The system does does an on-board soundcard. However unless an "audio out" is connected to it then game-ex can't play the DVD. I'd just like to thank everyone for their helpful comments Blueboy

Totally bizarre...(at least I think so) is that i've been testing the system with no speakers / headphones attached... if I connect my USB headphones then the DVDs seem to work...If I start Gameex without the headphones connected it doesn't work.. My other PC seems to run DVDs / DVD files within Gameex with no audio out device (in terms of speakers / headphones)... Could this really be the cause ? Thanks Blueboy

Hi I've just got a new system and installed Gameex on it. The problem is that I can't get DVDs / DVD files to play using Gameex. The system came with Vista Home Basic so I thought it was down to the lack of a DVD decoder but having bought a decoder it hasn't made any difference (although DVDs will now play in Vista through Media Centre etc). When I try to play a DVD or DVD file the screen goes back for about 4 seconds and then returns to the menu. The Gameex log gives an error message of "HRESULT E_MAIL has been returned from a call to a COM component. ar dvdcore.dvdengineclass.init" etc I've installed the ffdshow from the Gameex site, have used VMR9 / Use FFDSHOW (both ON / OFF) through the config menu and have used the various MPEG 2 Codecs selectable from the menu (DSCALER / Cyberlink / Microsoft). I'm now at a bit of a loss so any help would be appreciated Thanks Blueboy

Hi Haven't tested it in Mame yet (I haven't set up the video previews yet !!). This is just in the "Videos" section...Just purely playing .avi / .mpg etc of music videos etc
-
I now definately going crazy with this one !!!! I installed the lastest Klite codecs without success. I uninstalled the latest Klite codecs and just installed the recommended fdshow from the Gameex download page without success. Where would the Microsoft MPEG 2 codec on my Vista (working) Gameex setup have come from as I can't seem to find that on my other machine ? Blueboy

I have got Gameex running correctly on another PC. The difference between the two is the Working one is using Vista the other is using XP.. Also the working one is using an MPEG codec called "Microsoft MPEG2 Video Decoder". The XP is using "Cyberlink Video/SP Decoder". There isn't an option on the XP machine to use the Microsoft Codec Blueboy

That would make sense...!! Nope I'm not using any 3rd party software to watch the videos (unless unkonw to me !!!). I'm assuming that installing something like videolan etc after Gameex wouldn't change the default media player without me knowing it.. Assuming I'm still using the default player is there anything anyone can recommend..

Hi All I'd appreciate any help as this is a bit of a strange one... I've got a list of videos and the previews play fine.. I select any video and it plays without a problem.. However when I select a 2nd video the screen goes black for a few seconds, there's a beep and then you are returned to the menu. From this point no videos work. If I exit Gameex and start it up again then the 1st video chosen works again but the same problem is repeated.. A bit confused on this one Blueboy

Yes..Ipac support is also disabled

Thanks for the advice but I went into the config and "Enable Keyboard DirectInput" is currently set to "NO" Blueboy

Hi All Now this is driving me mad !!! PimpDaddyStu kindly wrote me a AHK script to exit Karafun when a karaoke song was complete. I thought this was working like a charm until I realised that when I was using my Media Center Remote Control I could no longer exit a song half way through using the back button on the control. I thought that this was due to the fact that it looks like "Map Keys" within gameex emulator options can no longer be used if the command line exe is a batch file. (I'm assuming that a AHK script counts as a batch file !). So once I switched "Map Keys" off I though the next step would be to configure the keyboards shortcuts within Karafun to the Media Center Control Back Button instead. This is a sample of the Keyboard file within Karafun which can be adjusted. It looks like the following (a cut-down version) SwitchFullScreen=ALT+VK_RETURN CancelFullScreen=VK_BACK SwitchTrainingMode=VK_T Now the AHK script exits Karafun once the full-screen is cancelled so I used VK_BACK to replicate the remote control back button being pressed which would then cause the script to exit the karaoke software. However nothing happens when I use the remote control back button. If I press backspace on the keyboard then everything is fine, Karafun exits and focus is returned to Gamex I was unsure of the syntax so also tried VK_BACKSPACE, VK_1 (to emulate the OK button instead) but nothing seems to work. The back button works within Gameex itself so I know it isn't a problem with the control itself. Am I doing something really stupid ? !!! Blueboy

That worked exactly how I wanted it!!! Just like to say thanks a lot for the script and the advice from both of you. Although I new to Gameex I finding it a great piece of software and the community help here is excellent too Thanks Again Blueboy

Hi All I'm trying to get Karafun (karaoke software) to work with Gameex by setting it up as an emulator.. Everything is fine except the fact that when a song finishes focus is not returned to Gameex (until you press the back button etc). I would like Karafun to exit as soon as the song finishes and return to the song list.. Karafun itself does not support any /exit or /quit commands etc from the command line.. I'm not sure it can be done but I just thought I ask just in case !!!! Thanks Blueboy

Ok..Thanks for the clarification I assumed you had to "create snaps" on the video menu to generate the "video previews".. Having said that I've got a couple of files that don't "play" a preview but purely a static snap picture of the video file.. When you select to play them they play fine but Gameex doesn't seem to play them in "preview mode" Hope that clarifies what I meant Blueboy
-
Thanks for that advice Iano That corrected the problem.. I've got a couple of large video files (around 300MB) and the create snap feature only adds an actual "snap shot" picture rather than a video preview. Has anyone had this before and can it be solved ? Blueboy
-
Hi All I've searched the forum and tried a couple of bits of advice but with no luck 1) I've installed the latest K-Lite Codecs 2) I'm trying to create a snap / play video for two video files 3) One has MPEG1 as video / audio codec (using Gspot) and is fine in terms of creating the snap / playing the video 4) The other is MPEG1 Audio but has a video codec of Xvid MPEG4. This one creates no snap and playing the video results in a black screen.. The problematic file is fine when played outside of Gameex but I'm obviously doing something wrong I seem to be going around in circles and would appreciate any advice. Cheers Blueboy
-
Thanks Brian / bkenobi The installation of the CODEC pack seems to have done the trick One last thing.. When the DVD menu comes on there is no "Selection indicator" if that makes sense...So you wouldn't know if you were on play / scene selection etc Is this normal ?
-
Sounds work for jukebox, karaoke, videos etc and normal general gameex effects... DVDs play outside of GameEx.. Is there any specific software etc I need to install
-
Sorry a question from a newbie user I've got everything working pretty quickly except that there is no audio when playing DVD files / or an actual DVD through GameEx Am I doing something stupid wrong ? Thanks for any help Blueboy

Downloaded the free version, registered about two hours afterwards !!!! This is a great piece of software and the donation was a no-brainer for me Good up the good work
