Hi there,

Im pretty new to GameEX and have read through many posts relating to these type of problems but havent been able to sort it out

I can get the snaps to show up by pointing the snaps to the snap directory but when I try point to my videos folder I get nothing.

I have tried combining the snaps and videos and seperating them too.

Could someone please explain exactly how to set up gameex so I can see my snaps AND videos

I have donated to emumovies and have downloaded the hires vids using the download tool

I have the latest ffdshow and the vids play using WMP

thanks

Nat.

Hmm, you sure it's not a codec issue? Are your videos named the same as your ROM set?

Posted

I had the same problem when I was first setting up as well - I downloaded Shark007's codecs (from his website and separately to the GameEx download), and the videos then worked fine. Someone on here suggested that I shouldn't have had to do that (because the codecs come with the GameEx download), but I did and it fixed the problem.

Because your picture snaps are working i wouldnt say its a codec issue but do make sure you have sharks codec installed just to be safe, and as Adultery said the naming does need to be the same as your roms for example if you have a game/rom called "test" then the snap would be "test" and the video would also be "test", and they both need to be in the snap draw, the reason being GameEx will search the draw for the snap/video and match it with the rom and show it.

Just to clarify, the codecs do not come installed with GameEx. Uninstall FFDShow and go get Shark007's Vista Codec Pack instead. :)

Ok

All my roms and snaps and videos are named the same

I have uninstalled FFDshow and installed the shark codecs for win7

I have put all my png and avi snaps into the snap folder in the assests directory

I have pointed the gameex config to look for the snaps in the same snap folder

AND I STILL DONT HAVE ANY VIDEOS!!! ARGGG!!

There is something I dont understand: in the gameex config there is the option to point to snaps and video snaps. If I only point to the snaps folder I get the snaps (images). If I point to the snaps and videos folder I get nothing, it like they cancel each other out. So why is there the option to point to a video folder when it doesnt work? Its very confusing and to be honest Im getting a little stressed considering I have shelled out the money and registered both this software and emumovies.

I must be doing something wrong, obviously, but I dont know what? Could it be the themes Im using? Do I have all the right options enabled in the config? I dont know!

Hmm... You shouldn't be having this issue. Try not pointing to snaps and pointing to videos and report back. Also try using the default theme, and please post your GameEx log/INI.

I noticed that the file you posted shows the following:

15:57:21.9 13/04/2011: AVI Snap Path: Not Found

Please go into the Advanced Configuration utility Under Basic MAME Settings on the first page and set the path to your video snaps (AVI or FLV format - does not matter). Likely the path will be D:\Games\Assets\MAME\AVISnap or at least thats is how I have mine setup separate from the Snaps directory and it works just fine keeping them separated for MAME. You will mix them under the other emulators in the same directory path.

No, this does not work.

If I do this then I get no videos and no images, nothing at all.

It seems to me that I have something very seriously wrong with my setup, Im half tempted just to reinstall Windows and start again to be honest.

Anyway heres a new log with the avisnap path included:

Please provide a copy o f your gameex.ini file (will need to open in Notepad and Save As txt file to post to the forum) Don't do anything as drastic as reinstalling Windows unless you are having other issues outside of GameEx regarding.

Ok Ive got it working.

Im not exactly sure how though!

Here's what I did:

Originally I had FFDshow installed and all videos worked prefectly in WMC and WMP etc but none of the avisnaps were showing up in GameEx.

I unistalled FFDshow and installed the Shark Codec pack but still no avisnaps in GameEx.

Last night I went to watch an MKV movie and it wouldnt play so I fiddled about with the settings in the Shark Codec pack and also noticed that my Haali splitter was unistalled (must have been uninstalled when removing FFDshow I guess).

So, I reinstalled Haali and now everything works perfectly.

Strange, becuase I didnt think that the emumovies avisnaps needed a matroska splitter, but then again I did fiddle about a bit with the settings in shark so that may have done it, I dont know!

thanks for all your help and suggestions guys! :)

You're welcome Traffik! We'll mark this as resolved then and Welcome to the Forum!

If you're going to install the Shark codec pack we recommend you remove ALL codecs on your system before installing it. The Shark codec pack includes the Haali Splitter so there must have been some conflict with a previous install. Glad you got it sorted in the end! B)
