I recently saw a video where someone was scrolling through his karaoke files within GameEx, and it was playing a preview of each song and CD+G file toward the left just like it plays preview videos for emulators. How can I get GameEx to do this for me? Thank you.

Karaoke is a registered version feature as shown here. You can purchase a registered version (no nag screen and enhanced features - go here for purchase information.

Setup for the Karaoke feature is pretty simple - if you have the files supported, you merely access the Karoake section of the configuration, set the path to your karaoke files and the behavior of clicking to queue or play the file.

If you are looking for a good frontend that allows you to play games through some of the best emulators, HTPC integration with Windows Media Center, watch videos, or, Karaoke, and support forums and members second to none, then I heartily recommend paying for a registered copy!

To answer your question, I was actually unaware of this feature. Are you sure what you saw was in fact the CD+G file playing the preview and not a video karaoke file instead?

I already registered GameEx. Karaoke works, but I want the preview to work like I saw in this video:

It says "This is a video of GameEx running with song previews for Karafun. I used Tempest's script from the http://www.gameex.info forums."

Yeah, they're probably videos. I read a thread from 2009 involving someone named Tempest, and the process sounds too complicated for me to bother. Is there a way for me to just hear the MP3 file as I scroll through songs without actually clicking on them?

Do you have Karaoke Play Mode set to "Clicking Song Queues Them" or "1 Click To Play Any Song?" I also noted in the video the user is apparently using a custom menu setup - not sure that this would have an impact on the app.

Either way, you may still have to click - would be interesting to find out from the user that created the video how they set it up. Have you attempted to contact him through YouTube?

Karaoke in this setup was setup as an emulator. I tested and GameEx will not play these files like this. Meaning that the user created video snaps for their collection. I'm unaware of a way to hear the MP3 file when scrolled either. How do you have your karaoke setup? I've tested in the karaoke section and audio section and it doesn't give the results you're after. Sorry. Maybe someone who uses audio knows of a way. This is something I don't use in GameEx.

It's set to "1 Click To Play Any Song." Clicking on it makes it load up and play, but I want a preview. Is there an easy way to do that? Can I make preview videos and treat it like an emulator? If so, what's the best way to make the videos?

If what your after is a video snap for each individual song, I'd first setup Karaoke as a seperate emulator like fRequEnCy mentioned. Then use FRAPS to capture the video snap. You can then use Virtual Dub to edit the video to your liking and then save the video you created as the song name (the actual song file name). Put these newly created video snaps into a folder and direct GameEx to this folder as the Snaps file. Hope this helps.
