Wow. I'm glad y'all went through that. I'm nearing completion of my computer and was wondering how I was going to handle the network "lag." Thank you all for your time; I really appreciate it. -Matt -
In GameEx.ini there is a setting for this. It is "OnlyRoms=True." That should do it! -Matt
-
I can't think of any functional reason as to why it wouldn't pick up your ROMS, so I'm assuming there is an invalid path in there somewhere. Go into the configure utility and go through each section and verify that all the paths are correct to your roms and to MAME itself. Also, I would recommend using the normal command-line MAME and/or AdvanceMame. GameEx handles all the frontend stuff, so MAME32 is kinda useless. Make sure that if you do use AdvanceMame, remember to change the ROM path in GameEx's command for it. Like this: UseAdvanceMAME=True AdvanceMAMEExe=advmame.exe AdvanceMAMEPAth=C:\Games\AdvanceMame AdvanceMameOptions=-device_video_output fullscreen -quiet -dir_rom C:\games\roms\mame (This is an excerpt from gameex.ini) If that doesn't work, maybe try changing some of the filtering options just to see if games pop up. Maybe: OnlyWorking=False, AllowImperfect=True,GameFilteron=False etc. I dunno. I think its probably just a simple -but overlooked- path issue. Good Luck! -Matt

Mostly for the escape button, but also for the mouse functionality. Mame works great, its some of the other emulators that need the extra help. -Matt
-
Very nice. I'm not so keen on the whole "flowery" thing , but very nice. And by the way... my girl really enjoys GameEx. She's been playing more often than I for the last couple weeks. Nice job, and thank you Antony. -Matt

Until I can save up enough money to build a full cab, I am using an XBox controller. I added a usb pigtail and use XBCD along with joytokey to control it. I have the comp attached to the TV in my living room and it works great; especially with joytokey's mouse emulation for PC apps. I'm gonna hack up another controller this coming week so that I can get some good two-player action going! -Matt

Here is another great project in the works. Budda's LED Controller This might be an option once they get the driver finalized. Imagine, full control over all the lighting (And possibly color!!!) of your buttons. I'm not sure what it might entail to make it work with GameEx, but I do know that I'm going to see what I can make it do with MAME! -Matt

Actually, the way I stumbled upon GameEx was as I was looking into MythTv and Knoppix as game frontends. If it were stable and offered most of the functionality of the windows version of GameEx, I would most definitely use it. I also have the problem that there seems to be a lack of good emulators for some systems. I really like the fact that I can put just about everything into GameEx under a windows environment. And while it has nothing to do with GamEx itself, this lack of third-party software would really affect my decision to move to a linux platform. -Matt

WooHoo! Thanks Tom!! -Matt

I was just thinking the same thing. It would open up a lot of options for custom skinning this app. Great work, by the way, Tom. I haven't had this much fun in a long time. -Matt

Oh, while we're on the subject... Would it posisble to recognize .m2v extensions in the video list? Thanks, Matt
-
Alrighty....... So, I didn't figure it out until I saw the log... GameEx was creating a duplicate entry for all videos with the .mpeg class. I changed all of them to .mpg and all is well. Sorry to worry you. I guess it was duplicating the same files every time. Thanks anyhoo! -Matt
-
All videos are in one folder at c:\videos\music. They used to be on a mapped drive at z:\videos\music. GameEx only has one path, so there shouldn't be any duplicates because of that. I do have the newest version of .net. I have 516 music videos in that folder, but around 590-600 show up in the list. I am really confused. -Matt
-
Ok, I've had this problem for a while: When I enter the video section, my list shows duplicate entries for about 1/5 of my videos. At first I thought it had something to do with my videos being on a networked drive, but I've almost finished my new computer and have transfered the majority of the videos to the c drive. It's still the same. Different duplicates every time the list is refreshed. Any ideas? -Matt

In WinXP, go the the Start Menu -> Run. When the dialog box pops up, type "control userpasswords2" then hit enter. There is a checkbox at the top that says "users must enter user name and password etc," deselect it. It'll ask for a user and password to autologin. Done. No it'll boot straight to windows. While I set up my system, I just throw a shortcut to GameEx into the windows startup folder. Almost seamless, and I can still use windows until I get things the way I want. -Matt

With Znes, really all you have to do is set up the program outside of GameEx, then just point GameEx at the right path. So... 1) Start znes. 2) Use the config menus in the program to set up everything the way you want it. 3) Point GameEx at it: Enabled=True StartPageName=Nintendo SNES Games TitleText=SNES StartPageLogo=snes RomFilter=*.zip RomsInFolders=False ROMPath=C:\Games\Roms\SNES SnapPath=C:\Games\Extras\snap\SNES WorkingPath=C:\Games\Emulators\ZSNES MapKeys=True WaitBeforeKeys= SendKeys= ReplaceDash=False ReplaceUnder=True Capitals=True RemoveBrackets=True AlsoLaunch= ShowDesktop=False Debug=False MapFile= OLDatZip= Command=Zsnesw.exe "[ROMPath]\[RomFile]" Should be it. Let us know if you need some help. -Matt

P64 works great on mine too. And that config is pretty much all there is to it. And although this may not be the place to discuss it, perhaps we should concentrate on setting up P64 now that you have GameEx going. They do seem to have quite a lot of activity on their forum, maybe some of your answers are there? Does Project64 run okay on its own, without running GameEx first? -Matt
-
There is an option in GameEx for debug. Go to the configuration utility (In "more apps" etc.) then find where you have your emulator set up. There will be a line like "emu_x debug mode." Turn it off. This should get you started. Check the user submitted configs in this forum for your N64 emulator. I have it running fine with Project64, so if you still have problems I'll try to play with it tomorrow and give you a reply back. Good luck! -Matt
-
In the emulator configuration, turn off the debug option. That should get rid of windows and should get rid of the dos prompt. The emulator should work no matter what, so you may need to tweak a bit to get things running. -Matt

Again, thank you Tom for all your hard work. 1) Playlist and shuffle support for Videos. I use that section primarily for music videos and would love to have jukebox functionality for them. 2) This kinda goes back to a previous question: How does the "no clones" function pick the game to play? Would it be possible to have a sub-group for clones? Like this: All MAME Games List Game Title -----Game Title (US) --------Play Game --------Flyer --------Etc -----Game Title (Japanese) --------Play Game --------Etc. -----Game Title (Rev 36) --------Etc. Or possibly even another button on the Game Info screen that would link to a list of the clones: Play Game Flyer Panel Clones ------Game Title (Rev 1) ------Game Title (Swahili) (Wow, this BB really doesn't like spaces, huh?) - Matt -
Thanks for the info! I've been wondering where to get these. Again, thank you! -Matt
-
I've had the same problems. I had a way to get around it, but I've changed my computer/s around since then. Let me see if I can figure it out again. - Matt
