Today marks the launch of one of many reforms to our Hi-Score Comp over the coming weeks and we start with our new Leaderboard. After much debate we have decided to alter the point system on our overall leaderboard. The reasoning behind this change is that we felt things were too "static" with our current system, and wanted things to be more "lively". With our new system, the top tiered players will be less secure in their positions, and the bottom players will have a much better chance in ranking up!

Let me explain...
At the moment lets say player 1 gets 1st place on ONE game then never plays any games again. They get 100 points. Now player 2 is far less skilled than player 1 and ALWAYS ends up in 10th position (1 point). With the original setup player 2 would need to play 100 games to score the same points as player 1! That's a harsh requirement don't you think?

With the new system, rankings will be much more dynamic:

Position 1 - 100
Position 2 - 90
Position 3 - 80
Position 4 - 70
Position 5 - 60
Position 6 - 50
Position 7 - 40
Position 8 - 30
Position 9 - 20
Position 10 - 10

This means that player 2 will now only need to play 10 games instead of 100 to match player 1's LB points - a major improvement! This will also have the effect of the LB constantly changing (shuffling) making it more exciting. It will also have the added bonus that no one will feel safe just posting a few 1st place scores then leaving - because a dedicated lower scorer could easily acquire the same LB points, if not more than someone who only posts a few top scores.

This does however mean that some of you may be in a different position as a result of these changes - but it should be easier now to get some points back if you post them scores!

Here's a comparison so you can see if it affects you (original on the left, new on the right):

We hope you understand the reasoning behind this change, and embrace it.

Thanks, as always for participating,

Translation: They changed the scoring matrix on the overall leaderboard to keep it fair for everyone since it wasn't fair before. ;)

@ Yung-Jedi > like Adultery said we want to create a more fair Leaderboard. That's why we have chosen to use a new scoring matrix.

Our competition is most enjoyed with active participation. Everybody is more than welcome to join our competition - both regular and elite players !

However...a member who is actively playing several games in our competition shouldn't be confronted with a major gap in points compared to an elite player who submits just a few scores. Eventually the best players will populate the top of our Leaderboard and that's totally fine of course. This shouldn't be possible though by just playing a few games. We think active participation should be rewarded. That's what our competition is all about...playing games and having fun trying to improve your best score and enjoy a friendly competition with your online hi-score friends :)

I hope the example below visualizes the result of a more fair Leaderboard - where members are motivated to actively participate at our competition :

FYI.. this is part of a much larger "update" to our competition, which will be coming down the pipes later. We're still working on the details and such and don't want to get ahead of ourselves. This was a good first choice option to get things moving more smoothly to where we want to take things. Keep watching!

I think it is fair to sum it up this way. If your intent is to run up some insane scores then leave, your leaderboard ranking will not have the staying power of someone that regularly contributes/participates in the various comps offered. There are other sites for that.

Wow. I think this is a great improvement. It rewards the players that actively participate. It also forces the elite players to work a little harder, which IMO, is a good thing as well. Wonderful job by the think tanks!!

High Score Comp is having an Evolution of it's own :D

I think it's great the HS Team is actively on top of the competitions, and continues to advance the competitive nature here. Thanks for all effort and hard work you put into making all this happen.

My bad! i should have used "position" instead of "player" in the points table ^_^ i'm not even sure how i made that mistake to be honest lol. I've updated the OP to make it clearer and less confusing :)
