FLV Video Snaps don't play

FLV video snaps I downloaded from EmuMovies aren't playing in GameEx...while I can manually find them under the multimedia viewer and they play fine. On the other hand, I downloaded a couple of AVI video snaps, and they work like a charm. What seems strange to me is that I know that GameEx can play the FLVs, as they play when invoked manually, so it makes me wonder if there is a basic setting I'm missing here. Any thoughts? I'm running the latest GameEx on Windows 7.

I didn't think GameEx supports these. Only AVI and MPG. Can anyone else confirm this?

I thought it did, but only because I saw this in my search for a resolution to this issue: http://www.gameex.info/forums/index.php?showtopic=6829&st=0&p=50970entry50970

But, since I know that gameex is able to play FLVs manually, I'd assume it can play them any place within the app. I am not having video played externally, as far as the setup is concerned, so I believe the GameEx engine itself is managing the playback through whatever codecs are on my system.

I think he added compatibility for flv videos, but I honestly don't think they're supported as video icons\snaps. I coulda sworn that was only as stand alone videos, and afaik it's still just avi\mpg for these purposes.

Tom will have to confirm or deny this, but I don't think it's coded as such. Like trying to use tiff snaps... you can view them in pictures, but it only works for jpeg and png for snaps.

Correct me if I'm wrong.

Correction! FLV Video Snaps are supported. It's likely a codec issue. Proof that they are supported can be found here, here, and here. I'm sure many more places but that was the top results using search.

OMG, I got one right for a change. Be still my heart. Actually my old memory couldn't remember for sure. Went back and in some instances I'm using the Emumovies FLV instead of avi.

I had the same problem - all of my videos are .flv. Downloaded Shark007's codecs, problem solved.!

im having the same problem. just upgraded to windows 7. installed Shark007's codecs and still not working. im assuming its a windows 7 thing. can anyone help me out

Are you getting any errors when they attempt to load? Can you post a copy of yoru log file and gameex.ini (open your gameex.ini in notepad and save as.txt file first as the Forum software will not allow for .ini files to be posted).

i think its a file association problem cause when i went into shark 007 settings i set it so that .flv plays with windows media player. but when i play a file with windows media player it gives the error (Windows Media Player cannot play the file. The Player might not support the file type or might not support the codec that was used to compress the file) i know if i can get it to play with windows media player there shouldnt be a problem playing it in game ex. i have windows 7 64bit

I am running on Win 7 64-bit as well. I will try to test over the next day or so and see if I come up with the same results. In the mean time, please post your gameex.ini and log file so we can take a look at settings, etc.

This may all be due to the basic settings or if you've made any changes in the shark007 codec pack. So much going on in this thread so hard to tell what's going on exactly. For those who are having problems, first test outside of GameEx. If WMP are not playing these files correctly then used Shark007's suggested settings. It's a checkbox on the bottom of the Shark007 Settings Application. I would do this after pressing the Reset All button in case something got changed. If the files are still not playing correctly in WMP then I suggest going to the Shark007 forums for some help as they are more knowledgeable about these things. Now if it's playing in WMP and not in GameEx then something is obviously wrong. Please post your logs as suggested. I don't use these files so makes it hard to test and duplicate. If need be then I'll get a hold of some and troubleshoot this.

I have not tried to use the FLV's with gameex, but reports I have received is that the FLV run slower than the AVI's in gameex. I would suggest sticking with the AVI's

ok here it is. i know i had it working before on windows 7. but my problem is that it wont play in windows media player i went into shark settings and clicked on sharks suggested settings. and still doesnt play on windows media player. its just not associated correctly. but here is the content from my gameex-ini

I put your config in a spoiler so that it doesn't take up the whole screen. For future reference please upload the data in a txt or zip file so that it's easier for us to read. Also please post your log file as I don't see how your config would be very helpful in this situation. Post your log when attempting to use your flv snaps in hopes that it provides something useful. Hee Hee! I recommend that since the old

 code only does a standard code box instead of the old one where it was scrollable.  That bbcode was changed when the forums were updated to IP.Board 3.x from IP.Board 2.x.  So a spoiler at least hides it until we need it.  I actually kinda like that better than a user uploading the file where I have to log in just to download it.  Plus it saves on their upload space not that it takes up much for something like that but I like my stuff clean.  LOL.

And you tried resetting and using sharks suggested settings as I mentioned before? Did you have any other codecs installed that may be conflicting? If the files don't play in WMP then I suggest trying the Shark007 forums. Since that's what they specialize in.
