The cabinet is a Atari RAY 1100 (AR1100) with a self-made controller console (original was missing when I bought it) and a Sony CRT telly. Currently running GameEx on a C2D system, the system is playable but also very much W.I.P... The software config just never seems to end ;).

I'm also currently looking into adding a steering wheel and pedals as I recently got this wonderfully retro-ish Thrustmaster T1 controller.

That's a sexy cab! Futuristic even! The crimson red suits it well.

Here is mine. It's coming along, just got the control panel done, new side art, marquee, cpo. New monitor but can't figure out how to bezel and mount it. Still a W.I.P.

Looks great! Really came out well! You can get LCD bezel kits from a couple different places online. I got mine from Suzo-Happ. :)

Thanks man. Suzo-Happ is a favorite site for me to drool at sh*t I can't afford! Yeah, bezel it then add nice USB inputs in the front and I'm done.

My GameEx cabinet is finally done... finally. It's got a so-so computer at it's heart but everything else was built from the ground up. Pain in the ampersand.

Thanks to everyone on this great forum for helping me get GameEx running like silk, it really helps the illusion of the arcade machine.

BTW - It looks the way it does because my wife insisted it look like a piece of furniture.

Completely understand bro. :)

Looks fabulous! At least your wife allows you to keep it upstairs! :P

You did a good job on that. Creative "coin door" too! :D

PS: Get a haircut hippie! LMAO! (J/K of course!)

I will have to disguise mine as an HTPC.. not that it is a bad thing! LOL! Good going Gimpper!

That's awesome Gimpper! I really like the steampunk feel you embued into the project! So kudos also to your wife for planting the seeds of that stylistic vision!

nice work on the Steampunk! lol, it's kinda depressing to see the new cabs as mine is slowly dying. trackball is dead, marquee has burned out..now I'm on to repair work instead of improving :(

Watchutalkinbout Willis? Part of repairing is upgrades! ;)

easiest way ( well the way i did it ) was to get a piece of plexiglass and spray the inside black leaving the area that the monitor actually shows the image, mind my monitor had a black edge so was easy.

You can mask a putty colored monitor and paint it black. If it is going to be behind glass, painting over the controls won't matter much.

I should update that pic as I did figure it out. Instead of buying the kit from Suzo (which Im pretty sure wouldn't work honestly) I just bought a wall tilting hanger from Frys for $20 bux. Then I added some support members to the inside of the cab, cut a piece of mdf and mounted it inside. Put the wall hanging hardware on the back of the monitor and the mdf, slapped that together and it looks great. Just have to rattle can the plexi around it.

The bezel is giving me grief too... Primarily it'll be a game system but if I decide I wanna watch a dvd or hulu or whatever the angle of view on the LCD monitor is such that it's too dark to see. Now I could rig up something to straighten up but then the angle of the case is a pain in the posterior... Still thinking but the sound board on my TRON went out so I've been distracted by that.

Well, I just replaced all the ribbon cables which is the easy but unlikely fix. It'll be a good thing in the long run because they were ate up but it didn't fix the sound problem. The game still runs like a champ just no sound. There's a GREAT artisan here in town that can fix anything but he's not cheap so...

Well here's an updated shot. I've managed to mount the monitor, add some plexi over that and installed the front external USB outlets. Just needing to bezel the monitor and create an instruction card for GameEx.

Very nice! Now, just replace the ceiling fan with maybe a mirror ball, throw in some black lighting and carpet with UV glow patterns and you are ready!

Where do you guys get your t-moulding? Ive been thinking about replacing mine to better suit my overall theme.

Posted

I wonder if you could get away with marking and masking your dimensions on the Plexi and then spray paint the side facing the monitor to bezel it? Either that, or create some neat artwork along with your instruction card and have a bezel custom printed to fit behind the plexi.

Ohh good tip Celly! (I can't believe it's even t-molding.com and I didn't think to look there! LOL!)

I was thinking red on the Mario side, green on the Luigi side, and black textured in the center... I do appreciate the offer though! :D

Great prices!!! It's only around 50c or less a foot, and all'd have to do is replace t-molding so it ought to be a quick upgrade. :)

Does it glow under a blacklight?
