Sorry, I explained this wrong. The start of PinballX is even slowlier when I start it manually from desktop after I closed it manually. If I uncheck the option ' Start with windows', PinballX will start much faster from desktop.

How about when you actually start Windows? It is my guess that there may be a delay hard-coded with that option to allow other processes to complete prior to starting PinballX (I am just an admin and not the author so I cannot confirm this).

I would recommend not selecting that option if you are not using it in a pincade setup.

Yes, a hard coded delay could be a reason. But it is not a problem for me. I put the link to PinballX in the autostart-folder, and so it starts fast. I use PinballX in my cab, so I want to start it automatically. I was only a little bit confused about this.

Thanks.

Dear Tom,

on my cab (win32) the latest version 1.67 also seems to crash. Table is starting but after pressing the exit key pinballX crashed.

The modified pinballx.exe you posted yesterday gives me errors while unzipping. Can you please post again?

Here is the latest test version posted as a zip.

Sounds like we are making some progress. Ill be continuing on this on Monday.

And yes there is a delay when using the start with windows. This ensures nothing steals window focus.

Tom, the attached file works much better. I tried out several tables and everything worked fine, after the 8th table (Rocky) pinballX crashed. So, much better than the old one, which crashed at every table. Thanks!

I'll get back on board with this tomorrow, I've been driling and soldering today and finished off with a few games. I'm still getting the odd crash so will try the latest exe.

Hi Tom,

I have tested the new version above. For me this version is bad. The InGame-menu doesn't appear, and pressing Exit crashes PinballX. I have reinstalled the older version. With the older version I did some test with the directb2s. It seems, that the directb2s is running when I return from Ingame-menu to normal playing. The directb2s is only hidden behind the black PinballX-backglass. I can switch the directb2s to foreground with Alt-Tab. But this is not very usefull in a cab.

Thanks anyway for your incredible work. Can you tell us more about the weird issue we have? Can we just reorganize something in our config?

Best regards from bavaria

All I can say is I am pretty sure it was all working for most folks. Maybe its a combination of XP and Nvidia.

Anyway, please try the attached. Ensure you have set the bacglass and dmd to hid in the list manager.

Thanks.

Tom.

Hi Tom,

i have tested the actual version above. It's the same. The InGame-menu doesn't appear, and pressing Exit crashes PinballX. I have checked the GameManager. On every table the hide backglass and the hide dmd is marked with a cross.

My config includes Nvidia and XP SP3. I think, the most cabs run with this combination, because this is recommended at VPForums. I'm using Nvidia driver Version 270 because every newer verson slows down VP extreme.

Best regards

Antonius

I upgraded to the latest nVidia driver and PinballX stopped working completely! I'm going to test the latest PinballX with the nVidia 270 driver later.

Here is another version to try. I am interested to know if DirectBS works again after using In game.

Its a weird issue you guys have and I don't know if Ill get it to never crash. I don't think it affects most people.

I was playing with the new version a bit last night and I didn't encounter any crashing. Although I didn't focus on a lot of testing because I was finishing the rewiring for my cabinet. I should have time tonight to really put it though it's paces and give you a final outline.

Thanks for working on resolving the problems.

Hi Tom,

i did some testing with the two versions from today. With the first version I had following results:

Exit button during playing works as expected

InGame button works as expected

Directb2s after InGame button and return to table works not ( It's in the background)

Exit button during playing after once going in the InGame menu and return to table => crashes PinballX

With the second version I had following results:

Exit button during playing works as expected

InGame button opens InGame menu

Directb2s after InGame button and return to table works => YEAHH

InGame button and then exit the table from within the InGame menu => crashes PinballX

Exit button during playing after once going in the InGame menu and return to table => crashes PinballX

This might be a clue. I went in and out of Medieval Madness 6 times without playing the game and everything worked fine. A problem I'm having currently is that the ROM is activating first and ending up behind the direct2bs backglass so I have to do ALT+TAB to bring the ROM to the front and then click back on the VP table screen (my 3rd monitor broke so I'm on a 2 monitor setup currently). After doing this, PinballX crashes to the desktop when I exit VP.

Hi Tom,

It seems to be the same result as with the second version from yesterday.

Thank you very much for working on resolving the problems. :)

I'm still getting crashes but mostly when I have had to use ALT + TAB to get my DMD in the foreground. I shouldn't have this issue when I get my 3rd screen sorted out.
