  1. Good news. I got GameEx working. Bad news, technology has made me look like a boob again. While I had checked to make sure Windows and GameEx was up to date after nullPointer's help I double checked. And while everything still showed no problems when I told Windows to check for updates it said automatic updates were turned off. They weren't, but when I did turn them off my anti-virus software (AVG), popped up saying it needed to restart to update. After that Windows could update, and there were quite a few, and then flash wanted to update. Apparently they were all holding each other back but telling me all was fine. I don't know if this will help anyone else but thanks for your suggestion nullPointer.
  2. Hello, I'm not sure what I did but GameEx will not start up. It drops back to Windows before I see anything (black screen) with an error message (included as attachment). I was trying to get Visual Pinball to work and was working with the wizard. I tried to get GameEx to launch pinball tables and was very close when I had to take a break. After a week or so I came back, fired up my cabinet and GameEx and started receiving this error. I don't think I did anything in between with the computer or Windows. I manually updated to the latest version and I've attached my log and ini file. As always your help is appreciated, sty151 GameEx.ini log.txt Windows Error Message.txt
  3. Yes, everything else - videos, music and games play as they should.
  4. I did a search in the setup program and the only place that VMR9 was found was once and it was an option "Use VMR9/EVR" and I have it set to "Yes". Are you asking me to use a text editor and change my ini file? I'll help anyway I can but my technical ability falls off a cliff pretty quickly (but I should be able to handle a text editor).
  5. I edited and added more information; didn't do a very good job the first time (late at night for me). Unfortunately GameEx crashed when trying to play a karaoke file. Still got a preview with audio and video and when I clicked a song the screen went black and maybe 10 seconds went by then Windows error message window came up. I'll attach the log and here's what Window's said (let me know if I can do anything else): log.txt
  6. I found two boxes that say "Use Microsoft Video Mixing Renderer 9" both were unchecked on both of the machines I'm running GameEx on. I checked them both on both machines and now they are both doing the same thing which is that it will play the video preview of the song with both sound and video but when you select it, GameEx comes right back to the list of songs. Additionally, the sound after this fades out on the preview and does not come back even if you hover over a different song. I also checked Karaoke for DirectX properties again and found that the boxes were unchecked. Now that I'm at work I installed Karaoke for DirectX on this machine and both VMR9 boxes are checked by default. Let me know if I can test anything else or send in a log.
  7. Well it sounds like everything is groovy. Thanks everyone for your advice/help. I would have changed the title to "resolved", and still can, but my thinkging was I was asking questions rather than reporting an issue.
  8. Hello, thought I'd report back. I got a mixed bag. First good news, I was able to combine the PC games that don't require a CD/DVD along with the ones that do without setting up a separate emulator for each game that required a CD like nullPointer thought. All of the games I checked had a file called setup.ini on the disk. Now I only checked 4 commercial games but they range from 2-9 years old. Second I added 1002 to my group and Steam was not included. It was still a separate emulator. Oh, and for the games that require a CD, GameEx didn't say anything when I started the game without the disk. Just went black. Once I put a disk in it worked. Am I supposed to include the instructions? The wizard help button made it sound like something would be displayed.
  9. Thanks, I'll play around with custom menus. There's so many features and ways to customize GameEx. I wonder how many other cool things I'm missing. If I can't put all the games in one place I'll put in a request for a number for Steam like 0 for MAME or 1000 for Daphne to use in Emulator Groups in the wizard.
  10. Hello, I've recently tried to get my cabinet back up to date and have to say all the things done to/with GameEx is exciting. Couple of quick questions: I've added my Steam games and they look great. Is there a way to group them with another emulator (I would like to group them with my PC/Windows games). I've got a PC game that requires the disk to be in the drive to play. I found the option to check for CD but what file do most of you use? And after setting it to look for the autorun file on the cd now all games look for that. Am I supposed to set up a separate emulator for each game that requries physical media in the drive and then group them with the other games? Just looking to see what others have done. I set up a free account at EmuMovies and told GameEx to auto download art. I haven't really noticed a difference. I had artwork before. Does it only add artwork if none was there before or does it overwrite or put it in a new directory? Thanks in advance for your advice/knowledge. Let me know if I need to submit any of this as a request or if I need to clarify anything. And of course I want to say what a great piece of software GameEx is.
