Hello friends, Like you I have a passion for games and I think GameEx is going to be my solution. I have successfully installed it but have a few questions:

1) During install "Would you like to install more emulators" causes many strange file paths to be searched for during gameex launch. Do I need to have previously downloaded these emulators? Should I avoid these emulators?

2) I have build my machine in a old school NES case (just finished yesterday, I will post pics within the week) and want to load GameEx up with games, where is the best place to start for this? Do I have all the emulators I need? Does GameEx help me download games or do I need to find them myself?

3) A big question I have been struggling with: Should I install gameex on my nes or on my server and remote in?

Thank you,

Treats

Which emulators you setup is completely up to you and based on which games you like to play. Most people start with Mame and then move on from there to console emulators. If you want to play NES games then you'll need to download and install an NES emulator like NEStopia. GameEx automates downloading for you, look under your setup options. The paths for each emulator tell GameEx where to find key resources like the emulator .exe or the folder where the preview images reside.

See above, the emulators you 'need' depends on what you want to play. 'Acquiring' roms that you don't legally own isn't discussed on this board. Google is your friend.

3) A big question I have been struggling with: Should I install gameex on my nes or on my server and remote in?

You should run GameEx on your local machine.

Thank you shaunopp, but now a few more questions come up.

What emulators with the gameex installer install for me and what ones do I need to find on my own?

Also, there are two prompts for emulators within the wizard to install. The first one lets you select all of them and they download (and install?). The second allows you to select more emulators but during the testing phase each of those emulators wants to create paths on G: and Z: so I get really confused there. During the second phase of emulator installation do I need to download each of those emulators and point gameex at the correct directories?

Thanks again.

GameEx is fairly close when it comes to Downloading emulators but your best bet is to download them yourself if you want the newest versions.

Correct, there are 2 prompts, Emulator Selection and Emulator Setup. In the first step you're selecting the emulators you want to use with GameEx and in the next you're giving Gx the necessary info to run them. When adding an emulator on the Emulator Selection screen (moving it to the window on the left) you're telling Gx this is an emulator you wish to setup then when you get to the next step Emulator Setup you need to tell Gx where all the pieces are. Gx isn't 'creating paths', the paths already there are Gx's guess at where the files reside, usually this would be paths on the C: drive but since you're seeing G and Z these must be your default drives. You need to change these for each emulator to where the .exe, roms, snapshots, title, box art etc. reside. The art paths are optional but you at least need a working path (where the emulators .exe file is), a rom path (where the games are) and most need a special Command Line to run. You can see common Command Line/Emulator setups under the Pinned topics.
