Howdy,

Quick Quistion. When starting PinballX database manager this pops up "It appears that your XML file was modified outside this program. Loss of customized data could have occurred. Do you want to recover from the backup for file [Visual Pinball.xml] ??

Not sure what to select as I dont want to lose anything. I guess I just dont understand what its asking.

Only thing I can think of is I am also usung Game Mamager?

Still unsure of what to do.

Thank you.

Database Manager adds extra fields to your xml file. When you use game manager, all the extra fields with data will be removed, as game manager doesnt know anything about the extra fields.

Thats why you receive that message.

If you replace your xml file with the backup, you can loose entries. For cisual pinball, DBM will show you all the obsoletes and can add new tables automaticly.

I cant say right now what the best option for you to choose,  as I dint know how many entries are changes out dbm. But the fact is, that you loose data with the xml file that is in use.

In the manual on page 4 the following is stated as well :

Quote

Note: As mentioned before, this software is a replacement for Game List Manager that is
provided with Pinballx. As Game List Manager stores less data in the XML it is not
recommended to use Game List manager after the use database manager as some values will
be removed after saving in Game List Manager.

If you didnt use the extra custom fields, you can continue with the xml file that was saved by game manager. Click on save within DBM, will overwrite the old backup file and you will not get message anymore.

If you want to check both files, you can make a copy of the visual pinball.xml and visual pinball.bu file

Both can be imported within Microsoft Excell, and you can compare the as well

Interesting, I had forgotten all about this. I would have just remembered the next time I opened it lol. I'm going to try this right now. Thank you!

Ok, I updated my backup copies of the  pinball.xml and visual pinball.bu before hand.

Removed the Game Manager as I will no longer use it Thank you for that info. Funny I just discovered the DB Manager not that long ago and I really like it, Getting all my loading screens setup. The files looked the same so I just clicked yes. Everything looks good.👍
