format should be all .bin files. i will try it with fusion and see if that works. gens+ is set up that way already, so i dont understand why it wont work. i shall tinker with it some more.

yeah i dont really understand why games are being added *after* i selected update list. it was my understanding at least with mame that when you update the rom list it creates a database file with all the roms listed...and thats it. it was my understanding it doesnt continue to search for games in the rom folder, but goes off of that database file. i swear gameex is made of witchcraft and russian roulette. i have used the same setup in 3 different rigs. every time its a new issue. well as long as i have my cadillac and dinosaurs, im happy.

My last thread i was getting my HTPC all game exed up. its pretty spiffy. only problem is, sega CDs will not load. im thinking this is more of a user error than a problem with game ex or the emulators. For the sake of trying to get it running, I have installed both Fusion and Gens+. Yes both have the bios loaded and both play outside of game ex when opened and loaded with the appropriate bin file. my problem on both is that when launching through game ex, they both just kick me back to the game load screen. If done too many times, Fusion will actually stay with a blank screen overlay on top of game ex and windows media center meaning i have to do a Alt+Tab just to get out of it. I'd prefer to use Gens+ as it is faster and seems to work better with the games. the roms are in the right location and the art downloader has even worked for some of them. I even tried adding the -.scd tag in both of them hoping that it might make it work to no avail. I'm not even sure if removing and reinstalling will do anything as I believe its a problem with the config. Any pointers? GameEx.ini log.txt

there is also a way to set it to show up in the emulator section and not in the main page. but as with my recent problems i had i wouldnt suggest tinkering with it too much. but yes there are ways to disable it in the setup wizard. just got to look for it. it wont jump out and bite you.

well mame roms are showing up now. i decided to default the options in the setup wizard, and i think that might have gotten things working, because after that the mame roms directory changed, and i was able to set it correctly. some roms still arent showing up, but they may just need to be renamed. i need to find a good utility for that. still i thought the default settings would change more things than just mame settings. all my other configurations for emulators, etc. stayed the same... i had a set of .149 mame roms and .151 mame roms and just added them together. worked for alot of what i wanted, but that was a while ago and now some of my favorites arent showing up (cadillacs and dinosaurs, tmnt, etc.)... here are the files requested. *update* this is kind of strange. i performed an update list. it took a rather long time. saved successfully, things looked good. then i noticed my favorite roms missing. now they are slowly starting to appear in the list. a good example is cadillacs and dinosaurs. It did not show up in the "All Mame games" list when i first started showing my girlfriend the arcade games. about 45 minutes later as im showing her how the categories works, it shows up in the capcom games. Now that all is fixed for the original problems of directories fouling up, this thread can be marked as resolved. when in doubt, remove and reinstall the emu, and when that doesnt work go for defaulting to original settings. I will start a new thread over my sega CD woes. log.txt GameEx.ini

well reinstalling game ex didnt help much as i believe it kept the config file. mame is now showing up in the main menu again. when i select to update the list, it does. but still doesnt show the roms. Now im running into the issue of sega cd bin files not loading correctly. kicks me back to the screen. i didnt have it working from the beginning, it was something i added to the mix, but fusion and gens+ refuses to load them correctly, but will run outside of game ex.

something just seems off with this installation. im going to try to reinstall. there are just some odd problems here i havent seen before.
-
i did follow the steps it is no longer in the emulator selections page. but it isnt showing up on the main page either. I also changed out the demo locations with the "C:\Emulators\Mame" directory. where is this remote help you speak of?
-
hmmm. well now mame isnt showing up in the emulator setup page. I first disabled the show mame on start page. i tried putting it back to default and now i cant find mame anywhere. *le sigh* i wish more people used the chat thing here.

I tried doing the uninstall/reinstall deal with mame and unfortunately it is stuck showing only the demo videos. i would really hate to have to do an uninstall/reinstall when everything else is set up except for mame. i will continue to try to tinker with it, lets hope it jostles something back into place.

completely removed the pcsx2 from the system and reinstalled it. its working fine now. still trying to figure mame out now. for some reason mame in demo\mame and the one in the emulator download page does not like working. i had to replace it with an older version i had lying around. when it found the roms would not load them. just blank screen then back to the page. after i replaced it with an older version, loads them up fine. troubleshooting this mame issue is far from over. all the roms show up by filename and not by title name.

Well through a quick trial and error i have figured out the mame problem. when selected under emulators and not the main screen, my roms are displayed.

