i thought pinball x was causing my issues(and maybe it is some) but i am running latest daily build of VP and just been having nothing but issues running tables through front end! tried different versions of pinballx but nothing fixed it. THEN i tried downgrading VP to 628 and tables now work that wouldnt!

So how many of you having these strange problems are running higher than 628?

Posted

Have you seen any reports on the VP forums regarding similar issues with the latest VP daily builds when run through other front ends?

Posted

not that i recall. But i dont pay attention to it either. I know some people have been having strange issues with some newer night mod tables but think it was a region setting causing stutter? but most people have upped to daily builds due to new tables needing it. so far so good on my system since downgrading, so it has something to do with it no idea if its a pinballx issue or not?

I am also downloading the new daily builds of vpinball.exe and I have been noticing strange issues when running Visual Pinball through the PinballX Frontend. I'm currently at build 709. I just downloaded a night mod of Tales of the Arabian nights. Works fine in visual pinball, however when I launch it through the frontend I'm getting a script error and also now the credit button does not work. Launching the table without the front end does not cause these issues.

I'll list out what I have and my experiences. I'm currently running:

Win7 64 bit w/ Nvidia GTX 660 (driver v311.06)

PinDMD v2

Virtuapin plunger/controller

Zebs VOB for contactors/strobe/shaker/gear/5 RGB lights

VP 9.16 rev 709

PBX 1.68

DOF R1 V0.6.5052.22548

B2S Backglass Server 1.3.0.1

I have a mix of 42 FP/136 VP/36 PBFX2 tables (and a few FP BAM tables just for testing). 70% of the tables have .f4v backgrounds and .f4v table videos with sound/music.

Around the rev 680-690 mark I did download a VP rev that crashed VP every time when loading another table (first one loaded fine). I just went back to an older rev and it was fixed within a day.

I have had zero issues entering/exiting tables via PBX, I do get the occasional "PBX has stopped working" crash message in 167 and very few times in 165 (which is what I was running until yesterday) only when moving around the wheel. I'm running PBX 1.68 now, so we'll see how it goes.

I just played a game of TOTAN night through PBX and had no issues. (Totan Night file size 31,264,768) (This is the 1.0 Aaron James Mod)

I know this goes without saying, but every time I add a new table I play the very first game through VP in order to setup the B2S, sounds, etc. Every so often, I get a win7 message asking if I want to run this program, because I just copied over the new vpinball.exe or B2S server .exe. This is because I'm always updating to the newest versions.....now there have been times I forgot to run a table outside PBX......and it has halted PBX in it's tracks........this is not a PBX issue...just me forgetting to allow the .exe.

Also, make sure all your .dll's related to VP/DOF/B2S are unblocked if using win7.

Not sure if this helps, but if there are certain tables you have issues with let me know and I'll load them up and see if I can reproduce the same issue. I usually ONLY add the directb2s controller line and Enable the plunger timer (most newer tables have these already)

Have tried this and for me at least it doesn't seem to make a jot of difference. I suspect that it may be a problem with table and backglass videos in conjunction with codecs.

Apologize for not including my configuration in my initial post:

Win7 32 bit

vpinmame

Virtuapin plunger/controller

VP 9.16 rev 709

PBX 1.68

B2S Backglass Server 1.3.0.1

I'm not sure what "DOF R1 V0.6.5052.22548" that you reference in your build.

Also you mention "make sure all your .dll's related to VP/DOF/B2S are unblocked if using win7"

Is there an installation document that guides though a proper Win7 install?

Thank you.

fmetz,

What is the script error you get in TOTAN?

DOF = Direct Output Framework - It is mostly used with the LEDWiz hardware.

Unfortunately, I'm not sure if there is a complete UP TO DATE guide for any install. The problem is (IMO) 1)This hobby is growing faster then a guide can be written and 2) There are so many different configurations (OS's, cab, desktop, etc.)

Make sure your pinballx.exe and vpinball.exe are set to run as admin. Make sure if you are using the B2S backglass server (under your tables dir) that both .dll's are unblocked.

I've seen similar stuff, but I always attributed it to vp, and not Pinball X. But I did have a couple that only worked in the editor. Then I found (or something changed) incorrect names. I haven't had time to revisit it, but after seeing this I will when I can.

Ones that don't work for me are:

Monster Bash
Judge Dredd
Tommy
Viper
Twilight Zone

But I think these don't work in the editor either. I'll have to check. But I have seen this before.