  11. Okay I played with karaoke a little on several machines and this is what I found. On a fresh machine with no GameEx or Karaoke for DirectX, I installed Karaoke for DirectX and tried to play one of my .cdg+ files and got this error "Windows cannot access the specified device, path, or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item.". I checked permissions they were fine so I downloaded a couple of public domain karaoke files and got the same error. After I opened the files with Windows Media Player they played without the error. On another machine I built to be HTPC (but the family only uses it to watch Netflix) I tried karaoke through GameEx and when I hovered over a song, like my arcade cabinet, it showed and I could hear it, like it's supposed to. When I picked a song the screen went black and 30-60 seconds went by then I could hear the music but not see the words/graphics. When I pushed the exit (right mouse button) my desktop came up and GameEx was minimized. I was able to click on it and bring it back up no problem. The only thing I could think of that is similar for both of these systems is that they both have AVG anti-virus software, use AMD processors and video cards (with drivers and catalyst display) and the karaoke files themselves. On one machine I have a vanilla ffdshow and Haali Media Splitter and the other is Shark's Codec Pack (which I think includes ffdshow and Haali Media Splitter). I've included the log and ini from the new machine. Hope this helps. log.txt GameEx.ini
  12. Howdy, I don't know how much this will help but I've had all my MAME and Daphne games together under a single group called "Arcade" located on the start page for a while now. The thing is that I did it quite a long time ago before I used the wizard setup tool. I remember using something that isn't included with the newer versions of GameEx. It was a text document and you listed which emulators to combine and which games to list. I can't find it now and the odd thing is it still works but the setup is not in the wizard under emulator groups. If someone can help jog my memory as to what/where this grouping setup is located I could post a copy.
  13. Thank you, I'll do a search to see if there's another way to play karaoke in GameEx. But I was curious about other people playing karaoke files outside of GameEx. I found it odd that after installing Karaoke for DirectX (through GameEx but I've also found its webpage and the download on SourceForge) I couldn't just double click on the file in Windows. I had to associate .cdg files with WMP. My problems are usually something I did wrong so I'm trying to make sure I'm not the kid doing his own thing.
  14. Thanks to both you and Draco1962 for looking into this for us. I always seem to get the weird bugs. If there's something else I can do please let me know. I'd like to test my machine. Just to make sure I'm with everyone else can someone else tell me how they play .cdg+.mp3 files without GameEx. To get them to play I unzipped the two files and "open with" Windows Media Player the .cdg file. Am I supposed to open with a different program?
  15. Yes, my Z: drive is a network share. But I also moved a copy of my karaoke files to my desktop and reset GameEx to look there and got the same problem. Let me know if you'd like a log file of that as well.
  16. Here you go. log.txt GameEx.ini
  17. I updated to 12.83 last night and still had the same issue. The karaoke plays audio and video during the preview when I hover over a file's name but when I pick one it stops, goes to a blank screen, as if it's about to start, and then instantly goes back to the list of karaoke files as if I’d exited. Even makes the sound. Let me know if I can do anything else.
  18. I upgraded to the latest version (12.80 at the time) which I thought included the fix Tom provided in this thread. I am still having the same issues. I can try the zip file provided by Tom if you think it will help.
  19. Thanks for the help. I didn't mean to sound pushy. I attached an older version of my log file. Here's the most recent with 12.80. All I did was try to play several karaoke files and then exited. I checked the file path and it is a networked drive. But I also moved my karaoke files to my C drive and changed the path and got the same results. Let me know if I can do anything else. log.txt
  20. Howdy, I hope you don't mind the bump but I'm still having problems with karaoke. I hate to exit GameEx to play my karaoke files. Is there another way to play karaoke in GameEx? Possibly another free third party program someone’s tested.
  21. I'm also having problems with karaoke. I uninstalled karaoke for DX, reinstalled it etc. and I was finally able to get karaoke to play outside of GameEx by unzipping the files (mp3 + cdg) and associating the cdg file with WMP. On my W7 32-bit arcade cab in GameEx I get the same results when I try to play a zipped or unzipped karaoke files as tjpietro. I put GameEx on another computer (W7 64-bit) and when I play karaoke on that one it goes to a blank screen and when escape is pressed it goes to desktop with GameEx minimized. Odd thing is on both machines the karaoke files play during the preview in GameEx. Just saw the post and wanted to help; I'll post my ini and log when I get home. Here's my log and ini. Please let me know if I can help in any way. log.txt GameEx.ini
  22. I would like to request that previews for karaoke be independently controllable from video previews. I asked about this in the general forum but found out it is not yet incorporated in GameEx. Here's a quote to help jog the memory. Thanks again for a great program and thanks for all the improvements. Audio would be fine, as would the ability to turn off previews entirely from karaoke. Chaos Tiki's idea also sounds nice. But I'm not picky, whatever is easier. It's just a little distracting to try to find your song when random songs suddenly blare out at you while you scroll through the list. Sounds like this is a feature request. Is there a way to move this post or should I just add a new reply to the feature request topic?

  24. Hello, Is there a way to control the preview aspect (turn it on or off) of karaoke independently from the global setting (for videos, etc.)? I would like to turn it off but leave it on for my videos. If there isn't I'll move this to the feature request section.
  25. Thanks for the reply. It wasn't the codec pack. I uninstalled ffdshow and haali media splitter and installed Shark007. I also reinstalled GameEx with default settings and pointing to my files; no luck. I finally had to uninstall and reinstall my audio driver (VIA HD Audio). Just uninstalling it fixed it but I figured I should install the audio driver, I assume they make it for a reason. Maybe this will help someone else.
