Hello there,

I am having trouble with playing DVD files on my harddisk. I already used the search function but could not find a solution.

Configuration :

Windows XP SP3

ACE Mega Codec Pack

PowerDVD

Copied DVD files on my disk d:\DVD\DVD1

Gameex 10.34

I can play the DVD files without any problems with PowerDVD or the Media Player Classic

1. Start GameEx

2. Go to Mutlimedia -> DVD

3. I choose my DVD

4. I also get a preview of the DVD

5. When I try to start it, screen goes black and then I return to GameEx

My LOG file tells me :

21:41:08.4 1/2/2010: Error HRESULT E_FAIL has been returned from a call to a COM component.

21:41:08.4 1/2/2010: at DvdCore.DvdEngineClass.Init()

After playing with some settings in the gameex.ini, I got the system to play DVD, BUT, it takes a loooong time till he plays the DVD. Now it will be like that :

1. Start gameex

2. start a DVD

3. Sound still plays for about 10 seconds, screen gets black, BUT the 2 buttons on the right up corner (X and Home) still stay there

4. I have to push buttons

5. DVD starts to play

...and thats horrible. I attached my gameex.ini and my new log file.

Hoepefully someone can help me out with this problem. I already had a good system with version 9.79 and my harddisk crashed. So I had to rebuild my system with version 10.34 and now I am having the trouble...please help...

Bye,

André

Maybe its a bug ?

So, I started all over again and here are the exact steps I did :

1. Install XP Professional SP3 integrated

2. Install .NET Framework 2.0

3. Install FFDShow (newest Version)

3. Install NVIDIA PureVideo Decoder

4. Install Windows Media Player 11

4. Install GameEx 10.34

My log file tells me :

13:02:39.2 1/4/2010: Failed Opening Video: d:\dvd\russisch\dvd 1\video_ts\vts_01_1.vob

13:02:43.0 1/4/2010: Error HRESULT E_FAIL has been returned from a call to a COM component.

13:02:51.6 1/4/2010: Closing database connection

13:02:51.6 1/4/2010: Checking for applications to Launch On Exit

...and I still can not see DVDs...so I think maybe its a bug in the program ? What do I wrong ? Please tell me Your simple steps...

SOLVED !!

Ok, I am a little bit dissapointed of the support here in the forum...anyway, I finally managed to solve the problem, but it was tricky...

The forum is made up of users of the GameEx software primarily. There is basically no "staff" (certainly not a paid one anyway). As a result, the solutions provided are usually very quick and accurate but sometimes do take some time to ferret out. If you want to help improve the quality of the forum, you could post your solution here so that both the regular members (the "support") know what the problem was so we can help others better in the future.

Glad you got things going. Have fun!

Problem NOT solved !

Its so strange ! Now GameEx plays the FIRST DVD title and when I go out and start another DVD title, the screen stays black and the MP3 musik which is always in the backround still plays and GameEx does not load the DVD film....

How did I manage to play the first video in gameex ?

1. Install Vista Codec Pack

2. Configure Vista Codeck pack -> go to "MPEG" Tab -> select "use FFDshow"

3. Configure gameex in the DVD settings that "DVD uses ffdshow"

So, for the first title, this works, but when I click another title, I am lost...

So again my question to You : how did You setup Your gameex with the DVD support ? Just write down these small steps ans I am happy...

OK, NOW the problem is solved...what a mess...but what was the problem ?

1. I have a standard resolution of 800x600

2. When I start GameEx, it will switch to 640x480

3. When I start a DVD file via GameEx, it seems to me that he will switch back ti 800x600

4. When I leave DVD playback, he will again switch over to 640x480

5. When I start again the DVD, GameEx seems to have problems again switching to 800x600...

How did I resolve the problem ?

I simply set the defeault resolution also to 640x480 so GameEx will not switch and now everything is working...

I think Tom should have a look at this...could be a bug...

thanks for You reply but I WANTED to switch the resolution ! I know these settings...

You can tell GameEx to not switch resolution in Display Settings (1).
