Though I've created a theme years back, I can't grasp this anymore.

I'm shooting for a plain black theme. I'd like to have a plain black screen with the rom list in white. No sort by, no manufacturer, no nothing. Just a white text list of games over a black back drop. upon highlighting a game i'd like the corrosponding cabinet image off to the left.

Also, I've downloaded a font, installed it into the C:\Windows\fonts folder, and changed it in the Advanced Config/Display settings in GameEx, but nothing changed.

Lastly, I've customized the control panel image to mirror my 1 joystick, 3 button panel. How would I reposition the text that appears next to the buttons that explain what the buttons do before the game launches? If I can't, I'd like to not show this screen at all.

I probably just need a nudge in the right direction, because I have tons of hours invested in the editor, but it's just been too long.

To change the font, start a theme using an existing theme, then click on Edit > Options, then the Fonts tab. Click on Main Font and select the font you have installed in Windows, change the font size if necessary, then click OK.

You will likely need to create your background in a graphics editor (Photoshop or GIMP for example - save as a PNG file in the screen dimension you are wanting to use (640x480, 800x600, etc.).

To remove the menu bar, you can delete this in the main layout of the theme editor. You can also move around the dates and times (or remove them if you wish). You can also reposition the Image and Image2 positions (Image displays your logos and videos, Image2 generally your bezels and cabs).

Keep in mind that you will need to create bak files for each emulator and other parts of GameEx. It's going to take some trial and error but once you get started it will become second nature again.

"Simple mode" will also remove the menu bar.

If GameEx cant find controls.ini it will remove the view control panel option.

Hey Tom, thanks for the reply. I've got gameex looking exactly how I want it. I've edited the control panel image to represent my layout, just curious how I rearrange the button descriptions. I.e. "pepper" is still where button 1 used to be when viewing the burgertime controls. Basically I want "pepper" next to where Moved button 1.
