In the MAME config in the OTHER CONTROLS SECTION, Choose UI CANCEL and reassign the key to a joypad button. This will close mame via your button I recommend during the reassignment to press multiple keys at the same time that way you dont accidently colse your game in the middle of playing on accident. Getting arcade working... Please, for the love of god, help
Brian Hoffman replied to Marker0077's topic in General
To play NEOGEO games you need the NEOGEO bios first of all. Also many diffrent roms require several other roms to run. example you cannot play ultimate mortal kombat 3 with out having mortal kombat 3. I recommed you find a rom burner pay the 25 dollars for the DVD sets and have everything you need. It does take some time to learn how to configure but its worth it..dont get discourged. have fun Brian Hoffman -
I've never used that setup exactly however it sounds like a screen resoulution issue.. Have you tried tweaking the setting in the ARCADEVGA portion config in Gameex?

Changing Map Key to something other than Esc...
Brian Hoffman replied to Marker0077's topic in General
under the emulator configuration advanced config. cut and paste this config in your config file. this config will perform an ALT+F4 once a specific key sequence is pressed simutansly. I use this config on all my emulators I realize ESC is used in other emus as a function. ALT+F4 will close most anything. # This is an advanced emulator configuration file. It does things such as allow keyboard only emulators to be operated by a gamepad, wait for additional processes to exit and map keys. If this file is used it overrides the MAPKeys setting for the emulator. [GENERAL] # Enabled. Use this. Enabled=True #Make MCE Back button and X-ARCADE Escape and SlikStik Escape to close emulator process MapBack=True #Make Escape key close emulator process MapEscape=False #When exiting an emulator via the above mappings, you can specify keys in the send keys format to send instead of having GameEx close the process to cleanly exit the emulator. Such as the Q Key or ALT F4 which is %{F4} KeysToSendOnExit=%{F4} #Wait for keys to be processed by the emulator EmuWaitForKeys=False #Additional processes to wait to exit or close on exit. Dont include the .exe. Leave blank not to use. Process1= Process2= Process3= Process4= [JOYMAPPING] # For mapping a GamePad to keys # Specify a virtual key code to send when the specific joystick control is pressed. Look at vkcodes.htm for codes. JoymappingEnabled=FALSE Left=37 up=38 Right=39 Down=40 Button1=17 Button2=18 Button3=32 Button4=53 Button5=54 Button6=49 Button7= Button8= Button9= Button10= [GAMEPADEXIT] #MAP Gamepad controls to exit and make controls exit process MapGamePadExit=true #Flag the controls that exit a game by placing True next to each control. New to MAME & getting frustrated (n00b Q's), help please...
Brian Hoffman replied to Marker0077's topic in General
goto mameworld.net for all your resources I use mame32 use the -joy switch in the command line options to enable joystick. once mame is launched press the TAB key from here you will be able to assign controls globaly or for a specific game. Use the enter key once a control is highlighted and it will wait for your input to reassign the key. I also would recommend setting the UI CANCEL to a specific key combination this will allow you to exit mame via your game pad example: L1+R1+SELECT+START will exit MAME In responce to your first question. Did you perform an update list? Dont take this the wronway you did mention your a noob. GOOD LUCK THERE IS ALOT TO LEARN Brian Hoffman -
http://home.cogeco.ca/~icorrupt/nomousy1.5.zip This software will hide your cursor. Note:this seems to work best when used in TWEAKS/PERFORMANCE launch on startup dont wat c:\nomousy.exe /hide ---HIDES CUROSR--- launch on exit dont wait c:\nomousy.exe ---unhidescursor---- Have Fun Brian Hoffman

