  1. So the HI folder contains the files listing the high scores so MAME can grab them each launch and save them on close? I haven't used it, but that would be my next guess. Am I getting close
  2. Am I the only one who sees this stuttering outside of GameEx in Windows?
  3. you have to create the "hi" directory and add in the hiscore.dat file to it as I recall. I haven't actually used the hiscore data with vanilla mame before (or any other version for that matter), but that's the way it's supposed to work.
  4. CRAP! Now I've got to try that one cause it sounds perfect My intent was initially to make this something I could incorporate in to GameEx, so the problem I had been having is how to get these backups to launch with a button click. Tom's has a command line syntax that makes that trivial. I should have checked here first
  5. Those tools can backup files based on filters to another computer on a network automatically/with the click of a single button? I've seen those file managers before, but they didn't seem to do things automatically. Basically, I just don't want to think about it, I just want to download the new set from PD and go to my cabinet and click update. I will have to install the new MAME emulator, but that can be done via terminal services, so I really just wanted something to take care of copying the roms/chds/extras automatically. Still haven't figured out what to do with the Neo Geo bezels yet.
  6. I've actually experienced this with my dual core 4600+ machine and it has 2GB of memory. I was playing the video in mediaplayer classic with nothing else running. I suspect there is a codec issue here, so I haven't put the videos in the cab yet. I want it to work on it's own first!
  7. I ended up choosing SyncBack since the built in MS Briefcase is a folder and I didn't want it to show up that way. I set up a backup for the roms, chds, and artwork. Since over half of the chds (in terms of GB) are rhythm type games and my current hard drive was way too small for all of them, I set up some exclusion rules to not backup those files. I hooked up a long cat5 cable and let her rip! I was originally thinking it would only need to download a few files, but due to the way I originally transfered the files, they had the wrong dates, so it ended up doing everything. I do have one question that has just popped up with the new artwork though. I may have to create a new thread for it, but I noticed that the Neo Geo games now have a bezel art that shrinks the screen significantly. My 27" TV displays about 19" game play. Any thoughts on how to turn off bezel art for specific games/bios? I guess I could just put an exclusion rule in for it as well, but I was wondering if there were any other concepts?
  8. Yup, there it is!
  9. Just wanted to report back that as I suspected, the new changes to my startup script to turn the TV on at the right time was stealing focus. I reverted back to an older version of my script and everything is fine.
  10. Yeah, if MAME32 is the same version number as MAME, you will be getting the same core with some extra front end stuff. Basically it is EXACTLY the same engine with a little flash for Windows users to help in picking games.
  11. In the advanced config menu, there is an option in display (as I recall) for font size.
  12. Wouldn't it be easier at some point to just order new speakers from happs or BobRoberts or just buy some cheap speakers from a local car audio shop? I hope those magnets work, but speakers for an arcade aren't exactly put under high demand even if you are playing music...
  13. "GameEx -quick" is GameEx with the switch to skip some of the bootup stuff.
  14. Thanks for the time! Just curious if you will be keeping up with the web site or if it will be on the back burner as well? Either way, good luck with everything!
  15. I dissabled everything in there and it's still minimizing. Funny thing is that it hasn't been a problem until just recently. I'm guessing it has to do with my script that turns on the TV once GameEx is started up. I'll probably just have to add a line in there to maximize GameEx rather than switching to it.
  16. I actually did something similar except I was trying to make the categories contain at least 30 and no more than ~1-200. I made a query based on 109 that let me combine categories where needed. I found that there were enough sports games in the main categories (football, baseball, hockey) to justify their own category. The others got grouped to keep a limit on the number of small categories. Your list is grouped just about down to Genre.ini. Looks good... Oh yeah. I just wanted to point out that when I made my list, it was primarily focussed on making the categories descriptive and intuitive enough that if my wife or her younger sisters wanted to play, they could find what they wanted without too much searching. That's why I put the example games in...
  17. I checked my cab and I don't see any codec packs installed. I'm definitely getting minimizing pretty regularly now, so I'll have to see what's starting by default. EDIT: I just checked the msconfig util and found that I had several nvidia utils loading including the tray stuff. I disabled it and will see if that helps.
  18. Interesting. I'm sure he's having fun. I fear he may be out on work
  19. There's no reason you can't use MAME or MAME32 for your installation. I've never tried MAME32 in command line mode, but I'm going to guess that there's no difference in speed between them since it's not loading anything special for just launching the rom over what you get for MAME. Either way, my suggestion would be to try having everything in the default MAME paths for whatever MAME installation you want to try. I don't see any reason why it should be a problem having it split out the way you do, but I would try getting it going with the typical install first and then split stuff out where you want it.
  20. You know, I just had this start and I think the only thing I did was switch to the Blue Snap theme. I don't have any videos loading, but I think there might be some kind of codec initialization or something causing this. I'll try switching to a non snap theme and see if that fixes it.
  21. I spent a lot more than 2 hours on it since I based mine on a MAMEdat database and created new more generalized (genre based) categories. I was intending to be able to update these with new data from updates, but then haven't gotten around to it.
  22. For reference, I'm using vanilla MAME 0.119 and it works fine. Paths and/or missing files are likely the issue.
  23. If you are using one of the codec packs like k-lite, xp-codec-pack or cccp, there are setup tools that come with the package. I couldn't say which one you need to open, but there are options in one of them to rotate and/or flip the video. EDIT: I actually just went through all the menus for CCCP and couldn't find the configuration for flipping the video. I know I've used it with k-lite, but I can't figure out where it would be for this one.
  24. I created one a while back that simplified the 127 categories into ~30-40 that were more manageable. It might give you some ideas. As I recall, my data was based on MAME .109 as well, but I tried to add in what I could find between .109 and .111. I know there have been quite a few roms added since then, but this might provide something useful to look at. CatVer.zip
  25. You can set up GameEx with a default/custom keyboard and default/custum joystick as needed. You don't have to set both up as custom.
