Two things I've noticed in GameEx that do not match the setup wizard: 1) Under theme selection in the wizard I have "Default - Media Center" selected but if you look in the log files "Default - Media Center V1" is selected. (There is also a Default - Media Center V1" in the theme selection dropdown) Why doesn't this match? 2) Under tweaks/performance in the wizard you can select your system config (very high, high, medium, low). No matter what option I select it always goes back to medium. Z GameEx.ini log.txt

Is there a log file that shows which videos play in attract/screensaver mode? I have it set to 1:1 (1 video:1 mame avi) and stumbled upon a bad mame avi that just plays a horrid sound for 2 minutes until the next "music" video plays. Z

Thought this would be easy, but I guess I'm missing something..... I want to have a custom background for a few of the emulators I use. I see the option under Advanced Emulator Setup and when I drop down the Custom Background I see about 75 .png files (looks like the default set that comes with GameEx). I have dumped a few .png files into the "Gameex\themes\Default - Media Center\Media" folder but they do not show up in the Custom Background list. Z

I may actually have a use for this I have never setup my HOD 1 2 3 iso images in GameEx because they needed to be mounted in order to work and I just never got around to creating a batch file. Will this do the job? Also does it work with daemon tools lite? Z

I could do that but Gameex has this awesome feature (well I think it's awesome) in that, if the zip contain more then one version of the table it lists them on the next sub menu. So instead of having 600 tables under the emulator it may have only 200 listed with the other 400 as sub tables under the main tables. Since I have only a few unzipped tables, i may just zip those up (individually) and let Gameex just unzip them internally. It would be really cool to have this function working. Is there a bug reporting forum that Tom looks at? Z
-
celly, It has to be a bug with the Zip/7-Zip/Goodmerge/RAR setting, as soon as I turn that to yes it only shows the zipped tables. If I set Zip/7-Zip/Goodmerge/RAR=No and set the ROM Filter = *.fpt;*.zip it picks up the fpt and zip files, but hangs because it can't extract the zip file. (The Zip/7-Zip/Goodmerge/RAR setting works because if I turn that on I can play zipped table) Z

I think I figured out #1. There are a few QUIZ games (Japan) that play/look like Mahjong. I excluded those and they are out. As a follow up.....even if you exclude a title, it still shows up in the seach? #2 is the bigger issue, since I'm not sure which format I should stick with. Z

Just incase these are needed. GameEx.ini log.txt

Anytime I make any changes to the MAME Games yes, for other emulators no (SNES, N64, pinball, etc)

1) After GameEx loads and is on the home screen highlighted on MAME, video snaps play in the bottom left of the screen. What determines which ones play? The reason I ask is because I went through all 3600+ games, hitting delete on anything porn/mahjong related which added them to the exclude list. I had the No Porn Please and No Mahjong Games options selected but they still showed up in the main MAME list. Now I see the video snaps that play show a Mahjong game every so often. 2) Zip/7-zip/goodmerge/rar setting. So I have a few *.fpt files in my FP directory and have no issues loading them in GameEx. A friend gave me about 30 more tables in zip format (some zips contain more then one version of the table). I placed these in the same roms dir as the *.fpt files and turned on the Zip/7-zip/goodmerge/rar setting. With the zip setting on, it ignores the *.fpt files and only lists the *.zip tables. Is this the way it works? Z

Learn something new everyday.......I thought the map file was like a dictionary lookup?? I edited the .map file with only the ROMs I had (I was using fRequEnCy's to begin with), fired up GameEx and BINGO I have my list of ROM and Assets (snaps/videos/etc). (I'm really surprised the assets did not show with the full map file for the game assets I had) Another issue solved!!! Thank you both for your time!!!! Z

Yes, set the Model 2 emu to no before I started to config nebula as a separate emulator. Z EMULATOR.INI GameEx.ini log.txt

So i went to setup Model 2 emulation in GameEx and ran into some issues. First I have about 5 zipped ROMs that are in my d:\roms\model2 folder, d:\emulators\model2 contains the nebula 1.0 emulator and edited the emulator.ini to point to the ROMs dir so, standalone, everything works. Next I turned the model2 emu ON in GameEx, fired it up and only see two ROMs. (which I'm sure is coming from the mame ROMs dir since GameEx mods the emulation.ini). The other three were already there so I didn't need to d/l another set. So....after googling gameex and model 2, I decided to setup nebula as it's own emulator. That works but it pulls in every model2 rom even though I have the emulator.ini only pointing to the dir with the five ROMs. To add insult to my pain, I pulled the assets for these 5 ROMs and those don't show either. (not my first emu so I've gotten very proficient at configuring the asset dirs) Z

