    amp board?

Yeah, there are a number of sites that arcade connoisseurs frequent. The two that I can think of are KLOV and BYOAC. Now, the BYOAC crowd is going to be more aimed at MAME type stuff, but I know a lot of people there have standard cabinets and MAMEs as well. If you can find the KLOV forum, that would be best. Also, there is a newsgroup that is supposed to be REALLY helpful that you might want to check out. Like I said, as long as you don't hook anything you care about up to the thing for testing, you should be fine. I would hook up a walkman or discman up as a source and power it with your best guess (probably 5v or 12v DC). It's unlikely that you will break anything. **************************** OH, I just thought of something! Why not search for the wiring manual for that machine. I have one for my pinball and it tells me EVERYTHING. I found one for my Championship Sprint and it looked very similar. I bet you could find a good reference for that board if you were able to find it. Either search for the game name and manual or the number on the board. If you can find it, you will have all of your questions answered.
  2. My Tivo used to think I was gay. It was recording soap operas and girly shows. I told it I liked the military channel, war movies, and car shows to try and straighten it out. Then it thought I was a war monger and only recorded Nazi era documentaries. Eventually it figured it out, but then my wife started confusing it with soaps again. It probably thinks I need a psychiatrist. ...course I can't really deny that it could be right.

    amp board?

That looks similar to a sound board that I've pulled out of the Atari Championship Sprint for the most part. That board had a ribbon cable connecting to the main board, but I can't remember if the speakers came off the main board or the sound board. Either way, mine didn't have RCA connections. Do the speakers connect to the sound board via the RCA's or via some kind of screw down terminals? I'm just wondering if those are inputs or outputs. If those are the inputs, you could probably get it working with the speakers in the cab and just need to provide the correct power to the board. I personally don't think I would bother though. I was able to use a cheap set of PC speakers for the amp board and connect them to arcade speakers. The board then plugs right into the PC and I know I can't break anything. Only problem is slightly underpowered speakers due to the failure to match impedence (4 vs 6 ohm). If you power it up and it works, I would run with it. If you don't know what power it needs and you don't know if it works, go with PC speakers (or a car amp). That's just my thoughts though.
  4. No, I think he means a check box for the alpha paging button function to be on all the time. meaning that if you press left or right it will automatically go to the next letter without having to hold the alpha/paging button. This would make it impossible to go to the filter selection box (year, category, manufacturer, etc.), though. I personally think the best method would be to set up P2 joystick would be to send the alpha/paging button and the direction. This is really easy to do in XPadder, so I don't see why it's not worth the effort. BTW, P2 controls require mapping anyway unless they are a separate joystick due to how GameEx works.
  5. How does the logitech work with N64? I really want to be able to play some of those games, but without an analog joystick, it's pointless! I really miss MarioKart64
  6. I think what he wants is to use the d-pad and analog sticks work for different tasks. I think the best way to do that would be with either a script or with XPadder. I assume you want to just move the stick to perform the paging rather than holding a button to do it. Correct? GameEx isn't set up to do that, so it will require a little tinkering to get it to work. If you need some help, post exactly what you are trying to do and someone will try to help!

    amp board?

There should be some markings on the board that may help determine what it is. It may also be obvious based on what components are there. I personally wouldn't hook the computer up to it until I knew what it was, and even if I did know, I might do some testing to make sure it wouldn't fry anything. Also, without checking it out, I couldn't say whether it's inputs or outputs (unless you saw it hooked up prior to stripping things down).

    amp board?

3 is a Turkey. I'm not sure about 4 though. 3 seems appropriate though.
  9. You have it backwards. The fact that it's running in a window is why GameEx must have show desktop on. If you get it running in full screen, you won't need show desktop on.

Strike 3? Actually, strike 4 if you count the mass PM attack...

    Edit Mode

I can see this being useful for those that don't obtain complete sets from the start. I'm a freak (like many others here) and obtain the whole set in one fail swoop, so my list would be completely green.
  12. Don't use intro videos, but if I did, this would be something I would try first. Good to see it's already there!

    Post a picture please.

