I've read all the previous posts from people having issues with VPinball and GameEx and I'm pretty sure I have this right.

I've tested Vpinball by itself and with VPlauncher and both are still working fine.

I select the game, the screen goes blank. A mouse pointer appears that appears to be in a large resolution ?640x480?. GameEx returns. VPauto is running in an endless loop on my taskbar.

VPinball is set for fullscreen, 800x600x32. I tried 16 as well. GameEx is set for 800x600.

Is it possible the script is being blocked by NOD32 or an XP setting? Vpinball uses tons of scripts and they all seem to be working fine.

Any ideas? TIA

Is your VPinball.exe in C:\GAMES\VPinball\Tables? The Working Directory is the directory where your emulator .exe is located. My VPinball.exe is located in the directory just up from my Tables directory: C:\GAMES\VPinball

Hope this helps...

Extremely correct Beau.

GameEx installs an incorrect default .exe file name (VPinball-XPFix4.exe ). But before I looked at what the problem might have been I read the many Vpinball problem posts here and for some reason most of them suggest changing the working directory to the tables directory.

Much thanks for the help! :D

I haven't even been able to figure out the right paths. Initially, I set the 'working directory' as stated above, then set the rom path to the roms in vpinmame\roms. Two things: in GE, it gave me the titles of the roms; and all it launced was VP (the editor). No tables ran. What am I missing here?

The rom path you selected are Pinmame game roms, not Visual Pinball Tables.

Set your ROM directory for the \Tables subdirectory in your vpinball folder.

That is where you should be keeping your .VPT files which are handled essentially as if they were the rom files for an emulator.

blib,

Excellent! Glad I could help!

blib: I orginally set it that way. Didn't work. Still doesn't work. I have romup.dat for the command line part. What else am I supposed to have?

kenclops is absolutely correct... disregard my previous post... temporary lapse in emuosity... kenclops' post is the way to get Visual Pinball working.

Worked fine for me. Why would you make the \vpinball\tables directory the working directory when vpinball launches from the \vpinball directory? Seems to me Vpinball should know where all it's subdirectories are.

I'll test it a bit more, but it seems to be working fine for me with the working directory set for \vpinball.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but the above config allows you to launch without the [ROMPath] command on the commandline, but otherwise doesn't do anything momaw27's doesn't. If that is the case then momaw27's is the correct setup. Kenclops is technically setting the working directory incorrectly and then compensating for it on the command line. A very convoluted way of doing things.

No shit, you would think. None of that shit works, here. I'm beginning to think he should be paying me to use this thing with how much trouble it's been. Great interface and ideas, but a fuck of thing to get all running.

Actually I'm thinking the exact opposite. In 6 years of playing with frontends (I started with femame/DOS), I've never seen another Frontend that can compare with the ease of setup that GameEx has.

Out of 30 odd emus I set up, only 3 didn't work off the hop. One had a bad default .exe name, one had a bad switch, and one new one that doesn't detect my joystick, which has nothing to do with GameEx.

In the world of FrontEnd configuration that is unheard of. Hell I havn't even touched a mame setting yet.

Consider yourself extremely lucky. Every headache you've experienced with GameEx would be 10 times worse with any other universal frontend.

I second what blib said! I have found GameEx extremely easy to configure... and for the one or two emulators that haven't worked 'out of the box' I have actually had fun figuring out what I did wrong...

Keep up the great work Tom!

Just as a side note, this forum is very helpful and the people on here are more than willing to help you out. At least that's my experience...

I had an easier time with Atomic, actually, at least for regular Mame. I think the selection procedure for other emu's in GE is easier to get at, but have had no success with them.

momaw27: not to diss anyone, merely mentioning my experience so far: it took a week and a 'bump' to get just one response to my original thread. Until yesterday's 'Daphne paths', I've had to butt in on others' thread. No worries, just curious.
