Hi

I've just got a new system and installed Gameex on it.

The problem is that I can't get DVDs / DVD files to play using Gameex.

The system came with Vista Home Basic so I thought it was down to the lack of a DVD decoder but having bought a decoder it hasn't made any difference (although DVDs will now play in Vista through Media Centre etc).

When I try to play a DVD or DVD file the screen goes back for about 4 seconds and then returns to the menu. The Gameex log gives an error message of "HRESULT E_MAIL has been returned from a call to a COM component. ar dvdcore.dvdengineclass.init" etc

I've installed the ffdshow from the Gameex site, have used VMR9 / Use FFDSHOW (both ON / OFF) through the config menu and have used the various MPEG 2 Codecs selectable from the menu (DSCALER / Cyberlink / Microsoft).

I'm now at a bit of a loss so any help would be appreciated

Thanks

You need to provide the complete log file so that someone can interpret the actual error. Btw, do you have a license? Playing DVD's from the HDD is a registered only feature (playing from a DVD is not though).

Totally bizarre...(at least I think so) is that i've been testing the system with no speakers / headphones attached...

if I connect my USB headphones then the DVDs seem to work...If I start Gameex without the headphones connected it doesn't work..

My other PC seems to run DVDs / DVD files within Gameex with no audio out device (in terms of speakers / headphones)...

Could this really be the cause ?

Thanks

Sure, why not?

Maybe it's because GameEx can't initialize the sound card without a device connected, or Vista can't... You have speakers connected and this only happens when you unhook the USB headphones? That is bizarre, and it sounds like an OS conflict to me.

You *do* have a sound card installed, right?

Posted

Interesting... I've never heard of USB headphones. USB speakers (with integrated sound card) yes, but not headphones. I have the same question/comment as Adultery...do you have a sound card installed or is the one in the headphones the only one? Perhaps the codec freaks out when it can't initialize the sound component...

Posted

It really depends on the soundcard hardware. (yes even onboard sound cards) Ive seen strange things expecially when its not a true hardware sound card. ex.. cheaponboard ones that will let you do things like chage which jack the audio came out from. Like normally a sound card has lineout linein and mic(also line in) and the lineout mysterously stopped working and the software could make sound ouptput from the other jack...

Anyways I wouldnt rule it out.

Posted

The system does does an on-board soundcard. However unless an "audio out" is connected to it then game-ex can't play the DVD.

I'd just like to thank everyone for their helpful comments

Uninstall net framework 2.0 and reinstall it. It should fix it. Are you using visual studio?

No. I've tried tricking around with powerdvd as a decoder but with no success.

Mine is working but I am not sure why, here's the things I did differently:

1. I unistalled ffdshow and reinstalled it, when I set it up and it asks what progams to use it with I put "no limit"

2. I switched to the media center theme

3. I stopped using gamex fullscreen and used a window

My dvd setup screen looks like this:

hope this helps

Ok after playing with different settings I realize it all has to do with the dvd decoder, i have 5 different ones but it only works with the cyberlink one which is a 30 day trial version so i guess we'll see what happens after 30 days
