Attach copies of your gameex.ini and log.txt files when reporting an issue. This helps us to better initiate triage of the problem. Thanks!

What exactly do you want us to see in the upper left?

Also, is this a custom theme?

@HOL2001 we are experiencing a similar issue with PinballX for individuals running Nvidia v591.74 driver. If possible, can you try to revert back to the previous driver and report back?

Posted

The 59x.xx drivers seems to broke some NVENC functions on older software. It seems that NVIDIA has changed the API .No problem at all with 58X.xx.

I have the same problem as HOL2001, no video but sound of the video is playing, so it's related to video decoding.

Tested with a 2070 and a 5070ti, same problem with 59X.XX

No problem with 58X.00

it is most likely windowless vmr 9 that is broken or hopefully not removed. Both AMD and Intel did that. intel fixed it a couple of months back.

There is an automatic workarounnd in GameEx and PinballX but it is obviously not catching it.

I plan to have a look and see how they f**ked it up and see if there is anything i can do.

Nvidia driver v591.86 was released today (01/27/2026) - please update and see if this addresses the issues encountered. Thanks!

Hello,

I have a 3060ti that i updated yesterday the drivers to the last version. I launched my very old installation of GameEX and noticed a Green Bar in the video previews (not in the background video), Then I updated to the last version of gameex to check if it was because of a very old installation and happened this, No video (either background or preview) but sound working

I will try the rollback

Thanks for the info.

Please check this workaround out from @Mike_da_Spike for similar issue impacting PinballX users with the latest Nvidia drivers.

In the instructions where an app needs to be referenced, replace PinballX.exe with GameEx.exe and GameExAE.exe

Even if you do not have a CPU with integrated GPU, just changing the setting if it is set to "Let Windows decide" to your discrete GPU may fix the problem.

Try it and let us know if it fixes the issue you are experiencing. Thanks!

This works but you have to enable intel graphics on your intel processor (same for AMD processor with embedded graphics) or at least have a second GPU that is not NVIDIA

If you only have a NVIDIA card and a processor without embedded graphics, use driver 58x.xx or older version for now

Did you test selecting a discreet  GPU vs. "Let Windows decide" on a rig without integrated GPU?

Yes in my PC i have both a 2070ti & a 5070ti sharing the same driver. I use a passthru to the 2070 that is connected to a 15khz monitor, so the 5070ti is set a prefered GPU. But as both are Nvidia Cards and share the same 59x.xx driver, it doesnt work. With 58x.xx, no problem with this setup, videos are working. It's really related to NVIDIA Cards and 59x.xx driver problem
The option "let windows decide" use the graphic card that your monitor is attached on.

That is why the Mike trick works, because when you set prefered GPU other than Nvidia, videos are rendered with this graphic card, then passthrough to the NvidiaCard for display

OK, gotcha. I did not "pay attention to detail" to realize that, in his workaround, he was selecting the integrated Intel GPU to render, then the passthrough that you noted. So if you have only Nvidia cards GPUs available for rendering, then it is a no-go. Thanks for your clarification!

Just wanted to chime in to report the same issue. All video playback is broken on 591 drivers and working fine on 581 drivers.

I hope you can fix this soon, and thanks again for your hard work!

Edit: I do know the 591 update also broke Parsec for a number of weeks due to the update removing something deprecated.

Did you try changing the Sample Grabber setting under Display Settings within the Setup Wizard?

Ok, turning on Sample Grabber does allow the videos to play again. Thanks, that works.

Looks like a combination of media foundation and dxva 2 will work with Directx 9. Also need to move to directx9ex which is already done whilst keeping compatibility with windows xp.

First time i used ai for code, believe it or not.
