Galloping Ghost Arcade in Chicago, IL, USA (Awesome!!!)
garetmax replied to garetmax's topic in Social Club
Their website lists a Funhouse Pinball. They have some Street Fighters but it doesn't show a Street Fighter pinball. They don't have a Whirlwind pinball listed. I played a couple pinballs when I was there as I love those too. I used to have PinMame setup on my old arcade cabinet but haven't set that up yet on the new cabinet. I wanted to keep it simple this time with my arcade and focus more on gameplaying than setting up every emulator out there. -

Are there any kinds of arcades in the Netherlands or Europe now? I've seen some postings about Spanish, French, and Italian versions of old arcade boards getting dumped in Mame so I'm guessing Europe must have had some arcades back in the 80s/90s. By the way GC, my mother's side of my family came from the Netherlands. I used to do genealogy and tracked my "VanWingen" line back to Oudelande, Zeeland Province, Netherlands. My VanWingens's came on a boat to the USA in 1881 from Oudelande. The farthest VanWingen I've tracked was in the 1700's. There are still VanWingen's in that area so I'm sure I'm related to them. -

They only have around 5 or so pinballs so not that many now but they are planning expansions so maybe they'll get more. Yeah, the electric bill is probably big but they don't need to buy much gas for heat. It was around 30F outside but warm inside so they had some fans blowing some air around in various places. One thing that I really liked but others may not is there is a $15 door fee. For the $15 fee, all games have custom buttons on them to enable freeplay. You can play as many games as you want and can do continues as many times as you want to get to the higher levels. You'll want to plan for more than an hour to get your moneys worth. The downside to this $15 fee is that you wouldn't want to just pop in for a short time and have to pay $15 each time. I think each person that comes in has to pay this $15 fee also even if they aren't playing. Even for little kids its $15. This might keep the casual gamers away or larger groups away as it might be pricey depending on your budget. Their website lists weekly, monthly, yearly, and lifetime memberships but I don't know what those fees are. If I lived in Chicago I could see myself getting a yearly or lifetime membership. I think I saw a Street Fighter or 2 in there but I don't know what Fun House or Whirlwind is so am not sure about those. Another thing about this place is that this is not a fancy flashy sparkling new style arcade with new machines. This place is about playing 20-35 year old arcade machines. Machines this old are not in the best looking condition and probably take a lot of work keeping them up and running. There were some that weren't powered as they must be working on them. For me, I loved this place, but for others, they may not. -
Han, that's exactly what I've always liked about this game: how easy it is to play, the music, and the nice animation.

I kind of like this game. I think I played this one in an arcade years ago. I see in the Mame notes and on the web that only around 1,000 were made. I need just a little more to get another life at 30,000. I think I can get there but need some more practice. STC 28,183 Using my trackball.

I think Galaga is the arcade game that I've played the most in my life. I've always loved this game. This is the game that got me into Mame originally. It was everywhere there was an arcade and even at the small convenience stores like Stop & Go and 7/11. I still see it around in various places which shows just how popular this game was and is but now I see it in a combo Ms Pacman/Galaga arcade cabinet. Whenever I see it, I play it. The Dave and Busters I was at a couple weeks ago had one right inside the main front entrance. Buffalo Wild Wings near me always used to have this combo arcade too although I haven't been there lately to know if they've still got it. Here's my submission. I was really on a roll for awhile but then I blew it and lost all my lives in just a couple levels pretty quickly. Playing on the hardest setting. STC 154,960 Check out the pic, which has terrible lighting blurs, of the kids version of Galaga that was at Dave and Busters. It pays out tickets so the kids can redeem them for toys and things at the redemption counter. Whenever I play one of the redemption games, I give all my tickets to some little kid and they just look at me like I just gave them a million bucks and can't believe how lucky they are. Its pretty cool to see that.

On my training trip to Chicago I also went to a Dave and Busters. Whenever I go to training classes I always look to find a Dave and Busters. We don't have a Dave and Busters yet in Grand Rapids, MI yet although I saw an article last fall that one is coming so I'm looking forward to that. For anymore not familiar, Dave and Busters is a bar/restaurant/arcade that has newer arcade video games and arcade games for little kids as well. A couple newer arcades that I haven't seen before were Star Wars Battle Pod and Mach Storm. These big arcades have curved screens which wrap around 180 degrees that you can view left and right and quite a ways up and down also. The gameplay was a little easy but its still very fun as those screens are great. I can't wait to see more of that type of immersive gameplay with big curved screens. http://www.daveandbusters.com/default.aspx Here's some pics. They aren't very good as I was getting big glares because of all the arcade lights going on. For $29,000 you could buy your own Mach Storm Arcade. http://www.thepinballcompany.com/mach-storm-air-combat-simulator.aspx#.VSHNVVI5CJA Here's a Star Wars Battle Pod article. http://www.cnet.com/news/star-wars-returns-to-arcade-with-battle-pod/

I went to the Galloping Ghost Arcade in Chicago, IL, USA a couple weeks ago while I was in Chicago for a work training. I couldn't believe how many original arcade games they have. It was something like 450 or so. Their website says they are the largest arcade in the USA. It was such a thrill to play these games on the real arcades that I haven't touched in 30-35 years. I spent about 5 hours there in one night. My wrists were hurting when I left. I can't wait to go back there. It was incredible. Any old school arcade fan has to go there. It looks like they want to expand and add even more games and pinballs. http://www.gallopingghostarcade.com/

I'm terrible at this game so couldn't even submit something as my scores were really bad. Here's a couple pictures I took when I was at Galloping Ghost Arcade in Chicago a couple weeks ago and played this game there. What's interesting to me is that I'm actually better at this game on my arcade with using 3 buttons side by side as opposed to the real arcade. The real arcade has an upside down pyramid button layout that I found to be extremely tough to play. Check out the high scores they show: World record: over 2.2 Million Galloping Ghost Arcade record: 680,000 By the way: If your ever near Chicago you have to go to the Galloping Ghost Arcade. I haven't seen that many old school arcades in one spot ever, not even my old local arcades 30 years ago in their heyday. Their website says they are the largest arcade in the USA. That place is incredible. http://www.gallopingghostarcade.com/

Here's a better score for me on Robotron. I've been playing more since I got that score and feel like I'm better but can't seem to get higher than that one. 142,800 STC

I've got a little better score to submit. Just a little more to move up to the next spot. 34,606 STC I use a trackball.

Thanks a lot. The scores gives me something to shoot for and improve my game. I won't be able to compete with those super high scores but this will be fun.

Here's another one of my favorites I played a lot in the arcades. 33,067 Set to hard mode Using Mame compiled 158 Thanks

Here's my first submission so I don't know what I'm doing. This is one of my favorite games growing up. Score was 115,150 Difficulty changed to 5 I'm using compiled Mame 158 Those are some huge scores up there - wow! Thanks

I got it working. The key was to enable the Global snaps and disable the mame options. I tried lots of things but never tried that combo of options. I'm using compiled mame without direct input. I'm also using CPWizard with different options than shown on the CPWizard website. Here's my setups. Thanks Adultery!

Here's my log. I changed the .log to .txt as I couldn't upload it. Thanks Snapper.txt Settings.xml

I've been trying different settings but the only screenshots I get are these. I see what happened now - those screenshots in the previous post were not the most recent which was a mistake when I posted. They were older ones when I had direct-input mame compiled running. Where is this screenshot coming from? I hear the camera click and it makes a jpg file and names it but its always the same.
