[CLOSED COMMUNITY PROJECT] HD System and Controller Images
stigzler replied to stigzler's topic in GameEx Media Projects
Not sure we can be that choosy if looking for HD images. Aesthetically, I always preferred top down angled, but with some systems you're pushed to get that view. Have a look at the examples in the link in the OP. I don't think it matters too much if they're at different angles, doesn't look too bad, introduces variety! The Atari ST was a bit of a bugger (grey on a grey background!) but think the end result is passable.. -
Project pinned coz you guys are the mutt's nuts with this one...

HD System and Controller Images Project Like it says on the tin. Couldn't find this in the GameEx FTP, and with Evo around the corner, we need to also evolve our assets! Project Status: Done Total Systems Percent complete HD System Images 165 248 67 Who's helping: No-one! How to help: If you want to collaborate on this project, message me for access to the collaborative folder. Work to date: HD System and Controller Images Tracking sheet here: Project Tracking Again, email me if you want edit privileges. Guidance on image production: Let's not get into technicalities - just say the bigger (and higher resolution) the better. No upwards limit. Aim for 1080 height as minimum - a little upscaling allowed. Obviously, no 600x400 images up-scaled to 4000x3000 unless you got some mega algorithm that makes them look crisp! Transparency around the outside. Also, tidied edges to any images (no white edges on black units, for example). Just a 2-5 pix inner glow at a matched color would suffice. The image file name must match the system name as per the spreadsheet Very easy way to do it: Use gimp. Use magic wand or lasso tool to select the edges of the system/controller. Invert selection then press delete. Once you've extracted your rough cut, use ScriptFU Layer effects (plugin here) inner glow, 5px, black or matched. That'll tidy the edges. "Why don't you do it all yourself?" Because I'm juggling so many projects and you'll get a warm glow of achievement if you help out and contribute....

My Photobucket Album, Some Decent Artwork To Share.

Nice one, draco. You don't fancy formatting those to GameEx system filenames and uploading them to the shared GoogleDrive, do you? As per details here: http://retrorigs.biz/MagoForums/index.php?topic=9.0 Drop me a bell if you can and I'll set you up a share on GoogleDrive -

I think a set of real images would be best although a vector set would also be good. Whats "MOD"? -

It's for this: https://sites.google.com/view/magoarcade/software/cpwizbiz -

Looks like some really cool stuff there, but agree with Draco - photbucket's a dog's breakfast. Deffo have a think about using google drive. Would also allow you to get into collaborative projects over time.... p.s. Yer not looking for a image project are you ?? -
Isnt he playing all the instruments?
-
I bet he's busy making a space rocket or curing the common cold or something...
-
Ah cool - ta draco. As long as the fella's alright...

Anyone know what happened to nullpointer? Dude was an awesome contributor on here and just curious...

Bloody awesome! only 25 more letters to go! Like the way you're using a naming standard with the icons. I'm going to update my Game, Set and Match app to divorce Click-Once (filthy little cheap trick that it is!). That'll mean you won't have to install it. GSM runs off .dats/.xmls to get the game names and thus produce full icon/image sets. Hopefully it may come in handy to you guys. It'd be great if others could be persuaded to help. It only takes a few of you working at it to get through some of the daunting task ahead. You';d then be reknowned as the guys that did the non-mame icon sets!
-
Glad you got it sorted. Totally baffling... I wonder if two displays were enabled in your mame.ini - that might have caused it.
-
Yeah - that was the bit I was impressed with - his own custom board with lots of functions which connects to the zero via gpio pins - great imagination and realisation. And yeah - I agree - the aesthetics didn't set me alight, either! This guy should stick to the electronic engineering and partner with someone around case design Reminds me of Ben Heck a bit that!

This is still sounding like "hideos.exe" which is part of the gameex process. I've had fun and games with that before. Secondly, tell me if you have enabled checked or unchecked as per below. If Checked, uncheck it and try again. Basically some other app is pushing a black screen over the top of MM - wondering what this is Also - what is the file "D:\mame\marquees\default.jpg" - not black is it? Does it exist? I'm trying to chase this one down because I'm interested in what's overlaying MM. Following your providing the above, I may just cut my losses and code in a 'bring to front' although this can be a nightmare in terms of apps struggling for contention of the 'front'
-
I doubt it'd cover those systems, hans. Think 16 bit is as far as the pizero goes...
-
A solderless method to make your own pi-zero handheld: He even designed a custom board with pogo pins! Whilst I don't did the aesthetic, I love the vision and engineering.

So, following the crapbox tragedy whereby they removed everyone's public links rendering years of posting images on forums knackered, I log on today to codeplex to find this: https://www.codeplex.com/ So now these buggers are withdrawing their free service. This means I'm gonna have a lot of work to do setting up my apps + transferring my documentations for all my projects. It leads me to recommend one thing - get your own home severs, men! That way you can run your own shit without having to rely on these buggers or fear data loss or faff. Seriously - with mine, I can run my own cloud, ftp server, http server, SVN repository, email server and 24/7 torrent client (for seeding all those mame artworks). With a plugin I wrote + Resilio Sync, you can use your PC just like you did crapbox. You could, if you wanted, I guess, set up so much more. I've recently splashed on a 32p per month (exaggerated, but very low cost!) webspace and through this I can run a forum, bug tracking service and documentation wiki for my projects. I'm guessing you could set all this up on your home server too. Take a look: https://sites.google.com/view/magoarcade/software In short - cut the cord - drop these buggers before they drop you.

@Draco1962 - thanks Draco, I think it's likely just two monitors in total, but not very clear because he talks about using both primary and secondary displays in Marquee masher - this normally applies two monitors in addition to the main screen - although it's ambiguous because he could also use MM on his main screen (unlikely). That's handy though - I should include something in the log to specify user setups...
-
Yeah - my thoughts too Adultery + thanks for the thought - I'll have to take a look at the code - might have left out bring to top etc on MM because on my setup, I have the merry dance of CPWizard and MM complimenting each other on the same display, but was getting contention, so needed MM to take the back seat. Guess I could always add a 'send to top' option. However... @ksbman - this is likely me being thick, but I'm still not clear on your setup: a) How many monitors have you got? a2) Essentially, are you using both "1st Display" and "2nd Display" on Marquee Masher - i.e. having MM generate images on two displays, not just one? b ) What gets displayed on each monitor? c) Have you got "Setup Wizard>Display Settings>Hide Operating System" enabled? I'm wondering what the black display is going over the top of MM.
-
Ok. Few ideas. Firstly, you appear to have the secondary additional display enabled. You only need this is uou ahve two additional screens to your main one. From the log its hard to see a problem. The marquee is getting drawn on game launch. You mention that you can alt tab and find the marquee. Whatvexactly do you see on game launch? Do you get black screen over you marqude display or does it go back to the desktop? Is there something overlaying the marquee? This could be gameex game extender, gameex hide desktop or even mame - you can setup mame to display on a second display.. Try the ideas above and come back to me.

@ksbman Could you post: MMLog, settings and Systems out of GameEx>PLUGINS>MarqueeMasher please? Also, this happens for which system?
