  1. I haven't even tried V3 themes and there's already V4 in the works?!
  2. The best way to put PC games in GameEx is to create a directory that contains links to the games (.lnk files). Then create an emulator that looks in that directory for "roms" with the .lnk extension. There are 2 ways to clean up the list so it looks nice. 1) Name the link what you want to see displayed so instead of "mk2.lnk" call it "Mortal Kombat II.lnk". 2) Create a Map file that associates a rom name to a pretty name. Search for Map file on the forum and you should find at least one good thread. I remember one from 3 or 4 months back that had some nice examples. There should be quite a few map files you can examine in the GameEx directory structure as well. As for other games, there are quite a few non-arcade games listed in this thread.
  3. Post your CPWizard log file with it crashing.
  4. It should be included in the main download. You should see it in the plugin manager. Here's the thread where HK releases info about it.
  5. Whoops. Sorry about that. I guess I figured you knew what the controls were in GameEx through experimentation if nothing else. Here's the link if anyone else reads this down the road.
  6. Yup, that's one of the choices. You only need a keyboard if...well, you need a keyboard. I don't know what you plan on doing, but GameEx doesn't require a keyboard to work. It's designed to work in an arcade cabinet seamlessly without needing any external controls.
  7. There used to be a tool called mp3-wolf that was designed to search the internet by following web page links and return a list of mp3 files in a nice sorted selectable interface. You could then click and download any or all of the files in a single step. As I recall, the company also made a few other ones like FTP-wolf, file-wolf, etc. The one that applies here is file-wolf. With that tool, you would be able to tell it to search a web site for all files matching a criteria and download them in one fail swoop. The down side is that they would be unsorted. So, you aren't really any better off if you could even find the software. I found a link that contains a list of the programs that are still available AFAIK... link or in English
  8. Yeah, no problem. If you replace the shell application with GameEx, you won't see windows. If you exit GameEx without shutting down, you will see the background (set to black) and nothing more. If you then hit ctl-alt-del and start a new process of explorer, you will be back in windows. You can then do anything you would have done booting it up normally.
  9. You can change what buttons you have assigned to functions in CPWizard. As I recall, there's a back button that can be set to quit. I have back set as button 2 on my cab (the same as I use to cancel in GameEx), so when I hit that, it exits CPWizard. MAME is still paused, but just unpausing works fine. I haven't experienced any crashes with it.
  10. I don't use either, but the LCD/LED plugin is supposed to work better than the speech plugin these days.

  12. In that case, you might consider getting one that's a combination remote control and mouse. Gyration makes a couple to choose from.
  13. As was said above, it *should* work out of the box. If it doesn't, then it probably means that a custom setup has been applied to the controller. That's not a problem, but it does mean that you will need to use custom inputs in GameEx. Go to the Setup Wizard then use search to find "custom input". Once you are done setting things up the way you want, make sure to enable "use custom inputs". Also note that GameEx is designed to only accept one button assignment for each input. As a result, your 2 player setup will only allow player 1 to control GameEx. You can get around this with a script to remap keys, but it's not necessary. Get it working first, then ask if you want to do that.
  14. That sounds like something that might be adjustable in the touchscreen software. I could see that as being a common problem that really should be addressed in general, not just for GameEx. But, if it's not possible to fix in drivers, then an option in GameEx could be helpful.
  15. Then you don't need to enable joystick input if you don't want. Like I said, having it on won't interfere with anything, but you simply don't need it.
  16. Yes, but it's a bit more complicated than with XP. In XP, you can simply shell out the machine using InstantSheller. In Vista, you will have to go through and edit stuff in the registry. If you do that, then the machine won't start up Windows, it will use GameEx instead. The alternative is to just put GameEx in the startup folder. This will give you the same effect but won't be quite as slick. Here's a link to the shelling guide on the GameEx homepage. It includes a link to download InstantSheller as well as guides for using it and doing the process manually.
  17. If you want to know what people think about the product, you would be best suited going to a forum that uses them extensively to ask. I don't think anyone here uses the Gyration, but I know for a fact that there are TONS of people who use them and similar devices over at AVSForum. Not trying to get rid of you, just trying to get you a good source for answers. Oh, and I don't know if it will help you or not, but if you are considering a remote with mouse functions built in, RemoteCentral is the premier site on the net dealing with remote controls.
  18. Isn't the X-Arcade based on a keyboard encoder? If so, then you don't need to enable joystick inputs in GameEx. Having it turned on won't hurt anything, but I don't think it will help either.
  19. I forgot about that. Yeah, someone did put together a nice FAQ for CPWizard. As I recall, is effort helped clean up a lot of little things about CPWizard in the process.
  20. I think Tom was thinking the databases could contain that data and GameEx would just pull the data from there. I don't think downloading all the FAQ will be required, but nothing is set yet. I'm sure there will be a need to get all the FAQ's for the databases, but I suspect it will be done via the scraping program HK put together. The hard part will be figuring out a way to keep only the best FAQ for each game. Most of thet time there are several for each game. In some cases there's even several versions of the same FAQ (by the same person). Maybe the best way would be to download all FAQs and just list them all in GameEx. This increases the database size, but it would be more flexible.
  21. Whatever you do, just be careful. It's easy to get codecs messed up and harder to get them working again. I highly recommend against installing a bunch of different packs all at once. This can REALLY mess things up to a point where a format may be easier than fixing them.
  22. HK or another user would be better to answer this, but I'll give it a shot. You need to change the settings so that the panel you designed is used instead of the default one. The default for MAME is named mame.xml. If you want to use a different one, just change the setting to yours (clair.xml). Alternately, you can delete the default one and rename yours to mame.xml, but if you do that be sure to make a backup. When you install a new version of CPWizard, it will overwrite your custom one.
  23. setup wizard -> search -> type "filter" and hit enter -> select any appropriate looking page(s) and you should find it pretty quickly. I don't have GameEx installed on this machine or I could have given the exact page name. Please note that there are 2 setup programs. 1) Advanced Config 2) Setup Wizard
  24. The easiest way to find settings in GameEx is to use the setup wizard and use the search feature.
  25. You need to adjust your filter settings. You probably have it set to not filter anything. You can't easily get all games in a single list. There are ways around it, but they are a bit complicated.
