You should really use nulldc!

Properly configured, if runs really nice and emulates most of the dc-games. Plus, it can use GDI-Images (real dumps) instead of the crappy cdi-rips.

Just a note, when Topkat refers to cdi-rips he should be more specific. CDI images are nearly as good as GDI dumps. The real ones to avoid are Bin/Cue files. 99.9% of CDI images are 'self-boot", they have a slightly modified DC boot loader that enables the burnt images to boot on a real DC. GDI images are quite hard to track down for no real advantage. Bin/cue images are a different kettle of fish. These do-not (as a rule) hold any selfboot code and as such will not work on a DC emu. These can be converted to a .CDI image using to Bin2Boot convertor (rename it binboot or the extracted executable will confilct in vista), but converting them all is a bit of a pain. If you are downloading (games you own :) ) then look for CDI/GDI files for neatness (one file, easy booting, etc). You can make do with NRG files also.

And to back Topkat up - USE NullDC. Chankast WAS great in it's time, but you can half the compatability and the Chankast graphics plug in is a majr downfall with many images. Lots of graphic coruption and mis-placed textures.

OK, maybe 'crappy' wasn't the best description for those rips, they are ok if you want to run them on the real dc-hardware. But if you want to emulate it, you should go with the real deal.

PS: One more 'plus' for nulldc: recently there has been some progress in emulation of the naomi-platfom (arcade-machine based on dc-hardware). So maybe we will be able to run some nice games in the future witch MAME probably will never emulate at a decent speed.

thanks, that was great!

Got the emulator working but when it runs via GameEx it takes ages to come up with the games list (all .CDI files)

Is there a way to speed this up (sometimes GameEx crahses as well)

Thanks.

nevermind - it was my mistake - turns out I had the rom filter in GameEx showing **.cdi

Delete your Nulldc.cfg.

Run Null dc

This will create a FRESH cfg

Change the above lines

Reconfig your gamepad

I've noticed this too, it will just randomly delete my config file. I began keeping a of my config in the same folder so if the old one gets jacked I've got one ready and don't have to go through the hassle.

That has happened to me a couple of times. The config file disapears to another reality. The Twilight zone. Have you tried making it read only?

I have not tried this, but it may work?

It mainly happens when you error out while loading a game that does not exist..

See my command line does an INI write to load a game... It does not stick upon exit.

The manual edits of autostart emulation do and load default image do tho...

So it you run nulldc outside of gameex you will get an error saing cannot load blah blah blah.

Solution... Do an INI edit of DEFAULT IMAGE and make sure its a game you have. Include the full path.

This will make it less likely to happen

Interesting, I'm going to try that in addition to making it read only as greatflash suggests. I also noticed that when I delete the DEFAULT IMAGE entry in the ini file nulldc replaces it with a typo 'DEFUALT IMAGE'.

i had this problem so i made a batch file that would replace the config file everytime i start the emulator so even if the config got deleted the batch file would make a new one,

very easy to do

nulldc is running pretty smooth now

the only thing is upon start out of gameex there is a window popping up, where the pause command was sent. i have to press a key before nulldc launches the game

how can i get around this?

what you need to do is set up the emulator as u want it and then copy the config file to a file called nulldcbackup.cfg

now u have the backup

now we need to make a batch file use the one i have here in the atatchments

you must have the backup.cfg in the same directory as the original config file and put the batch file in the same folder so they are all in the same folder

no we must edit gameex config

i have added my config also

edit to your needs like the paths to roms

let me know how u get on

if u open the run,bat file in notepad you can see what i have told the computer to do

In case the pause command is still a problem... There is a setting in your emulator to run in debug mode. Set that to false and it won't insert the pause command at the end of the batch file when running your game. Have fun...
