Oh, the new possibilities... Now I just need a fresh idea
-
Afraid not. I wanted to do something new and original. When I get more familiar with V3, I might revisit Valhalla. I'll cover for ya. I'll crank them out before I make the 800x600 ini file.

Yup, MGS4 is solid gold. Hit me up and I'll play some Metal Gear Online with ya! Thanks for the kudos. Are you still working on animated icons? I can't wait to see what KI and Valhalla will look like with those. -
Lookin' pretty good. I should have the 800x600 Killer Instinct theme out before the end of this week.

Thanks Tom! I'm looking forward to making some cool stuff with your new V3 themes. From what I've read/heard it's sweet -
Well, I was going to release this last week, but then Metal Gear Solid 4 for the Playstation 3 came out, and ... yeah. It would have taken a massive, amazing game to tear me away from my work on this theme, and MGS4 was it. Anyways, without any further delays: Click Here to Download: Killer Instinct - 1024x768 Theme includes: - 100% Original Design - Opening Movies - PSD Photoshop File to easily customize/create backgrounds - Mix and match KI characters with different systems, or throw in Mario, Sonic, etc. - Killer Instinct Font I will release a 800x600 Version shortly. TOM: Can you do me a favor and please re-upload the Valhalla theme to your GameEx website? There's a few tweaks I made to the theme a while ago that don't appear in your version. The latest copy is in the link below. Thanks!

I was thinking of something that would override whatever someone was playing in their media bar with the music files in a theme folder. For example, if someone made a Street Fighter theme, you could add the stage music to a folder inside the theme, point the media bar to the music with the theme.ini file, and whenever you use the Street Fighter theme, Street Fighter music plays. Of course I was thinking of doing this with the Killer Instinct theme I'm building. Then again, it might be an annoying feature if every theme-maker starts thinking they are DJs... myself included
-
I'm probably opening a Pandora's box, but: Is there any way to create a Music folder within a theme, and then use the theme.ini file to play the music inside of that file? I just got the idea when I was looking at amos_82's Future Retro theme, where he included a startup movie using the 'StartupVideo' command, and wondered if there was a way to override a user's playlist with the 'MusicPlaylist' command or something similar.

I wouldn't say it's discontinued, but it's on a major hiatus unless I get a few good character pics for systems I've missed, then I'll do another re-re-re-issue. As far as Photoshop Docs for Valhalla, I kinda got screwed on that once so I'm pretty hesitant to give the whole thing out. What I'm happy to do is if I missed any lesser-known systems, and you (or anyone else for that matter) find a good-quality character pic that represents that system, I'll make it for you, then add it to Valhalla. PM me and we'll talk about it, k? -
Good to hear V2 Themes still work. Can't wait to pick this up.
-
Alright, another for w/o heads. Because there isn't a ton of quality images from either game, there is going to be a mish-mash of KI and KI2 elements (characters and styles).
-
Sweet. I'm installing it right now.

It's good to see people are making hi-res themes for GameEx. Now I can put my HDTV to good use I really like the icons that you're using. Very good, hi-res, accurate representations. One thing that really sticks out in my mind is the nice conjoining of the two content boxes. That's an idea I wish I honestly thought of. Good design technique. It really has a military or industrial look. Whether or not that's what you were aiming at, i'm not sure, but it still looks good.

I saw! Awesome! What do you play online for the PS3? My stuff is up to date here: http://www.gameex.info/forums/index.php?showtopic=4291 I'd ask for the Wiikey, but I would need a wii first

I wouldn't say i'm a 'theme guy'. I'm still a n00b compared to others in this forum when it comes to making themes. Design, maybe i'm good at, but i still don't know how to make a 640x480 version of Valhalla. haha. I already saw Retrobox. I'm going to wait the weekend and see how things end up. Also, if you like one, but can think of something that might make it look a little better, feel free to suggest.

