MAME: What are Right/Right, Left/Left, Left Down etc controls?

Hi,

In MAME what are Right/Right, Left/Left, Left Down etc controls?

I notice in Robotron for example, these are the only controls used but I really don't understand how to configure them with my joystick (8-way) or what they mean.

Would really appreciate a heads up.

I know the left/down right/down etc, Are for diagonal movements.

But when i do left/left it just defaults as none.So not sure what that's for.

These are for dual joystick games, Robotron, Crazy Climber etc. 'left/left' means the left joystick, left direction. Right/right would be the right joystick, right direction.
