade controller and I also have a keyboard attached (maybe someday I'll build or buy a proper cabinet, but for now a keyboard is acceptable).

The problem was that I was not running PinballX in Administrator mode. I missed this detail when I set up my new PC. Now that I know the problem, I can see that many people have troubles related to Compatibility mode and with Administrator mode of the various software.

If it is in the setup guide, then I missed it. Not to nitpick, but this should be excruciatingly clear in the setup guide since it is such a common problem. Bold text, red letters, a checklist, etc.

Now that I have PinballX working, I can't imagine going back to Hyperpin. This is SO much easier!

As a general rule, most any application since Vista that requires frequent changes or updates should be run as administrator. Just the nature of the Windows beast. Glad you got it sorted!
