[RESOLVED] GameEx and cheat.zip not working

Recommended Posts

Posted

I set up GameEx 11.51 registered, MameUI32 0.141 in my new PC and cabinet.

cheat.zip is in the MAME folder root and works with MameUI32 0.141.

But when using GameEx, cheats are not visible/working anymore.

Any ideas guys what to do/configure?

Either set the switch in the command line or create a config and set it in there so that it's called. Creating a config can be done by the mame executable and the -cc switch. As far as the command line for the cheat I would have to download and look in the documentation.

It's -cheat for the argument. Pretty easy to just add it into the command line switches imstead of creating a config for this in my opinion.

Guys, i am a retard so i would need more precise setp-by-step infos, if possible.

I tried going to:

Advanced MAME Settings and adding -cheat in the MAME options, but that was not it i guess?

I think the cheat file started working all ok without any gimmicks when i was using 0.135.

I havent used cheats since they re-did the whole cheat system. From what I recall, the file was CHEAT.DAT and needs to be in the same directory mame is located. So if you have a Cheat.zip, please unzip it.

As Adultery noted you need to also tell mame you want to use the cheat.dat by adding the -cheat switch to either the command line (in advance mame settings) or by editing the mame.ini (cheat 1)

Your mame.ini should be in your mame directory, if you do not have one you can create it the way Frequency mentioned by running MAME.exe -cc from a command line. the CC stands for create config.

Could you please post your log after running a MAME game? It would help a lot. :)

Raitsa: the cheat file downloaded from pugsy's cheats is a double zip(download the zip file, not the 7zip).you have to unzip the first one and then you will have 2 .txt files and another zip called cheat.zip(DO NOT UNZIP CHEAT.ZIP!!).it is that one (cheat.zip)that you put in your mame directory

then you go to the gameex advanced settings and add -cheat your command line.and when adding your your command line make sure there is a space between arguments example: -joy -triplebuffer -cheat -nowindow.

hope this helps you out :)

My only worry on this is why would it work outside of GameEx and not within it?

When you pull up the menu with the TAB key, can you even enable the cheats or does it say CHEATS: OFF like MAME does? Never used this build before so don't be mad I asked! ;)

I have not used mameui in awhile so I just downloaded it,enabled cheats in mameui, tried it through GameEx and cheats worked. When you press tab cheats is a option under video then you turn cheats on\off.I did nothing other then what I said in the above post :)This is my command line that I used.

    -nowindow -joy -skip_gameinfo -cheat

Everything is looking just perfect configurationwise, but no cheat-menu shows up when using GameEx.

Cheat-menu shows up all ok when i start only the MameUI32 and cheats works as they should.

But with GameEx, no.

And i use the very same MameUI32 when starting GameEx.

I have no other MAME exe´s in my cab either.

Very weird.

Maybe this is related to the new MAME bug with too many games? Once that's resolved, we'll get back on this. Sorry I can't be of any help right now as I am temporarily without cab. :(

I wouldn't think so in this case as GameEx is just passing along the command-line.

Testing from the command-line is what needs to be done from the OP. Users saying the classic, "It works outside of GameEx" is basically untrue. Perhaps from the GUI yes but from the command-line, obviously not. ;) So I suggest testing outside of GameEx from the command-line to troubleshoot. Final step would be that I'd be willing to help remotely as I do this with some of our users already. I know other members that have offered this in the past as well. Then we can narrow it down more quickly. Good luck and let us know the results or if you want remote assistance.

Thanks guys for the tips & help.

fRequEnCy, remote help would be highly appreciated since command line stuff is beyond my knowledge and i dont have much freetime atm, with a 11 month old babyboy.

I guess you are meaning remote access with Teamviewer? Its an awesome proggy.

Anytime suits me, my cab has Win7 Ultimate and nothing really but MAME stuff in it.

Usually the cab is not connected to the net but i can plug it in anytime.

I am located in Finland, so we have a major time difference :)

Yes! Teamviewer is the application I use. I guess we just need to see when we're on at the same time. I seen you logged in now so if you want support then please meet me in the chat room. Link is found on top of the forums.

Did your sub short out the coin door again or is it worse?

Solved! User had two mame.ini files. One in main directory and one in the ini directory (where Mame32UI puts it). So they were conflicting. Once the mame.ini file was deleted in the main directory, cheats worked. Little things like this will create huge problems. Hope this info helps someone and glad we got it all sorted out. Enjoy Raitsa!