After some investigating It doesnt seem to have anything to do with instant sheller I thought it might have not loaded a required service but I went and loaded explorer and tried to launch gameex and still no luck. A little history on what Ive been doing. I have Gamex working in a administrative account and it works great. Then I created another account to only run Gameex. I used instant sheller and had it only mody a single account so that when this user logs in it will only run gameex. After this I logged back in to my administrator account and made the new accout a limited user. I logged off admin and logged into the other account and got the error I posted in the prevoius post. I then went into gameex config unter tweaks and added EHSHELL process to the launch on startup. now I recieve a diffrent error. Keep in mind gamex works fine in the original account just not in the new account. It just hangs here. sorry for the long story. here is the log 01:06:31.7 7/9/2006: GameEx: Version 6.42: Starting Log 01:06:31.8 7/9/2006: Operating System Platform: Win32NT 01:06:31.8 7/9/2006: Operating System Name: Windows XP 01:06:31.8 7/9/2006: Operating System Version: 5.1.2600 01:06:31.8 7/9/2006: Checking for versions of .net Framework installed 01:06:31.8 7/9/2006: .net Framework 1.0 Installed 01:06:31.8 7/9/2006: .net Framework 1.1 Installed 01:06:31.8 7/9/2006: Checking Registration 01:06:31.9 7/9/2006: Running Randomize() 01:06:31.9 7/9/2006: Checking for applications to Launch On Startup 01:06:31.9 7/9/2006: Initialising Video/MNG DLL's 01:06:32.5 7/9/2006: Running Misc startup tasks 01:06:32.5 7/9/2006: Setting Menu types 01:06:32.5 7/9/2006: Opening Configuration File 01:06:32.5 7/9/2006: Getting Configuration Values 01:06:32.5 7/9/2006: Using Theme: Default - Future Retro 01:06:32.5 7/9/2006: Checking for alternate Image Directory for Theme: Default - Future Retro 01:06:32.6 7/9/2006: Launching HideOS.exe 01:06:33.8 7/9/2006: Hiding Taskbar 01:06:34.5 7/9/2006: Is Media Center running? 01:06:34.5 7/9/2006: Checking/Creating LCD Registry values 01:06:34.5 7/9/2006: Check Media Center Exit/Start Mode 01:06:34.5 7/9/2006: Media Center Mode 0 01:06:34.6 7/9/2006: Text/Language: English 01:06:34.6 7/9/2006: Applying Language/Text 01:06:34.7 7/9/2006: Snap Delay set to: 1 01:06:34.7 7/9/2006: Get other settings 01:06:34.7 7/9/2006: Desktop set to Hide ICONS and set Background to Black 01:06:34.7 7/9/2006: Backing up Registry Wallpaper Settings 01:06:34.7 7/9/2006: Set: Find emulator artwork on best match basis 01:06:34.7 7/9/2006: Start work for Form 01:06:34.7 7/9/2006: Getting Original Screen Size 01:06:34.7 7/9/2006: Loading ICON 01:06:34.8 7/9/2006: Initializing Component 01:06:35.2 7/9/2006: Initialising Bass Audio Library 01:06:35.8 7/9/2006: Loading default loading screen 01:06:35.8 7/9/2006: Version 2 Theme being used. I am using instant sheller and it works great! on the XP pro (non media center) boots up and works as it should. using media center gamex tries to load and errors out saying media center is not running so gameex will not launch. Since media center isnt requred why does it error out? any help would be appreciated.. If I figure it out in the meantime I will post the solution. Thanks Brian Hoffman

Typical delay to expect when returning to gameex?
Brian Hoffman replied to popcorrin's topic in General
I have 3 ghz and it takes 4 to 8 sec.. it depends which emu im using and how memory intensive it is i guess. -
You can configure Windows XP to automate the logon process if your computer is not part of a domain. 1. Click Start, click Run, and type "control userpasswords2". (without quotes) 2. Clear the Users must enter a username and password to use this computer check box. 3. Click Apply. 4. Enter the user name and password you wish to automatically log on with, and then click OK. 5. Click OK again and you're all done.

do the games run perfectly in mame. ex no emulation errors, video is correct? your filter could be set to not show imperfect games or maybe the genre? I might have these games as well I will check in my config. It seems I have the same issue. The games appear in all games listing but it does not seem to belong to any catergory. maybe tom can come up with a feature that would allow custom catergorys and the ability to add roms witin the catergory. similar to the way we can exclude or include roms? just a thought.

Problems with game filters.... how do they work?
Brian Hoffman replied to Mike_Fu's topic in General
Have you updated gamelist after you choose to exclude a rom from the filter? -
its called Instant sheller and it availablr here under the extras section I believe. http://tomspeirs.com/gameex/download/instantsheller.zip also be sure you are completly done configuring gamex before use.

This isnt easy most cocktail games natively support screen flipping but mame has to emulate it. I have played many cocktail game where I recieve a message stating that screen flipping in cocktail mode not supported. I know my nvida card lets me rotate my desktop through software maybe a hotkey or macro can be created to flip the screen at the press of a button like the 2nd player start or somthin.
-
you can use DOS or change you shell. Tom has created a program that will hide your OS completley its very usefull I suggest you check into it as I believe you want the feel of a gaming machine without having to load windows interface and launch an executable.
-
does mame play the game correctly outside gameex without the sound issues? If it doesnt you may need to upgrade your processor or use an older version of mame as the new versions are very CPU hungry or try a version that isnt created by the mame team mame32 plus and a few other have code written for AMD and pentium processors that take advantage of the diffrent architectures. good luck Brian Hoffman

I use the gens emulator and find it usefull to use the joypad mapping that comes with gameex use perform an ALT+F4 with a key combination. I use an PSX to USB converter and when I press a multiple keys this works with 99% of my EMUs

Turning computer on and off w/out opening cabinet
Brian Hoffman replied to adajmk's topic in General
Most new PC's support Keyboard poweron. set this in your bios I use an Xarcade but most controlpanels go through PS2. once this is enable all you should have to do is wiggle your joystick to poweron and use Gameex to power off. Good luck Brian Hoffman