I've added a few PC games (Angry Birds/Maldita Castilla) to GameEx but when I press the ESC key to exit it brings up a menu asking if you want to Quit (the game), but the ESC key also sends the focus back to GameEx. So what your left with is the games running in the background at the Quit (Y/N) with GameEx in the foreground. I set the Map Keys to 'No' thinking that would solve it but no luck. Z

Is there any other way to display PC game titles other then under More Games & Programs? I was trying to figure out a way to lump them under say a [PC] Windows Games menu under Emulated Games Z

I know this is geared toward the VP forum, but I see a lot of posts about using the mapping key function of GameEx. I've never used that function so if it's an option a little tutorial on doing the first key combo would help. I currently have the plunger set to 'F' (Right joy down) on my x-arcade. The problem is when some people play, they snap the joystick down which in turn makes it hit 'R' (Right joy up) at times. It looks like the 'R' key is optional and NOT handled in the VPMkeys.vbs file, nor can it be changed in the VP. What are my options? Map R to Left Shift and W to R via AutoHotkey? I would rather stay away from changing modes on the xarcade since I will be dropping it into a cabinet. Z

Many thanks!!! That worked. (Win 7 64 bit) taskkill AutoHotkey <-- In Launch After box
-
Folks, What is the correct command line option in the Launch after box? I currently have a autohotkey working to map the second set of side buttons on a X-Arcade (for nudge left/right). But when I try to kill the command in the Launch after it doesn't work. tskill AutoHotkey I can open a cmd prompt and type that command and kill it manually. I even tried the full path c:\Windows\System32\tskill AutoHotkey with no luck. Z

Thanks for posting the link of things to try.....but it looks like I'm in that bucket too. Same issue as reported there and by wayda. Z

No dice. Same symptom as #4.

After my initial schooling on setting up MAME I've been working no stop over the last 3 days to add more and more into GameEx with 100% success. My kids saw the Karaoke option so I figured I'd please them and configure it, so..... 1) I did not install the Karaoke option when I initally installed GameEx. Is it just a matter of rerunning the install and selecting that option? 2) If I do rerun the install does it write over the config files? (After 3 days, I would hate to recreate them) 3) I see old posts about the Karaoke software not being the best, any recommendations for an external program? 4) I quickly set up gameex on a test box and I see the 2-3 karaoke songs and it plays a snipet if i highlight over it, but when I click on the song it goes black and right back to the gameex screen. All issues resolved, thanks guys for all your help on the above issues. Z

Hold that thought, I think I understand now, and have one of two working. Update: I think I have a better handle on the concept now. I updated the MAME config section with the right executable, path to mameui, ran the Update List, and both games are up and running. The only question I have now is I see 2 more ROMs in the list then are in the directory. In the ROMs dir I have area51, area51a, area51mx, pitfall2, pitfall2a, pitfall2u, and the CHD dirs for the area51 ROMs. I see area51, pitfall2, PAC-man, and splatter house in gameex. Any idea where the later two are coming from? Z

???? I originally started with mameui32 last week, then through reading got hooked, and looked for a front end. So I guess give me the quick and dirty of setting it up with mame inside gameex. Maybe I'm over complicating matters but inside gameex it looks like there is a default MAME emu (which is what I'm trying to get working, I didn't realize this at first) then you can bolt on all these other emu including other MAME emus. Starting at the bottom, I know the ROMs work, and I have them in there native state (didn't unzip, etc) Z

I read up on about the first 15 pages of the general forum, and have a little bit better understanding of Gameex (all roads lead to the Setup Wizard). So I copied a simple ROM and a ROM with a CHD into D:\testrom directory. (roms are zipped, and chd is in its dir with appropriate rom at the root). Added the dir to the config via the wizard, updated via gameex, and I don't see anything, but the five demos? I still think it's a simple issue. Once I get a handle on everything I'm sure the rest will fall into place. What am I missing? Z GameEx.ini log.txt
