[RESOLVED] Game Ex Live / Gamer Tag Help

I haven't really used my cab in about 3 years. Now, I back to getting it going again and a lot has changed. Glad to see all of the improvements and that Game Ex is still so active. Anyway, I am excited to get this thing going again. Now if there just weren't so many updates to download.

So here is my problem. I noticed I wasn't showing up on Game Ex Live and I discovered that I had to create a Gamer Tag (which is pretty cool). I have created my Gamer Tag, but it shows no data at the top. It appears to update according to the time, but has only ever put 1 game in the data.

This seems like something that should be a no brainer, but I'm stumped.

Thanks

Dan

Also, have you run the reg key that you (should have) received in your email when you signed up for it?

That was my problem when I was beating my head against the tag. I saw multiple links and didn't read carefully enough to realize one of them was the reg key that made the tag talk to the server.

I figured it out. It was my firewall. The problem was when I went to turn it off, my subscription had expired to Mcafee. I went to update and it crashed in the middle of the update. Now, I can't re-install Mcafee. I've been having lots of crashing since getting this back together. I think I'm at the point where I have to re-install XP and start over.

Not to resurrect a dead topic but question regarding gamecards. Is the card updated immediately or is there an update lag? I have a registered version and I created the card an hour ago(as of this post).

I played a few games in MAME but it still shows No Data.

Anything I am missing?

Have you played any games since you got your gamertag?

Yes. I played Punch-Out!! and Mania Challenge a few games after signing up.

Either you didn't run the reg key or your system isn't online. Mine's working. :)

Re-run the reg fie if you already have and see if it works.

I ran the registration key again, rebooted, played AD&D Tarmin(Intellivision) and Punch-Out!! as well. I am posting from the emulation station so I'm online.

Is there a GameEx setting I need to turn on or should it be automatic? I suppose my next step would be to try and uninstall/reinstall GameEx but I'd HATE to lose my settings.

EDIT: I also removed all instances of GameEx from the Firewall exception list then added gameex.exe and gameextender.exe again with full permissions.

Be sure to check your router firewall (this is usually on by default) and make sure that there are exceptions there as well, in addition to any anti-virus/malware suite you may be running (i.e. Norton or MacAfee)..

I have all my PCs in the house on static IP addresses so I can port forward without issue(this one is 10.0.0.4 as an example). The router has GameEx set to port forward as well as uTorrent so I know that works. I turned off my Windows firewall completely and still nothing updates. I feel like I am missing something stupid(I work on computers for a living) but I'll be damned if I can find it.

I also know that nothing works 100% when it comes to Micro$oft products. Could be one of these times. :)

It'd be rare. :)

Tom may need to step in here.

I have my and my wife's PCs, printer, and Xbox 360 assigned static as well - all else (guests) set to grab via DHCP. You shouldn't have to uninstall/reinstall GameEx to get this to function. You may want to try clearing out your temp internet files, close out of your browser session, and flush the DNS resolver cache (from Command prompt, type ipconfig /flushdns). Restart your browser. If still no results, reboot the PC.

I've already done that last night. I usually go a step further and manually verify the internet files are empty as they sometimes don't go away.

I also ran Microsoft Security Essentials(A/V) and MalwareBytes full scans last night also. All clean.

Gotcha. I am not sure what to tell you at this point so modified the topic title so Tom can see it and try to address.

Well I am happy to report that the issue I had was between the keyboard and the chair...

I have Outlook go and get my Yahoo mail so it's all on my system. I went back and re-read the email to make sure I didn't miss anything. After my fourth time reading it the email mentions running an ATTACHED file. Since Outlook didn't download an attachment for me I read that as being the REGISTRATION key file so I just expected the links in the email to work.

Outlook didn't download the attachment. I just went and got the original email on the server - good thing I don't have it delete the emails - and I downloaded the key. It works fine.

Very sorry for the confusion. I knew it was something stupid I was missing.

So does your copy of gameex need to be registered for your tag to show games? (sorry I'm new)

No, it doesnt.