I had one of the most thought provoking nightmares last night: I was still living in Seattle (a good start to any nightmare, haha) and I had moved into another apartment a few months ago. I had my brother, mother, and father over and we were packing up to get going back to Montana because school was over. As we were packing things up for the long ride home, a horrific realization came to me when I remembered that a lot of my more 'knick-nack' stuff I had kept in a storage shed. I also realized that I hadn't seen any bill from that storage shed in quite a while, and it was likely that I never updated my address with them. So I checked the storage shed's website (remember, this is a dream so it's bound to be rediculous) and infront of me was everything I had kept in the storage shed, all up for public auction. What was (more) odd was that as I scowered through everything that was going to be sold, I never cared much for things like the video games, the movies, or the pieces of furnature. It was the scraps of paper, the drawings, the notebooks, etc that I was horrified about losing. Pieces of paper that I once put my innermost thoughts onto were now teetering on the edge of being lost to me forever. So my brother and I jumped into the car and raced to the storage shed with checkbook in hand. However, we kept driving in circles. The tension was building by the thought that every moment we spent driving nowhere, another piece of ME (not physically, but more on a mental/spiritual level) was disappearing. I woke up and spent several hours reflecting exactly what around me was truely valuable. If I had to save a handful of things from a fire, would it be that pile of tattered notebooks in my bookshelf that I once doodled and wrote in, but I haven't even opened in ages? It's raining outside, otherwise I would go for a drive to clear my head. I do, however, have Captain Morgan and Coke

Hi all, Well, since my Valhalla theme seemed to go over extremely well in the GameEx community (thanks all!), I'm back behind the mouse making a new one. This time around it's going to be a Killer Instinct theme. It wasn't really my idea, but a couple of GameEx members have been making suggestions and this is the one that I felt strongest about. I mean, it was the arcade version of Killer Instinct that started my whole "downward spiral" into emulation, and thus GameEx and finally the Valhalla theme. This theme will be over acheiving, as well as under achieving. As far as going 'lite', I don't intend to do another Valhalla with a character for each system (that was harder than you would expect), so KI charactes will be used instead. To make up for this, I'll be throwing in tracks from the Killer Instinct soundtrack, include some startup videos, and will include a flattened Photoshop file and the Killer Instinct Font so people can pretty much customize this theme for whatever they emulate. Anyways, I'm coming across a few design decisions that I'd like your feedback on before I get too much further. Right now it's the Media Bar. I have 2 designs I like, but I have to choose one. The first one I like because it has the character icons at the top, which is kind of nostalgic of the KI Character Select menu. The second one is smaller and cleaner, but still keeps with the design as a whole. So which do you want? Suggestions?

Nice setup. The only thing you're missing is Venom and (my fav) Carnage

Wow, looks like there's a ton of categories. Adultery, are you really using 3 videos for each? I'm impressed. It's going to be daunting, but it should look really sweet. I said I wasn't really picky, but when I saw a few of the categories, I changed my mind - Fighting: Killer Instinct (naturally ), Mortal Kombat 2, and Super Street Fighter 2 - Capcom: SSF2, Strider 2, Ghouls n' Ghosts - Vector: Tempest, and Asteroids - Neo Geo: King of Fighters (a more recent one), Metal Slug - 2/4 Player: Aliens vs Predator, Cadillacs and Dinosaurs, X-Men These are just my votes, take 'em or leave them. Either way, I'm sure your new project will rock everyone's MAME machines.
-
Sweet!! Thanks man!
-
I second using Tempest for the Vector logo video. If you're actually taking requests, the only one I really want to make is 'Aliens vs Predator' for 2 player co-op. Let me know if you need any help making avi's. And good luck finding something for the 'Adult' icon that won't be too obscene

Hey, just one of the guys I wanted to talk to. I've made a lot of headway with the Killer Instinct theme, but it needs some refinement. PM me or send me an email address if you want to help me critique my new project. The same goes for Night, Amos and any one else whose eye for design helped make my last project, 'Valhalla' better. Killer Instinct, or 'ULTRA' as I affectionately call it, is going to be a lot more simple than Valhalla, but will be much more 'eye candy' as far as design.
