  1. Yeah, I can kinda see what you mean by keeping pics together. I just strongly disagree. :] Instead I would suggest that people link to their controlpanel pics here, from their original "show your cab" post. That way we "keep it clean", keep it relevant, _and_ make it userfriendly for new users. How about that? :] In fact, I'll go do that right now. (btw in the top right corner of the post, theres a direct link that jumps directly to your pots "Post #15") And as I said, no offense taken. The Mag-Stik Plus from Ultimarc is modded to be switchable from the top of the cpanel (lift and twist), where the T-Stik can only be switched by flipping a little white switch on the joystick base inside the controlpanel. Not very handy. :] I currently have a Mag-Stik Plus for player one and T-Stiks for player 2, 3 and 4. They look and feel exactly the same. And most multiplayer games needing a 4-way setting are so old, that you can't play two simultaniously.
  2. Well, I didn't take offense. I was just flabbergasted by someone (anyone) thinking that it wasn't relevant to this topic. Personally I think there's way too few pics, because when I started out building my cab, I relied on inspiration from pics. Restricting pics _only_ to one thread means that people only will post pics of a full cab, and not specifics like this. Just my two cents...
  3. "Keep the site clean"? Listen... if you can't post pics of custom built control panels in a thread about custom built control panels... then I don't see any reason for posting at all. That's a ludicrous restriction... When I said "lets see some pics", it was implied that the pics should be relevant to this topic.
  4. Try setting the following settings under "Advanced Mame Settings" to blank: Catver ini location Nplayers ini location History dat location MAMEinfo dat location Controls ini location You can also try disabling "Use Game Filter" and set "Verify roms" to "No". Generally, there's a lot of tweakable stuff in there, so try some different changes until you get it working. First though, I'd suggest you disable the verify feature. :]
  5. Lets see some pics everyone. :]
  6. I bought the following from a german webshop (arcadeshop.de). 1x I-Pac4 4x T-Stik A load of High Quality Pushbuttons, enough for 7 buttons each, plus coin + player start buttons and 4 navigation buttons (Enter, Escape, Page Up, Page Down) I later bought a Mag-Stik Plus for player 1 from Ultimarc, which is the same model as the T-Stik, only it's modded to switch between 4/8-way from the top. Here's a couple of pics.
  7. Do you have anything launching at startup defined in GameEx config? A startup video or something? Have you changed anything on the computer just before it started behaving like this, like updating drivers, codecs, software, etc? You could try a system restore, if you're running Windows XP. If it doesn't help, you can always go back the setting you restored from. Also, try posting the log, as Tom requested.
  8. Well, you can just download the latest installer from the website, and save it on a USB stick for example. Then pop it in your mame cab pc, and run it. I know the installer has options for downloading themes and stuff online, but I'll admit I haven't tried installing GameEx without internet access. So I don't know if it's required.
  9. Well if that's the case, I believe he just needs to get the 'hiscore.dat' and put it in his Mame+ folder, and create a 'hi' folder, if its not already there. I think I vaguely remember, that the highscore's got taken out of the Mame build in version 0.113. Could be wrong though, and I don't know if or how Mame+ handles highscores.
  10. 1. You go here and download the Mame v0.119 binary. Then extract it to a folder. 2. You go here for the latest HoffMame v0.119 patch. Then extract it to the same folder. 3. Then you run 'APPLYPATCH.bat'. 4. Create a Folder in the same directory, simply called "hi". 5 Find the latest version of 'hiscore.dat' somewhere on the net and copy it into your Mame folder. Voila. Now all you have to do, is change "Working path" and the "Command line" in the GameEx configuration, and you're set.
  11. Good stuff.
  12. Hooray, long live google. http://www.google.com/search?num=100&n...&q=HoffMame
  13. Good idea. While replying on that topic, I thought it was a shame to "litter" the post with off topic entries, so I think it's a perfect solution.
  14. I had the opportunity to apply the HoffMame today, works great. Looking forward to the Googlable feature.
  15. Yeah, you still have a little flickering going on, not too bad though. I've seen worse. When we have some spare time on our hands, we'll look into making a video, one way or another. Nice guide btw., we've considered adding LED's to our controlpanel as well, and your setup looks pretty sweet.
  16. Well, I guess you're right. We could fake it by softwarecapturing the menus in GameEx and the gameplay, and cut back and forth between that footage and recording of the controlpanel in use. I'll have to run the idea by Tommy, he's the one with the editing skills.
  17. Teehehe.. you forgot "Patch" in there btw.
  18. Only if you subtitle it "HoffMame: Vanilla Googlable Edition".
  19. Oh yeah, having followed the other post, I knew it was a patch and didn't think twice about it. But newcomers just seeing this post, could get confused. Maybe also a "Patch" in the title would help.
  20. Awesome, I'll give it a try. Can we expect a HoffMame build of future versions too?
  21. My buddy Tommy, one of the guys I've built my Mame cab with, did a video of our machine. We'd love to make a video of our Mame cab in action, but we don't know how to film it without it looking crap. The screen flickers because the camcorder is recording in another sync.

    Mame highscores

Yeah, once it dawned upon me, I had to smack my forehead. I've been active the last year or so in the danish arcade community, and we would call it what it is "the Mame commandline version". I just never came across the "vanilla" abbreviation before. Cool brian, looking forward to it.
  23. Hehe, nice. Who would have thought.

    Mame highscores

Pfft.. Here I'm scratching my head googling "Vanilla Mame", and nothing comes up. But of course you mean the plain original mame commandline version? Vanilla Mame sounds a lot like an official derivative though, especially as I've seen it mentioned in several posts.

    Mame highscores

I think it's time to shed some light on highscores in Mame. I can't imagine running a Mame cab without saving highscores. I've been running Mame v0.106 for about a year, because it was the latest build I could find that supported highscores. But a couple of days ago, jombee suggested Mame32 FX, and sure enough, now I've got the latest Mame build running, with working highscores. Does anyone know if Mame32 FX is the only Mame derivative supporting highscores?