My setup:

I-5 (oc'ed to 3.9 ghz)

16gb Patriot ram

GTX 280 Card

650w p/s

NO Ledwiz, Dop or any frills. I'm old school.

My cab runs from remote and uses my desktop on my desk. I extend screens to run the cab, and duplicate to work.

well I would agree its a vp issue as older 628 version works fine. but if I run tables from vp direct with newest build they also work fine just not in pinball... strange stuff

I have similar issues. E.g. coin in is not working, only if launched with pinX. DIrectly started from VP it works

Zeenon posted this to me regarding unblocking DLL's: " Make sure if you are using the B2S backglass server (under your tables dir) that both .dll's are unblocked."

I am not familiar with unblocking a .DLL. Could you please elaborate on what this means? I do have both vpinball.exe as well as PinballX.exe set to run as administrator.

I am still getting the odd issue where the credit/coin button is not working on the latest TOTAN night mod from within PinballX runing VPinball.exe 709 release.

Posted

OK...I just figured out the unblocking of .DLL's. Apparently the "unblock" button does not appear in the .DLL properties if you do not need to unblock. I did not have the "unblock" button so this was why I was confused. I also tried running the latest TOTAN night mod table from within PinballX version 1.68. I get the following script error: Line 307 - Subscript out of Range: 'AnPINewPos'

Also the coin/credit button does not work from within PinballX.

When I run this TOTAN night mod table using Vpinball.exe without the PinballX frontend the table works fine with no issues and no script errors.

Any ideas?

If you are encountering an error with PinballX, please provide copies of your pinballx.ini and log.txt files, and also provide any pertinent information, such as OS and any codecs installed. This helps the author facilitate a quicker fix for issues being reported. Thank you.

fmetz,

Here is the fix for TOTAN:

Ripley's:

Why they work outside of PBX but not inside I don't know but if you are getting a Subscript out of Range: 'AnPINewPos' error I'll bet one of the above links will fix it. (At least it did for me)

Draco,

The log is off little use in this case because PBX is not crashing, VP is throwing an error screen up behind a perfectly running PBX. The above posts are correct the table works fine if you load it up in VP, but throws a VP error when going through PBX.

Thanks, Zeenon for the explanation. As a general rule, we ask for this information just in case it is a PinballX issue. in most cases, we have complaints of stuff not working but nothing to go by and this information gives Tom something to work with.

I tested the following cab tables below. Started one via PBX, inserted a coin via the coin door, played a round, exited to PBX and started the next one.

Monster Bash - Monster Bash.VP9.V1.1.uw.FS.zip
Judge Dredd - Don't have this one
Tommy - Tommy_HD_FS_BMPR_NM_1.1.zip and the regular version
Viper - Viper.Night.Drivin_.HD.Zedonius.0.95.Visual.Pinball.912.zip
Twilight Zone - TWILIGHT ZONE - MEGAPIN - VP9 - V1.0FSHPTEAM.zip

My table names:

Monster Bash (Williams 1998).vpt

Tommy The Pinball Wizard (Data East 1994).vpt

Tommy The Pinball Wizard (Data East 1994) Night.vpt

Viper Night Drivin' (Sega 1998).vpt

Twilight Zone (Bally 1993).vpt

All these worked under v1.68.

Leaning towards pinball x as issue... A few future pinball tables will load up with backglass showing, playfield blank but working sounds just cannot see playfield. Works fine outside pinballx. I'm thinking this started happening with updated version(62 maybe)that was to decrease load times in pinballx.. Example of table with blank playfield is jaws

Thanks for the suggestion Zeenon. I actually just started a fresh install since a lot of tables were "old" and I wanted to start with quality over quantity and the TOTAN night mod was the first table I tried. Guess I just picked a bad table. I'll try some others to see if the credit button works in PinballX.

This WAS the issue for me and white water..though i had to delete the whole subscript as i could not get 11 or 12 to work. thanks zeenon. strange that build 628 works fine with no script changes…. my head hurts!!!

Posted

I just deleted the whole subscript for the TOTAN night mod table referenced in the fix Zeenon found. The TOTAN night mod table now works in PinballX. I don't know enough about visual pinball scripting to being to understand why it would work outside of Pinballx, but thanks to everyone for the support. I'm not even sure what function that subscript performs, but the table seems to play fine without it. :-)

fmetz, if I remember it's the plunger script, if you are using a launch ball button, you probably don't need it.
