Hi gameex nuts!

Ever since i first downloaded (and subsequently) registered gameex i have been on an eternal mission to turn my front room into a gaming haven (and also piss off my girlfriend although she wasn't complaining when i fired up Pandemonium!)

Anyways since i am using my PC primarily as a gaming machine i am finding it increasingly difficult to justify having a keyboard and mouse on my lap when i could just use my Xbox 360 pad. So i was wondering if there was a way to map the alphabet to one button of my gamepad for text input (similar to how a mobile phone handles text input with one key representing 3 letters) so i can take advantage of the great search feature that Tom has introduced.

I had a go at trying to map keys using Xpadder but as far as i know that only supports cycles and that doesn't really work for me. I was thinking maybe autohotkey could offer the solution although i must admit that i am absolutely useless at scripts, i had a go but just ended up with gibberish.

If there is anyone out there with a knowledge of scripts that could point me in the right direction i would be really grateful as i think this would be a great addition to gameex in general (until microsoft finally lives up to its promises and releases the drivers for the chatpad )

Thanks for reading my ramblings and i hope that there is someone who can take pity on a computer illiterate gameex user!

P.S Maybe an on-screen virtual keyboard would be a good idea for the next release? Just thinking out loud!

I'm not sure what the goal is exactly, but if you are trying to have multiple key presses enter a text letter via joypad button presses, this could be done via AHK. It would require a timer and a set of checks for button presses. If the timer expires or a different key is pressed, it moves on to the next letter. If it hasn't expired, it would increment the previous letter.

I don't know how useful this would be compared to either an on screen keyboard (like Brian posted a link to) or the built-in joystick text entry system for search that Tom already included in GameEx. Just wanted to throw the idea out there.

Does anyone know if the Xbox chatpad now works with Windows XP?

Got tired of waiting for a driver that will never come.

Buy a Di Novo Mini. Works great with my home theater setup. Plus it has a built in mouse.

Nice solution! It's not exactly on the same order as using an XBox controller since those don't cost nearly as much ($29.99 MSRP versus $149.99 MSRP), but a good solution none the less.