Greetings once again. last time i was on here i was way more angry at life and probably twice as rude. moving to Texas has helped with my patience and overall mood. but regardless i am having issues with gameex on my media center and this time around i will be a bit nicer. Integration with WMC has made this very easy but two issues: playstation 1 games are showing up in playstation 2 game list. pcsx2 is loading the ps2 games correctly when launched outside of gameex. i triple-checked the directories, they are assigned correctly. I have even renamed the default "C:\Roms\Playstation 2\roms" to "C:\Roms\PS2\roms" (Since ps1 roms are in "C:L\Roms\Playstation\Roms") to see if it would fix things. to which it has not. and i am certain i did not select the wrong emulator as pcsx2 pops up and says it cannot load the game. The other issue is that none of my mame roms are showing at all. zip zilch nada. I made sure to change the rom directory from the demo to "C:\Roms\Mame\Roms" and it is almost like it refuses to search that specific directory. As history has proven to me, im still going to tinker with it more and see if removing and possibly trying different emulators might fix my issue, but it appears to me that gameex is not searching the directories i am specifying. Any help would be greatly appreciated. GameEx.ini log.txt LogArtWorkDownload.txt

*update* finished figuring out the artwork downloader. for some reason the default values from the downloader use underscores (eg sega_genisis) but the default paths dont have the underscore, and so i have had to manually link them to get them to show up. at first i thought it wasnt downloading correctly, but it seems that is not the case. at this point in time i think it is good enough to finish up and ship out. thanks for all the help.

i meant fceux. not fce ultra. didnt know there was a difference until i had to look it up. and yes the problem did persist when running the last game option. virtuanes seems to work a ton better. So no lost blood. I now seem to remember the troubles i had configuring gameex the 1st and 2nd time around. its funny how human nature will do that to you. at first i didnt remember all the troubleshooting and tinkering i had to do to get it to work...until i had to go do it this time around. now i am onto another conundrum. i have all the emulators working consistently and game ex simplified and working to my style. the only problem im running into now is the game artwork downloader is downloading images, but is not showing up. not going to lie kinda confused as to why its not working. as of right now i see all the NES pictures downloaded, and the way i have it set up is to show a screenshot to correspond with the game. but nothing is showing up, like its in the wrong folder or something. i will troubleshoot some more tonight. *edit* i will also note that mame had the artwork downloaded successfully but the other emulators did not.
-
As for debugging those emulators, i have already uninstalled them and removed them from the list. If you really want me to install them again just so you can make a better product i can give it another go, its just extra work i wasnt planning on. just let me know. i forgot to mention one other problem i ran into. fceultra would work fine in a windowed mode, but when put in full screen it would invert the colors. I dont believe its a problem with the integrated video as it has been stress tested multiple times already with PC-Check 7.06.

*update* after much frustration and procrastination i have been able to get this build functioning. things i have noted Gens+, nestopia, snes9x did not work for me no matter what i did. its unsettling i had the same symptom with all 3 of those even after configuring them seperately outside of gameex. i dont know what tweaking is involved to get them working with gameex, but its not worth my time to worry about it or troubleshoot it any further. i simply replaced with surreal, fusion, virtuanes, and zsnes and i was back up and running. its kind of ironic, on my windows xp build these 3 were the only ones i could get running the way i wanted them to. now on windows 7 and updated emulators+gameex I cant even get them to function. one thing that i found frustrating was something noted by another person on this forum over fusion. the -scd tag is added in the field for 32x games which causes them not to run and automatically loads the segacd screen...if i wanted to load a segacd i would configure a segacd emulator *not* a sega 32x emulator...this is something on gameex not the individual emulators. another thing i noted was the x-arcade sticks no likey no keyboard attached on windows 7. i have been able to get it to work on windows xp without the keyboard added but x-arcade states it should not be functioning at all without one. to clarify i have a generation 1 x-arcade tankstick. regardless i will have to change the flippers to save state/load state buttons.

thanks for the help. just really getting frustrated with this software. i mean gameex has its wizard to install emulators into a default directory(C:\emulators). and wants to seperate the emu's default rom directory to another directory (C:\roms), im fine with this. what im not fine with is when it doesnt bloody WORK! >_< roms show up in gameex, yet refuse to play. yet launching the emulator seperately plays the roms just fine. i mean my setup is as simple as it gets and the wizard messed up the configuration or folder structure? I'm going to try messing around with the gameex.ini file and fix what this turd wizard screwed up.
-
anyone want to join the chat and help me figure out the configuration side of this?
-
I used the configuration wizard to install the default directories for the emulators and the roms. for some unknown reason the X-arcade sticks are not working. The X-arcade sticks are pretty old and the connector from them to the computer is a ps/2 connector. on previous versions of gameex i never had to map keys. Also the emulators are not launching correctly. its finding the roms and continually tries to download artwork from emumovies after i made an account. but when i select a rom and launch it, it fades out only to come back to the menu screen. this is happening with ALL roms. mame roms are also shown as their file names and not the correct title either. I dont remember having all these problems before. I remember on the previous gameex it was 20x easier. it was like everything worked out of the box. Also i have seen this screenshot on the main page. how do i set up gameex to show the lists in this fashion? http://www.gameex.com/Portals/0/images//34.jpg going through the list is really annoying with the joystick.

this looks promising. i am anxious to try it out. -
yeah when i read this i was like dang, worst case scenario hit.

I did try gameex with the intel atom 330. at lowest resolution 200x???? it was laggy still. and thats not even running an emulator, that was just navigating through gameex's menu! either/or i will repurpose or sell this intel atom board. if i have to sacrifice visual appearance it wont appeal to my intended audience (anti-technology sister and brother-in-law). im fairly certain that jukebox software is nowhere close to hardware intensive. i guess i need to find a touchscreen monitor. only way to find out is to try.
-
im not sure if the atom will make a great jukebox or not.
