Thanks for the new update. I have two nvdia gtx 260 cards, DOF, B2S and the latest vpinball beta installed under Windows XP 32bit.

I installed PinballX 1.69. Startup is OK, selection of a table is OK. But when I exit a table, the ingame menu is not opening. The screen are getting black for 0,5 secs and then the table is returning. Exiting vpinball with esc give the attached.log.txt. I tried 3 tables: Gameshow, TAF Gold and AFM. All with same error.

Unfortunately it is still not stable/running for me.

Hello Tom,

thank you for the new version.

Unfortunately the new version has the same behaviour as the previous versions. If i don't use InGame, every thing works fine. But pressing InGame-button does not open the InGame-menu. The table and backglass disappears for about 0.5 seconds, and then reappear. After once pressing InGame-button, exiting a table via QuitEmulator crashes PinballX. If i don't use the InGame-button, everything works perfect, even exiting a table via QuitEmulator-button.

Here is my current logfile. The other configuration files are attached at my last posting.

Regards from Bavaria

Antonius

I do expect so but please report back and let us know how it goes.

You know though XP is so ancient now. I have not run it for years.

The new operating systems generally have no issue with emulation stuff.

Posted

Aren't they canning support for XP soon anyways?

Posted

That's what I thought. We're moving all our client systems up to W7 and it's been a nightmare. :'(

Posted

We are at the tail of our migrations and a major pain trying to get the few remainders done because of legacy equipment that barely runs with XP.

Posted

They decided to upgrade everything including our servers. I'm sure it wasn't cheap, but some of our equipment can be found next to dinosaur fossils in the museum, so it was needed.

Nothing like waiting until the last minute. :-)

Posted

It looks like I won't be upgrading to Windows 7 for the time being but I will soon be trying a Radeon + nVidia combination rather than 2 x nVidia.

Posted

If it becomes official we will announce it but we may well be dropping official support for XP in the future for both GameEx and PinballX. As we can see from this topic it can take a significant amount of my time to support and code for it.

The issue is manufacturers and software companies don't care about XP anymore and its not that I don't like to keep folks happy but it will become increasingly difficult to do as hardware manufactures and providers of APIs (that are used in my products) drop it too.

Hi Tom,

thank you for your efforts to solve the problem. For the next months, i will stay with XP. I configured my cab not to use the InGame-menu, and so i can use PinballX without any further issues.

Kind regards from bavaria

I tried a Radeon card and I tried WIndows 7. VP performance was worse in both cases, even though the Radeon card does a lot better in benchmark tests than my nVidia card. So I'm back to nVidia and XP.

Was there any more progress on this issue or are we stuck with it?

Have you upgraded your installed version of PinballX since this was initially reported back in November? I think there have been a few updates since then.

Posted

Yes, I'm on 1.72. I can continue to post logs if it's helpful but if it won't be looked at any more I will look for another solution.

Here's my log. I recently changed my GTS450 card for another GTS450 with better cooling. I also have a NVS290 for the backglass and DMD. I can't even exit once now.

If you have swapped out GPUs, you will need to install the most up-to-date drivers from the manufacturer. In addition, install the latest DirectX version supported by your OS.
