Draco1962
OK - I am confuzzled. Previously I was not able to participate in Netplay. Now, I am! I haven't made any recent changes (other than upgrading the ClientServerMAME app). No changes to previous port forwarding setting or previously setup exclusions in Norton. I have to say that it is pretty frickin' awesome! Just played a short round of Gigawing with chrisqc and was flawless on my end as player 2. I have to agree with him about a general user guide for this. Maybe I will scour DG's blog to see if I can piece some basics together along with the info from this thread. This would be GameEx facing.
chrisqc
i don't want to annoy annybody here but is this a gameex feature ? or a mame feature ? i know its a mame derived stuff but the way gameex temper with it is not the same way than with the command line ... so that part (at least) should be explain better ..see all the emulation world now know that this cs exist but whats the point if its too complikated to use ? see somewhere i read that you need a mame.ini... and now you don't need it annymore. again i don't want to annoy anybody i can help built that guide and you may correct it later

GameEx will handle the UPnP updating of the firewall in most cases (in some, may require additional tweaking of port forwarding if it doesn't or adding exceptions to anti-malware software - unfortunately, those tweaks cannot all be documented because of the many different combinations of routers, firewalls, anti-malware software, so this will require a certain amount of diligence of the end-user to become better acquainted with these segments of their setups. The Mame.ini -cs apparently is only required if you are using a MAME build outside of GameEx. Router and firewall setup is really beyond the scope but you shouldnt have to worry about setting up cs mame itself other than downloading and setting the paths. Adultery
OK nice to see all this... I'll try and run it without the mame.ini and see if I have any more luck with it. So far I've only seen Draco once and bobross once... maybe more people will start using it.What would be rad is if we were sending a notification popup to users that a game has been located/started that makes a sound if the cab is in attract mode. I bought a new switch to wire the game room and this would be a great way to utilize it!

headkaze
Here is a video made by DigitalGhost. It might help a few people out with getting CS-MAME working although the procedure to connect is slightly different in GameEx.
Adultery
The video is great! Funny thing is the WWF music ic too loud to hear what he's tweaking to make it run. Is this step needed for a bunch of games or just the occasional crazy one?.:EDIT:. Ahh, so I hooked onto someone, may cab asked me if we would like to play a game, the CP came up, I waited, then the host disappeared and the list said "No Games Found". So... Who's end is the problem on? Anyone know? Also, if I hook up to someone, and it just falls back to the game list with that game removed, does that mean the host didn't accept my invite? Is this normal GameEx behaviour?

Adultery
My ports are open and listening. My router shows the port as open too. I ping'd it and evenchecked it on a port checking web site. All is well as far as that goes. I also have the latest version. I fear that this has something to do with my inability to generate a config file.Do our command line options need to be the same? I see mine runs the same switches as my MAME build does.

chrisqc
some say that you don't need a config file last test didn't work too ... wich windows are you using ? if its vista or seven try to make your mame.ini open a command prompt "in administrator mode" and your file should be created using the command vmame.exe -cc
chrisqc
Ahh hell... I give up. I just can't get this to work. Maybe I should turn off uTorrent...3. Enable Client/Server MAME in the "SETUP WIZARD" under "custom" option. then make sure your path and exe are correct in the "Advance MAME" setup in Advanced Config.5. To start serving a game make sure you have port 5805 UDP allowed on your ROUTER and Windows Firewall or use upnp ( vista and windows 7 run GameEx in Admin mode one time so it will configure windows firewall all by itself ) 6. once in GameEx select "MAME" from the main menu you should now see a new option "MAME NetPlay" this is the list of hosted online game that you can connect to as a Client 7. to Host a game choose "All MAME Games", select a game from the list, then in the Game Info screen select "Request NetPlay". Adultery
It's XP... I have a port open and working on uTorrent too so I don't see why I can't get this one to open. I have to be doing something wrong here... It's not like I'm a networking noob, but this is just frustrating.I'll try one more thing quick before I say screw it entirely. If Tom has uPNP working (which he does), even without the firewall exception it should be working fine. Damn!!!uPNP on in router, port forwarded... I'm running out of things to try. Adultery
What could be in there that the EXE is coded for but can't find? If I understand anything about coding, a MAV violation only happens when your porgram calls for something that isn't there. If that were the case, everyone would be having the same problem. I would worry more if this was happening to other proggys as well... It's gotta have something to do with the inability to write the config file... Or my chipset... Damn, I don't want to have to reinstall my OS and start GameEx over yet again...
