virtual.pinball
Hello, good evening I'm trying to get my virtual pinball machine to work. But so far no result unfortunately I have already looked at various things in the settings and the manuals, but so far I have unfortunately not been able to have a working machine. I'm probably overlooking something. I hope someone can help one step in the right direction. Added PinballX.ini Visual Pinball.xml log.txt If you need any additional information, please let me know Thank you in advance for the effort you want to take. scutters
Hi, From your log.txt file it looks like a table launch was attempted, but it only got as far as "Writing ScreenRes.txt". Can you try turning that setting off (Settings.exe -> Display Settings -> Auto position DirectB2S -> set to No), and see if that helps (there were recent changes to that option in PinballX where screenres.txt is written so it might be a factor, setting to No will rule that out) . If not, attach a new log file after attempting a table launch with the setting set to No.
virtual.pinball
unfortunately still the same problem. new log file added. thank you again ! log.txt
scutters
Can't see anything obviously wrong to cause the launch problem. What specific table were you selecting to launch (and under what system name - Visual Pinball or VPX?), please also confirm that the table file does exist under C:\Visual Pinball\Tables
Mike_da_Spike
In your log files, I don't see an attempt to launch a table. If you launch a table and ot isn't in the log, thats normally because the table file cannot be found or the exe file is not in the location Can you lauch a table via command prompt ? For example : C:\Visual Pinball\vpinballx.exe /play -"C:\Visual Pinball\Tables\24 (Stern 2009)" You can also download PinballX Databasemanager from the download section. Run this and thewill check if the tables files are actually having the correct names for your visual pinball system.
virtual.pinball
Thank you again Maybe it's because I put may table in an underlying folder I did use databasemanager
Mike_da_Spike
So your table path should be set in settings.exe to C:\Visual Pinball\Tables\vpx. If you use DBM, the tables are properly markeed as obsolete as it expects a different folder.
virtual.pinball
okay, you put every table in the same folder. And not a separate folder for each table under the main tables folder. Then I have to move around in the folders. One more question, Now a table is loaded, however the visual pinball.exe remains in the foreground. Can this be moved to the background with a setting? Thank you so much again

And not a separate folder for each table under the main tables folder. Then I have to move around in the folders. That is the 'standard' way. It could be possible to configure PinballX to use your current folder structure with a launch parameter like; /play -"[TABLEPATH]\VPX\[TABLEFILEWOEXT]\[TABLEFILE]" (note - i've not tested it!) But, i strongly advise that you just keep all table files in the tables folder without sub folders with only one copy of the b2sbackglassserver files. Things should work as expected then. 2 hours ago, virtual.pinball said: One more question, Now a table is loaded, however the visual pinball.exe remains in the foreground. Can this be moved to the background with a setting? Not sure, but i think you have foreground and background mixed up?, you'd want visual pinball in the foreground in order to play. If it is launching behind PinballX make sure in visual pinball settings you have force exclusive fullscreen mode set (under preferences -> video/graphics options). If you are referring to the visual pinball editor window appearing in the foreground during the table load you can add -minimized to the launch parameters, e.g. -minimized /play -"[TABLEPATH]\[TABLEFILE]"
Mike_da_Spike
Not sure what you exactly mean with "visual pinball.exe remains in the foreground." Not sure, but thought that vpx 10.7.2 will do the minimized when the play option is used. It will also close vpinballx.exe when closing/ending a table. EDIT :just checked. Only the registry is changed to -Extminimized, so best to to do what @scutters mentioned. Add -minimized (or extminimized) to the parameters. I used Extminimized as -minimized didn't minimize all for me (1) : Check also the FullScreen Exclusive Hack (2). This option is related to the settings within VPX : 12 hours ago, virtual.pinball said: Thank you again Maybe it's because I put may table in an underlying folder Sorry, I didn't see the sub directory for the table in the screenshot yesterday (my screen on my telephone is not that big , or is it just that I need to wear my glasses ... ?) There is no need to have all the backglass files in each sub folder. The b2sBackglassserver can be in any directory somewhere, but make sure that Screenres.txt is in the folder where you have your .Directb2s File For me, I've set this up, and the P-toc, VPX and VP( folders contains the screenres.txt files. The Plugins folder contains links to PUP and DOF (but if you don't use them, you can skip them) But the b2s server files can also be in another folder (but this was VP's default path, so I left it like this) 7 hours ago, scutters said: /play -"[TABLEPATH]\VPX\[TABLEFILEWOEXT]\[TABLEFILE]" (note - i've not tested it!) This should only work correctly, if the filename matches the folder name as well. I see you got for table 24 2 versions, so that means 2 different folders that should match the filename of the table. To my opinion that will be a lot of extra work And DBM doesn't handle sub folders for this . So no automatic detection if files are new or obsolete, no drag and drop new files and existing files, no inventory of the VP info etc. I hope this all make sense ...
virtual.pinball
Now I'm getting close to what it should be. I used the -Extminimized setting and my visual Pinball.exe is gone. Then suddenly I got my backglass in the background of the Playfield. Cause? Perhaps the reason that Folder Visual pinball, Folder Tables and Folder VPX contained a B2B backglass server? Now I have the B2Bbackglass server running in the main folder (visual pinball). Now some fiddling with dmd and the settings with the buttons. But that will be fine. Thank you for your help again guys !!!
scutters
1 hour ago, virtual.pinball said: Then suddenly I got my backglass in the background of the Playfield. Cause? Not sure. Is it the main backglass image, or the dmd image part of the backglass file (if it has a dmd image - not all do). But sounds like you need need to check your visual pinball screenres.txt file (made easier if you use b2s screen res identifier app available on vpuniverse and vpforums i think). You probably have several screenres.txt files dotted around with the b2sbackglassserver program, so time for a file clean up and then reregister the b2sbackglassserver in the it's final location. You also have autopositionb2s=true within your pinballx.ini. that means that pinballx will create your screenres.txt on table launch. If your screens are not setup correctly in pinballx, it will show on the wrong screen. Set x and y correct in settings.exe (or directly in ini file) to correct this, or set option to false and it will use your screenres.txt that you define yourself [BackGlass] monitor=0 x=0 y=0 width=1280 height=1024 AutoPositionB2S=True UseB2S=True
