I have been using an oder Mame32 .122 from years ago on XP and had about 7,350 roms and about 3,100 playable and decided to upgrade to Mame64 .157b on a newer computer and now have 29,500 roms and only about 2,400 are able to be displayed and played in GameEx. What am I missing or doing wrong? Thanks for any help

In the configuration wizard under advance mame settings set verify roms to no

Also, if you enable the game filter, some Japan titles you may want get filtered as well.

Once you've made these changes be sure to update.

If you need more help please see here.

I tried everything you listed and linked and now at exactly 3,100 games. Shouldnt there be alot more that that when there is 29,527 roms in the directory? Is there a Dat file or ini file I dont have or not configured to point to or something? Running out of ideas

Keep in mind that a lot of those 29K-plus ROMs are from mechanical games as well and will not function. GameEx automatically filters those out if you are using integrated MAME support.

Yes, but this is almost always a filtering issue in the advance mame settings

You mention you're running 0.157b, but are you also running 0.157 romset or still on the old 0.122?

Without the support files listed in the "How to ask for help" thread it's really just a guessing game.

sounds legit to me... I have 4001 games in MAMEUIFX 0157, with a full romset and all working CHDs. I just filtered clones, non-working and mechanical. considering you use a 0156 romset with 0157 MAME and no CHDs, I would say, thats what you get out of it. In your case, I would rather use a 0156 MAME to matchup with your romset, then to use a 0157 MAME. I am sure, you will get some more games, maybe not much more, but with 100% compatibility ;) . Also I am sure, you have a split-set romset (being able to generate any parent or clone) and its normal that you have 29.000 roms, I have them too :D .

Thanks for all the help everyone. Guess I will just have to wait on getting the rest working down the road when they are updated unless someone else can get more to work somehow.

I have to stress this more often than i should really, but your mame.exe should match your romset exactly. Also so should your supporting files such as mameinfo.dat, history.dat etc.

You can get around 6k good rom list using the advice linked by tthurman, which includes clones, around 2.5k if you disable clones :)

You're not the first to get hung up on the fact that there are 29k+ roms in the full set, but you need to know that 70% of them are useless. They are either mechanical, non working pinball/slot machines or just plain nonsense that you wouldn't want on your list. Like casino/mahjong etc ;)
