It's XP... I have a port open and working on uTorrent too so I don't see why I can't get this one to open. I have to be doing something wrong here... It's not like I'm a networking noob, but this is just frustrating.

I'll try one more thing quick before I say screw it entirely. If Tom has uPNP working (which he does), even without the firewall exception it should be working fine. Damn!!!

uPNP on in router, port forwarded... I'm running out of things to try.

Are you using any security products (Norton or Macafee) or any anti-spyware stuff (Spybot, etc.)? If any of the first you may need to setup rules for the application to allow and put in specific ports. SOme users have reported issues with Spybot as well.

I will if I can see ya - see no games, too.

I ditched Windows Firewall even to test out... I also disabled Avast! to make sure that wasn't a problem. I just don't know what else to do, so I guess I'll stick to a no-online-gaming cabinet for a while. :(

I wouldn't disable Avast (also, just because you disable it it may still be "active" in service. Does Avast have program exception settings or rules? )

i noticed something since the 2 last update of gameex...sometime when i try to go the the net play list i got a "not available" instead of a "no game" ...and sometime it freeze when i try to go to the netplay list ...one time it froze so bad i got to reboot my cab

i'd really like to test this with someone :)

ive requested games several times and nothing ever happened.. is it just meant to auto start if someone requests?

if someone does a request will they get notified via a pop up?

i go to netplay and i never see any available games, i have upnp enabled and port 5805 tcp and udp forwarded to my cab. Windows firewall disabled..

someone willing to test this with me? im on uk time zone :) msn i guess would be best to organize it..

chat client via game ex for netplay.. that would be fairly easy to set up and quite cool, even if it just links to the chat on this forum, to see what users are actively online

I just wanted to say thanks Tom for implementing ClientServer Mame into this amazing frontend. Good job man. Haven't had a game test yet but hopefully soon.

One thing I would like to mention. I had a very very hard time figuring out why I was not getting the "Netplay" option within the GameEX menu. Turns out I did not configure the paths correctly. Tom in your original post, you tell us to simply "Setup the paths to Client/Server MAME and enable." This is a very vague line of instruction, especially to those of us new to GameEX such as myself. I was totally unaware that within the GameEX config options we have to go into the Advance MAME config options and that the *specific* option to enable CS Mame as well as another option allowing us to select the ClientServer mame path was there. It wasn't until I read this post below:

You can either select Custom in the setup wizard and look at Client/Server MAME. Or its at the end of advanced MAME confg in the advanced utility.

....that I figured out what you were referring to. May I suggest re-writing that one piece of instruction in the first post, to a more descriptive line telling us exactly where and how to enable CS Mame in the GameEX options? Just a friendly suggestion. Keep up the good work Tom :)

isamu if you check the first post there are screenshots showing you the settings in the Setup Wizard ;)

I have added "(see screenshot below)". Hopefully that makes it a bit clearer.

Hey tom, looking at the latest blog ' http://10ghost.blogspot.com/' it talks about support for snes roms, there is also talk of it already supporting nes roms ?

Are you going to add the functionality in to game ex? so we also get a netplay option under snes/nes etc ?

If someone requests a netplay game, is it possible for game ex to make a sound or pop up, that will also be able to be visual/audible if you were already playing a game, snes/mega drive/mame etc ?

thanks

I amde a post asking Tom the same thing. Hopefully he will assimilate Client Server MESS into the GameEX front end, so that we won't have to deal with any commandline mumbo jumbo :)

I believe I have everything set up correctly but I continue to get no games when I enter netplay. You mention entering the rom path in the mame.ini file. My roms are in c:\roms\mame

What path structure should I use? \roms\mame ?

Thanks in advance for the help.

Try C:\roms\mame if it's a path on your C: drive

I tried that and still got no games. Am I only supposed to see invited games or all the games in my directory?

First make sure you have followed all the points in the first post.

You will only get a list of games hosted by other people that you can join. Or you can try and host a game yourself and wait for someone else to join you.

You should be able to start a game by selecting it where you usually do, and in the options list there it should say 'start netplay' or something to that effect. The screen you're looking at will only list games other users have started.

I have an interesting question regarding this program....I notice that the newer versions of mame(well, not quite as new anymore) allows the user to select a different game within mame itself and while already playing your game. A very very cool concept. But here's the question....does this work while in an online game? Or do you still have to back out of mame and go back to the GameEX frontend to select a different game? It would be very cool to be able to select a new game while still playing the current one.

Thats not going to be possible with the GameEx suppport for Client/Server MAME as GameEx cant do the server matchmaking like that. It would work if you were manually using it though.

If you enter mame netplay, you will only see hosted games, ive only ever seen one hosted once and I check fairly often :) most people dont seem to use it

I've also added links to execute GPPO and supercade via external applications, these are far more active. Supercade now has support for about 100 games or so.

I show gppo via gameex in my video youtube.com/aletchet if you are interested - thats where i am playing 3rd strike

Actually Damdai is working on a new Supercade WIP, that looks to be a psuedo return to form for us 2DF fans.

Also, why on earth would you use external apps to launch ggpo and supercade ? Both of them already have their own frontend shells and are extremely neat, easy and simplistic to launch.

How else do you launch an external application via gameex, without going in to the menu 'external applications' or whatever it's called ? :)

perhaps you misunderstood what i meant, I just set up batch files to call the ggpo binary, for supercade i just launch firefox with the supercade link

Hey all,

There's a beta version of ClientServerMAME 0.8. This is a complete rewrite of CS-MAME from 0.7c, and has a number of networking improvements. Most notably, it comes with an installer that will add an exception to windows firewall, and it will try to punch through most routers to establish a connection.

Version 0.8 is still in beta, but you can download an early copy here: https://github.com/MisterTea/ClientServerMAME/downloads

Awesome feature Tom! Guess I've been away a little too long

I got it setup ok it seems. I'm using the latest beta of client/server. Though I keep getting -No Games Found- is because no one is hosting? Or that I'm using a beta? Also the roms path is correct.
