  1. wow this sounds awesome. i was waiting for someone to write a script for this. it would be great with my trackball. now for my stupid question... where do i insert that script?
  2. thanks, i tried searching.. that's how i found the name of the tweakui program, but couldn't find an answer to my latest question. thanks though for the feedback.
  3. hey everyone, fresh format on my arcade pc took place last night and no internet will be used on it at all so it will be strictly dedicated to the games we all love... and of course... game ex. i don't like the idea of trying to figure out the sheller offered on the gameex page, and had a "good enough" less risk way of booting my arcade prior to the format. i just got the tweakui from windows to hide all of my desktop icons, and set the taskbar to auto hide. i still have to get the bootskin buddy, but was wondering of one last option. i remember configuring my bios to skip the welcome/start screen and boot directly to my account. i have that option ticked in the tweakui but i'm thinking i did something in the registry edit. headkaze was the fellow to help me out the last time, but whoever else knows what i'm talking about, please refresh my memory. thanks to you all. -katuuuz
  4. i'm totally aware of it's use in gameex, and my cab is supported.. i'm saying on my desktop computer i wanted to have the nes/snes/genesis rom sets, but no gameex (it's not dedicated to games like my cab) ...just wondering if any of the emulators supported goodmerged sets, which i'm thinking they don't unfortunately. thanks though. EDIT** i'm not knocking gameex, i'm still madly in love with it.
  5. i recently decided to get a goodmerged nes romset, but am wondering how exactly to play the games without extracting (isn't that the point of the goodmerge?) i actually have no idea about it but have downloaded rompacks before that weren't compressed so i'd have 5 of the same game but from different countries... any explanation will help, like what emulator is best for goodmerged, or something to that notion.
  6. i'm not sure how to do that, but i like the idea and would be interested in finding out myself.
  7. try adding all the endings (j) (u) (e) in the filter of the gameex config. just a thought.
  8. i had a similar problem, i'm not on my cabinet pc now, but i think it was called start. like nintendo is nes, mame was start i believe. never knew why myself. if it's not, i'll go downstairs and check my cab if you want.
  9. thanks man, works like a charm.
  10. hey guys, wondering if anyone knows how to configure Dosbox to stretch the screen on a 15" widescreen laptop. I went into the configuration and set fullscreen to true, but it's still really small, centered in the middle. i understand i can't achieve widescreen, but know it can go bigger than it is.
  11. I have a technical difficulty. When trying to run KQ5 in DOS the game boots, but says "unable to initialize your audio hardware." then the sierra splash screen shows and sparkles with no audio, and then DOS locks up. I had a similar difficulty with Police Quest 4, i solved the problem by configuring my msdos.sys file to GUI=0 Logo=0 so the pc boots to dos, and added command lines to my autoexec.bat enabling my soundcard driver, and dosmouse driver to install in dos without going to windows first. (thanks to kaze for the mouse). That fixed PQ4 and raised my hopes for KQ5, but to no avail. If anyone knows a way around this, please help me. NOTE: I don't have my kq5 cd, i have all files off the disc on my computer. and when Police Quest 4 wasn't working, it asked for the mouse IN game. after the mouse got fixed, it said audio error OUT OF game (DOS screen). KQ5 is delivering my audio error IN game. also: I've tried installing in DOS by typing "INSTALL" but after verifying my audio/video/controller options, my only choices are "view readme" "accept and save configuration" "make boot disk" and "exit to DOS". When I try to "make boot disk" i insert a blank floppy as prompted, and when DOS tries to open it's formatter, it says "insufficient space". I'm stuck!
  12. thanks, sorry I came on and just typed that question before I realized there was another thread right there. my mistake.
  13. hey gang, now that i have a 2nd computer, i was thinking about formatting my arcade pc because i've been using that to surf the net, download things, and so on. i'm thinking formatting it and re-installing my emulators/roms and using it once and for all soley for an arcade, it'd run a lot better than it does now. this is my question though, if i were to back up my gameex folder to cd-r, do i have to re-register after i load it on my fresh hard drive? if not is there something certain i should do before i wipe my HD clean?
  14. i'm a barber
  15. haha, i'm sorry man. thanks.
  16. thanks kaze, the mouse installs and i got by that no mouse error on my game, but now it's saying i have an audio.cpp error?! maybe it can't detect my sound card without going through windows? is there a way to insert another command in the autoexec.exe?
  17. not working. i can't find mouse.com, nor mouse.sys on my hd. if i could have found them i could type "LH C:\WINDOWS\SETUP\MOUSE.COM"(.SYS)... i did find mouse.drv hidden in my system folder but tried the above command and it didn't work. it's wierd, cuz when i go to dos from windows my mouse works when editing autoexec.exe and msdos.sys, and of course in the games. if i can only find the command to do it manually!
  18. head kaze, i was just trying to play police quest 4 after modifying my system to start in dos upon boot (that link you graciously gave me) and it says "fatal cannot detect mouse" but when i run it through windows, it is fine. just wanted to know if it makes sense to you.
  19. kaze, i have to hand it to you AGAIN. thank you so much. i turn on the system and it goes straight to dos for playing all those classic games i grew up with. and if i <i>do</i> want to use windows, i just have to type "win" at the C:>. now my win 98 is running in 16 colors, so say i need to use the internet on this pc, all the pictures look scummy and you can barely make out what they are. do i have to buy a new video card to enable 256 color mode?! i have a newer dell model monitor that is compatible with this old dell, but i <I>do</i> have a standard pci grapihix card. i could've sworn before i formatted the c: drive it was more than 16 colors, but i think it was winme. i don't know i'm just thinking out loud.
  20. yes sir, it was delete. thanks a lot kaze - nice to hear from you along with that. i have a follow up question if you don't mind... is there a way to (without deleting windows) have my pc boot directly the the C prompt (dos) whenever i turn it on? i'm asking because i've dedicated this 1.99 gigabyte windows 98 lunker to playing old dos games.
  21. hey all, havn't messed with windows 98 since ..98 haha. seriously though, what do i press when the pc's booting to enter the bios?? brain fart... and i can't think of how to word it in google.
  22. affirmative, i'll let you know how it turns out, had to run out and get floppys, win 98 is installing now. thanks.
  23. what do you mean box up and net worthy?
  24. nologic you are the man. i find myself saying this often. as soon as win98 is done being installed on my other pc, i'm about to format my arcade pc for i was using it to surf the net and things like that and it's not a true arcade only pc. i'm sure i'll be on here troubleshooting things setting up my cab again, but i thank you again mate. p.s. i'm playing lucasarts and sierra games all day otherwise on my *new* windows 98 pc.
  25. excellent man excellent. i'm just waiting on my win98 cd now to try and wrap things up. now say i was going to format a fairlly new computer's HD that is running windows xp... do i just create the partition like the older pc, get a winxp boot disc and do that same things?