    Intro Screen

Go to Display Settings (1) Set "Don't switch resolution" to "GameEx won't change resolution"
  15. Put those requests in the features request thread. I think the quit startup video by button press would be a good idea especially if you choose the one that shows the whole arcade fly through (~5 minutes as I recall).
  16. You might be able to provide more help if you choose to view the contents of the error report. That's my best guess ATM.

    Intro Screen

Ahhh, then this is definitely a resolution problem, but not one that you can correct with adjusting settings for your video card or TV. GameEx is changing the resolution to something MUCH too large for your TV to display, so it's just displaying the upper left corner. Do you have GameEx set up to not change the resolution? If not, fix that and try again.

    Intro Screen

Is the resolution different for the startup screen and when GameEx is running? Are you using a PC CRT? CRT's have different settings for different resolutions and refresh rates and it's possible that the one you are using when the intro screen is displayed is a different res than either your desktop or what GameEx uses. Try adjusting the screen when it's showing the intro screen. OR....GameEx is AFU!
  19. I can ask my wife. She has meetings with him from time to time (actually, it's usually Balmer...he's a freak!).
  20. PS2 work (don't know about PS3) directly if they have a USB plug. If not, you will need to either hack them or buy a PS to PC adapter from Radio Shack or wherever. 360 work but require an adapter. There may be an issue with them going to sleep, but I don't know anything about that as I haven't used one. There are a lot of opinions on controllers, but if you are going to buy something anyway, you might consider just getting the Logitech Wireless gamepad. I've heard a lot of good things about them. I haven't used one personally, but I use Logitech XBox controllers and have had zero issues with them. VERY nice!
  21. This is too complicated to answer in a single thread without getting things all confused. I suggest you ask one at a time in a separate thread for each major question. Also, search the forum for Freedo and Project64 as I know there were a couple threads that gave good tutorials on these. There's probably a lot of info for MESS and the others as well (I remember discussions on them, but not the outcome).
  22. You could mount an image via the launch before or launch also. Maybe you could even add it to the loader (if you are using one).
  23. A lot of these questions are answered in the FAQ, but: 1) Yes, search for news in the setup wizard. 2) Yes, but...There are only 2 ways to have your menus set up currently. You can either have submenus the way they are, or you can have one flat menu that lists everything. Search the setup wizard for flat menus. 3) I think you would have to have the ISO file mounted so the system recognizes it as a DVD. There may be another way, but I don't use the DVD features. 4) You cannot put roms in subfolders ATM. There is an option in setup that implies it's possible, but it's not. 5) You can only have a single image/video display for each game ATM. If you wait till the video is over, it will switch to one of the images though. The rumor is that V3 themes will allow for multiple images, but nothing has been confirmed by Tom as of yet. 6) You are referring to a loader. GameEx doesn't like loaders, but they are possible. Check the FAQ for more info on how to setup GameEx to work with a loader. If you still have questions, just ask. 7) You can use ANY program with GameEx that can be launched via a command line. It is possible to run other programs, but they are hacks more than anything. As far as which emu for which system...it's personal opinion more than anything. Some people swear by one where others think it's crap and opt for a different one (I think PSX vs. ePSX and Fusion vs. Gens vs. Gens32 are a good examples). 8) Yes, load the setup wizard and under custom select the second one for emulators (the one after pick which emus to use). There will be a set of buttons vertically on the right side. You can select an emu and pick up/down to rearrange manually or select the "A" button to alphabetize the list. If you have any other questions don't hesitate to ask! Again, the FAQ has a lot of good info and was just revised in the last month so it's pretty up to date.
  24. Can't you turn on the "Shut down" option? I don't know if it works in MCE, but if you use that in XP, it will quit GameEx and then shut down the PC.
  25. Perhaps you could post your log file. I doubt it will show anything interesting, but it might be useful. I suspect this has something to do with conflicting codecs. The video codec is trying to play a video with sound and then you try to play another sound. The sound codec (or perhaps the sound hardware) doesn't want to let the second play because it's already in use. I'm not sure if there is a setting for this in the video codec though. My suggestion would be to turn off sound for video snaps ATM.
