I'm having the old sound stutter problem when running game ex through my 28 inch widescreen tv and I remember a good while back somebody solving this super-annoying problem by setting mame32 to 'skip 2 of 10 frames' or something very similar plus some other options, anyone help out? I dont have triplebuffer enabled btw.

Thanks,

Remove -tripplebuffer from the advanced mame settings in the advanced config.

Thanks Brian, didnt think anyone was helping there, I did that already but Im sure theres more to it, on old forum thread mentioned altering frame skipping in mame32 and some other tweaks but I cant remember now, outrunners (us) is a major culprit at the moment.

Any ideas people?

I don't know if this is what you are looking for or not, but this is a list of all command line options for Mame: http://www.mameworld.net/easyemu/mameguide/mamew32setup.htm

use probably should use the option -[no]autoframeskip / -[no]afs

I would assume you would use -afs to skip frames...

I have never had any luck with the sounds stuttering. My son loves spiderman and I have tried everything to stop the stuttering to no avail. Fortunately, I have just gotten used to the sound when he plays it. The worst culprits for me though is Tron and Toobin. I cannot get them to work no matter what I do and the stuttering is SO annoying. Usually when I mess around with the settings, the sound get worse and transforms into a high pitched garbled noise that truly hurts the ears. If anyone has a magic way to fix this, I would be super appreciative. I am using 125u4.

Thank god its not just me then! I'm using the Mame32 Plus! 0120 (from x arcade website) with the dual tankstick, I really think the solution should become a sticky for casual gamers like myself who just want to hook up their tv's easily and quickly.

There's a whole thread on sound issues here:

New Guy...trouble with sound in some games, NEO Geo, Marvel Super Heroes, Narc

Is this a problem with every game or just some? Does it happen when running mame separately? The sound stuttering can be tied to your monitor refresh rate not syncing up with the game, read the Retroblast article below. I have had better luck with waitvsync vs. tripplebuffer for some games.

In that thread I mention this solution:

You may want to try 'waitvsync' instead of triplebuffer. I've had better luck with this for some games. I have custom ini files and adjust for games that experience tearing individually using triplebuffer or waitvsync vs. changing my main Mame ini so I don't mess up sound in other games.

Interesting article on some of these settings, tearing and monitor tweaks here:MAME Monitor Tweaks

Hope this helps.
