MrGrynch
Now that I have my bezel situation sorted, I wanted to record my game field videos. I used the PinballX recorder and the video looks fine, but there's no sound. Is this normal? How can I record the playfield with sound? Thanks! scutters
That's normal. Sound files go in the \media\databasename\table audio and launch audio folders, named as the table name. Might be a feature request to optionally record and create the table audio files at the same time as recording the videos?
MrGrynch
That would be ok if PinballX actually played the audio. So I need to mux the two files?

I just checked... there aren't any audio files anywhere associated with the video I recorded.

Audio isn't recorded (yet) as Scutters mentioned. If you want table audio, you need to record it via another way and add it to the table audio folder. I think most people uses just the Videos or images and add there own sound
MrGrynch
@Mike_da_SpikeAh! I misunderstood what @scutterswas saying. The videos I'm making are for attract mode for MAME. The ones I have currently are just MP4s with integrated sound, but the horizontal videos are rotated the wrong way. So, I need to record new ones. Sounds like I just need to use a different software to capture the videos
Mike_da_Spike
PinballX uses indeed "wrongly" rotated videos. if you got videos created and showing incorrectly, just rotate them 180 degrees (via FFMpeg) or any other program

I did not know you could do that. I'll probably record my own anyway just because there will be a lot of blank space on the rotated video. I have a nice bezel on mine to fill those voids. Turns out Windows 10 has a built in screen recorder that captures sound and works within Pinball X. I just tested it. In any case, I think I can call this one resolved. Thanks for the help!

So you can setup W10 to record videos that are triggered by PinballX ? or you are able to use the videos within PBX ? (I use my Geforce driver to capture 4k content)

(I use my Geforce driver to capture 4k content) If I ever get a decent card, I will probably go that route as well, but Windows 10, as part of its XBox heritage includes a "game recorder" which isn''t very discriminating. It can't record everything, but it seems to work just fine for PinballX. You hit WIN+G to bring it up. From there you can tweak settings, etc. I set up a more convenient hotkey to start/stop recording. Then I tried it on a game. Recorded the full screen game with sound no problem. Its not integrated with PinballX. It works standalone

In the keyboard inputs section of the settings, it won't let me enter combination keys (CTRL+R) for example. The default hotkey for recording is "v"

MrGrynch
@Mike_da_SpikeOk, so that worked... sorta. I was able to use PinballX to start recording using the Microsoft screen capture. When I play the video back by itself it looks perfect! It's recorded in the exact orientation of the screen at the time. However, once I add it to PinballX, PinballX rotates it so that its upside down! FML
MrGrynch
UPDATE: I set my main display screen to portrait mode and set all the PinballX and MAME rotations off and tried again. This time everything worked as expected. I am nervous though. I've heard that you shouldn't set your main monitor to portrait mode for virtual pinball. I'm going to open a new thread to talk about dealing with screen orientation between MAME/Pinball. This way the conversation doesn't get lost for someone looking for the same info @Mike_da_Spikethanks for your help!
