IMPORTANT MESSAGE: Ignore the instructions that came with your loops. For extra coolness for some odd reason and speedier searching through game lists, follow this: I have found it best to only create a startbak.avi in each theme and leave all the the rest, like mamebak, bak.avi, and others to .png formats. You can still have your avi previews for each game but it speeds things up a little bit and is a little more cool for some reason that way.

Video Looping Backgrounds Are Now Available at Megaupload at:

Com Unit Background

Emerald Grid Background

http://www.megaupload.com/?d=0QSM9TS8

The Abyss

http://www.megaupload.com/?d=RH5DSJP0

These loops are royalty free. Make sure to read the instructions attached in each. Just copy and rename the file to each of the .png backgrounds. For example, if you have bak.png, emubak.png, etc... copy the com unit loop to bak.avi, emubak.avi, etc... Don't get rid of the pngs, but you may want to may snapshots of the loops to match the png's because from what I understand is that the new Gameex updates have led to that if the video fails it will resort to the png's.

If you want more, just ask.

You may have to switch off 3d graphics however. Or whatever makes the gameex logo zoom in all the way instead of zoom in then zoom out.

Who's interested in hosting them?

I've gotta couple you might like

Abyss (20mb)

grid (20mb)

com (20mb)

I tried to e-mail it to [email protected] but it said the address was invalid.

How did you make these or where did you get them from? They are cool, I think we should get more of these together. Maybe Tom will host them?

I really like having video backgrounds, I think they look awesome.

Thanks Kenclops. These are cool (keep them coming) ! Hope like HK suggested that Tom will host them. I've followed your instructions but GameEX is still using the pngs . Is there something else i have to enabled (Setup Wizard?) or should GameEX just use the avi backgrounds as a preference over png backgrounds ? I have the avi backgrounds in the same folder (theme) as the png backgrounds and have them named accordingly. Maybe it's the theme i'm using (Default - Media Centre) or perhaps i should have certain lines in my theme.ini ?

Cheers,

ian.

Im downloading them now, I should be able to host them no problem. Its easy now we have the new Portal :)

Any ideas to why i can't get them working folks ? I must be doing something stupid. I've read Kenclop's post a few times, searched the forum, downloaded Lingpanda's tutorial on using avi backgrounds but i'm absolutely stumped (i've spent an hour trying to get these cool backgrounds to work to no avail).

Cheers,

iano.

Make sure you have "Advanced Graphics" turned on.

Now I've really done it ! I get a .net broadcast event window with an exception error happening (index was outside the bounds of the array). From my previous post have i put the avis in the right place ? I'm using the Default - Media Centre theme (i think it's a V3 - not sure) and i'm running 640x480.

Cheers,

Do the videos play in Media Player? I think it must be some kind of Codec issue then.

Yes Tom. They play in WMP11 fine on same machine. Funny thing is my mame lightning intro (before gameex menu appears) and my music videos / mame avi previews play fine (as far as i know - will have to turn off 'Advanced Graphics' to check for sure though).

Thanks,

iano.

:)

EDIT: I'm using the suggested build of ffdshow and no other codecs.

Question is this at all related to the looping video wallpapers for vista...tho done for other products prior to vista.

Anyways another possible resource would be assets produced for Stardock's DeskScapes...which will no doubt have more loops developed as time rolls on.

Hi Nologic. I don't know. I'm using XP Pro SP2. But i have to admit these looped avi backgrounds are a great idea. I have to get this working. They're very impressive and would give your theme a face lift !

I registered with a paid subscription to a forum for $99 bucks. They say on the site that these loops are royalty free and you can use them however you like. No, I didn't make these. It's like Acid Loops. You can use them for your own production or lend them to others. I just came across it and was wowed by the coolness of these videos and was like, Gameex could have cool background effects going on. Tom, is this ok? If it is, I'll upload some more of them.

Just wanted to remind people, with the new gameex site at www.gameex.net, there is the feature available to upload complete themes now.

So if you wanted to do a mix tape, go for it :)

(Theres a temporary issue with the themes page just at the mo due to my host).

Hey Tom! I looked around on the main page, but couldn't find where these videos were hosted. Can you point me in the right direction? Thanks :D
