I have been running the full version of GameEx for a while now and have loved it. One of the easiset front ends to get up and running. Anyway... I had decided to add a few more games to mame machine and after ignoring the update notifications for months I finally decided to let it upgrade as well as add the games.

I got everything updated, added the games, and updated the list. However, most of the new games made the list, but a few of the working older games dissapeared. I updated the list again, and one or two games came back, but still several were now off the list. Tried updating the list again, but the games never came back.

Any reason why this would happen? I have not changed the mame build, so the working games should have still shown up. Think I am using mame 0.136 with high score save ability, but not positive on version since I am at work.

Thanks

Many roms undergo changes from build to build. Did you scan your rom set with clrmamepro or a similar hash checker, or did you just add a few new roms and update your mame build? Or you didn't update your mame build at all?

Also you can try turning verify roms off within gameex. Maybe turn off remove duplicates too. Both are in the gameex advanced config.

The main reason this typically happens is when you have a different version of MAME as your roms. MAME roms don't often change, but when they do, the verify roms option will make them disappear from the list. This is by design as those old roms don't officially work with your build.

The best practice is to keep your roms and mame version in line. You can use Clear MAME Pro (CMP) to build a romset for whatever version of MAME you want to run for going forward.

It may be the 'Remove Duplicates' Option in the 'Advanced Mame Options' Section. It automatically defaults to on, so you may need to turn it off.

Thanks for the replies, however a few of the replies have to do with changing the mame build, which I am aware of the change in the builds breaking certain rom sets. I have not changed mame builds or rom sets. Working games dissapeared after updating GameEX, not the mame build.

I will try the suggestions of GameEx settings, thanks again.

Ahhh, ok. Some people obtain a rom at a time off the internet and throw them in the rom folder thinking they will just work. We don't ask how you get your roms, so I wasn't sure if that's what was going on or not. Anyway, Tempest's suggestion is the next thing that you should try. If that doesn't do it, play with other filters and see if anything in there helps. If the roms are there and they work in your MAME build, then it must be a filter thing.

Sorry this is only a newbie suggestion but have there been any changes in the default filter options that rbarr110 might have caught in the update? In another thread it got brought up that the default gauntlet is actually the spanish version, with spanish likely to make the filter line in another update. Might be worth checking the news section to see if any of the update info relates to additions to the filter line?

Edit: Actually scratch that as even if it did it should default to another version right? Sorry like they said probably still a filter\ options thing I know I had to play around to get a few games like wonderboy 2 working.

As was mentioned earlier, the remove duplicates option was added recently. Try and turn it from auto to off and turn verify roms off. That should do the trick.

Ok, thanks everyone I appreciate the help. Turning remove duplicates to "OFF" cleared up the issue.

What I find funny about the remove duplicates is that if you have two instances of a rom, for example ROM_A and ROM_B in the folder it removes them both, I would think it would leave one of them on the list. Also, for whatever reason it was removing a few roms even though there werent any duplicates or clones or different revisions in the ROM folder that I could see.

But thank you, that fixed my issues.
