  1. Turn on Alpha paging. Then you can hold down the paging button and it will scroll by page with left/right and first letter with up/down. If you really want it to be *just* left/right for this rather than holding the button and left/right, you could put together a AHK script that would intercept commands if the right window is open (GameEx is in the title). I personally think this might cause some unexpected results, so I wouldn't.
  2. My first guess would be that the new input system that they started in v0.118 is causing this. I hope not since I have a pair of guns I DEFINITELY want to keep using when I get around to upgrading to v0.119.
  3. I did this with my racing cab, but I haven't figured out a way to get the coin reject buttons to trigger my microswitch and NOT stick down. I'm just using industrial double sided tape, so if you fix the switch better, it should work great!
  4. It's possible that your video codec is launching something to the system tray. If so, it will steal focus from GameEx without you knowing it's doing it. As I recall, if you get the official version of the Divx codec it will do this (someone correct me if I'm wrong). There is another version out there that doesn't have the system tray icon and will not do this.
  5. I don't know about the source of your DX9 installer, but you can always get the real version from MS here. It does require you have the stupid windows validation software installed, so perhaps if you have another source, that would be better.
  6. Yeah, as far as I know (and this is how I took it) he was asking about the Advanced Config files in the EMULATORS directory that allow for remapping and exit combo setting and such. There are other ways to accomplish this same stuff with MAME directly, so there is no NEED for this, but it would be a bit more consistent to have it there. Alternately, it might be nice to add to the config help page that there is no MAME file since all settings can be done in MAME directly.

    Alpha Paging

Correct. Alpha paging is when you use the paging button and hit up or down. Jumping to a specific start letter is a "feature" that is always enabled. I find that it doesn't work with every button though. Not sure why, but that's the way it is. An alternative is to set up your controls with non-alphanumeric characters such as , . / ; ' [ ] \ ` etc.
  8. This was discussed recently. I think the resolution was that Tom was going to change the coin keys a little so that it wouldn't have to be 5 or 6. However, at the moment I don't think that's been incorporated. Thus, for me anyway, I have to keep the keyboard handy if I see a game I want to play in attract mode. I think it would also be possible to use AHK, AI, or XPadder to send whatever button you press and keyboard 5 so that GameEx sees it correctly. This is not an ideal solution, but it is all I can think of ATM.
  9. I've asked about this in the past and got no response. I tried creating an advanced config file and naming it MAME, but it did not seem to work. I guess that means that it is not supported.
  10. I didn't know GameEx could generate the CatVer.ini file. I usually just go and download the most current one anyway, but this might be a lot easier.

    beta db's

That will zip down to about 300kb
  12. An arcade track ball is nearly the same thing as a standard computer mouse (or track ball). The only difference is the size of the ball and the orientation of where the rollers are. A mouse NEVER has any kind of lubrication...

  14. I think the set I got was based on the NoIntro rom list. It has other countries, but I think it's paired down to single copies. I haven't checked that closely though.
  15. I think most people were using XPadder to convert joystick presses to key presses and configuring NullDC to use the keyboard input.
  16. Sorry, the language difference is not helping here, but I'll give a crack at answering anyway. The basic steps for getting zinc going are: 1) extract the zinc executable files to a directory (e.g., c:\emu\zinc) 2) extract the zinc support files to the zinc directory 3) launch zinc and configure the general options (where the roms are located, etc.) and each rom one at a time (controls, video settings, etc). This may require using a separate plugin if you are using joysticks (winterblast) 4) Test each rom you want to play through the zinc launcher 5) When all desired roms are working with zinc on it's own, turn on zinc in GameEx These are general steps and can either be cleared up here or in one of the many zinc tutorials either here or elsewhere on the web. Hope this points you in the right direction at least.
  17. Typically you don't want to use any lubrication! In arcades, lubricant was/is often added to increase the life of steering wheels when the bearings are worn out (for example). The result is that the steering wheel sorta works correctly but it's still sloppy and crap starts to build up in the lubricant. This will destroy the bearings even more, compounding the problem. If you insist on adding lubricant (DON'T), use a lithium based product. This is the product I was recommended by an arcade tech after he gave me the same speach about NOT using them.
  18. Ahh, I forgot you could do that

    Alpha Paging

I've had this problem when I used a custom config for my keyboard with the games list actually. I had asdf set up as my 4 action keys and when I used d, it would page to the first game starting with d. My resolution was not to use alpha keys and instead use characters. So for instance, I changed d to ; and everything was fine.
  20. Seems like a valid question as long as he doesn't ask where to get them or if someone will give them to him. Anyway, Brian is right. You can check the good sets dat files for everything ever made for a given system. It does get overwhelming really quickly though!
  21. Although you probably already know, you have to get zinc configured outside of GameEx and working prior to incorporating it into the front end. There are a number of tools that you can use to get it working, but basically you will have to go through each game manually and setup the controls, video, etc BEFORE you tell GameEx that you want to use zinc. If you keep the roms in the MAME directory, you will want to make sure you tell zinc where the roms are located. I don't have the info in front of me, but this has been covered in GREAT detail earlier this year. Brian, do you know if the zinc writeup was included in the tutorials? As I recall, you were the one helping get it going for one of the newer members early this year.
  22. There is info compiled into MAME which tells it if a game is working or not. So, if a clone is working better than the original, that would be better to use. There is a way to output all of that info to a text file from standard MAME if you want to look at it, but I don't know the command off the top of my head.
  23. Good to hear. Btw, I would DEFINITELY switch over GameEx for your shell rather than booting in the way you described above! It performs much better and eliminates several problems I was running into that you may or may not find.

    Alpha Paging

Are you saying that when you turn off alpha paging and navigate normally in your music that it still skips to the next letter? Or, are you pushing the alpha paging button and then it pages to the next letter? I'm not sure I understand the question.

    GameEx Crash

I've tried a couple other themes and still get the array out of bounds error. I've tried fixing the error manually (by editting the GameEx.ini file to fix the two fields that are out of bounds and it fixes it for that startup, but it's not permanent. Any thoughts?
